Festivities begin: Governor offers ‘Bangaru Bonam' in Delhi
Hyderabad: Bonalu celebrations commenced on a grand note in the country's capital, New Delhi, with Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma offering 'Bangaru Bonam' to the goddesses. The Lal Darwaja Simhavahini Temple Committee has been diligently organising the Bonalu festival at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma attended as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The Governor then placed a Golden Bonam on his head and reverently offered it to the goddess amidst energetic dance performances by the Potharajus and the rhythmic beat of drums. Following the offering, special prayers were performed for the goddess, and a photo exhibition was subsequently inaugurated. The Governor was felicitated by the Chairman of the Temple Committee, B Maruti Yadav. The programme saw the attendance of Telangana Bhavan Resident Commissioner Dr Shashank Goyal, Temple Committee Convener J Aravind Kumar Goud, General Secretary Posani Satish Mudiraj, former committee chairmen K Venkatesh, K Vishnu Goud, and A Manik Prabhu Goud, along with representatives A Chandra Kumar, A Vinod Kumar, Seshu Narayana, and other dignitaries.

Sangareddy (Telangana) [India], July 1 (ANI): Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has expressed grief over the tragic fire accident that occurred at the Pashamylaram industrial area in Sangareddy district that killed 12 people. The Governor paid condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The Governor spoke to the Labour, Employment Training and Factories (LETF) Principal Secretary Kishore, and directed him to extend all possible assistance and the best of medical help to the victims. Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu on Monday expressed grief over the fire accident at the Sigachi Pharma chemical factory. 'Deeply saddened by the tragic fire accident at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana, which claimed several lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,' Murmu said in a post on X. Prior to that, the Director General of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, Y Nagi Reddy, stated that rescue officials are currently unsure of the number of people trapped under the debris following the blast at the Sigachi Pharma Company in Sangareddy. 'As per industrial experts, the incident happened during the air handling/drying of Microcrystalline cellulose. We are currently unsure of the number of people under the debris,' he added. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the explosion and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. In a post on X, the Prime Minister's Office wrote, 'Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi.' (ANI)

TG gears up for Yoga Day celebrations today
The Telangana Government would be celebrating International Yoga Day in a grand manner at GMC Balayogi Stadium at Gachibowli on Saturday. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha, and other dignitaries would be participating. According to the officials, about 5,000 people will be performing Yoga marking International Yoga Day at 6 am to 9 am on Saturday. The government has decided to organize International Yoga Day celebrations in a grand manner. Officials of the AYUSH and Health departments have completed the arrangements for this program to be organized with about 5,000 people. The yoga session will start at 6 am. The Governor, CM, ministers and celebrities will perform yoga in this session. With the aim of bringing yoga closer to every household in the state, the government appointed 628 yoga teachers last year. This year, a notification was issued for the appointment of more than 250 yoga teachers. Yoga classes were being conducted every day from 7 am to 9 am in Ayushman health centers (sub-centers) across the state. AYUSH department officials said that the newly appointed yoga teachers have taught yoga to 5 lakh new people. Special yoga classes were being conducted for pregnant women and patients suffering from chronic diseases. Plans were being made to make yoga part of everyone's life in the future.

Thousands gather at Hyderabad's parks and open grounds to mark International Yoga Day
On Saturday (June 21, 2025) morning, the city of Hyderabad woke to a calm yet spirited scene as thousands of residents made their way to parks and open grounds, with yoga mats in hand and dressed in comfortable attire, to celebrate the International Day of Yoga. From young children to senior citizens, people across all age groups gathered as early as 5 a.m. in neighbourhood parks to perform yoga. The State-level celebration, jointly organised by the AYUSH and Health Departments, was held at the Gachibowli Stadium and drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 5,000 participants. The event served as a focal point for the day's observances, with government officials, students, and others participating in large numbers. Among those in attendance were Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, Sports Authority chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, and Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. All of them joined the participants in performing yoga asanas. Homage to Maharishi Patanjali Speaking at the gathering, the Health Minister described yoga as 'one of India's greatest gifts to the world.' He paid homage to Maharishi Patanjali, whose teachings on Ashtanga Yoga form the basis of contemporary yoga practice. 'Yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise,' he said. 'It is a holistic science that brings balance to the body, mind, and spirit.' The Minister stressed the role of yoga in addressing the modern epidemic of lifestyle-related diseases. 'In today's fast-paced world, ailments like hypertension, diabetes, cancer, and kidney disorders have become alarmingly common. Even the wealthiest individuals are struggling to attain peace of mind. Yoga offers a natural and effective solution to these problems,' he said. The minister also outlined the State government's ongoing efforts to institutionalise and expand the practice of yoga across the State. 'Several initiatives have been launched in the past year, including the appointment of 630 yoga instructors, with recruitment underway for an additional 264. Daily yoga sessions are now being conducted at health sub-centres, and more than five lakh individuals have been trained in yoga during the past year alone. Efforts are also being made to integrate yoga into the education system and higher studies. The government has initiated yoga instruction in schools and colleges, and recently introduced a Postgraduate course in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences,' he added.

He recalled that the national song "Vande Mataram", which inspired millions during the freedom struggle, and the national anthem "Jana Gana Mana"—composed by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore—both originated from Bengal. Quoting a famous remark, he said, 'What Bengal thinks today, the nation thinks tomorrow.' Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Telangana, Justice Sujoy Paul, in his address, paid tribute to the legacy of Justice Ashutosh Mukherjee, an eminent jurist and former Vice Chancellor. He also noted that the first Indian judge of the High Court was a Bengali, underlining Bengal's historic contributions to India's judicial and academic spheres. Justice Ms Moushumi Bhattacharjee, Judge, High Court of Telangana; Sabyasachi Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary to Government; and M. Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Governor, also spoke on the occasion.
