Ryan Reynolds says he is looking forward to 'many more years' with Wrexham AFC
Actor Ryan Reynolds has revealed he is looking forward to 'many more' years at Wrexham AFC after the football club won promotion to the Championship.
Deadpool star Reynolds and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham for £2 million in February 2021 and have led the Welsh club out of the fifth division, known as the National League, and into the second tier of English football.
The pair's time with the club has been documented in the FX series Welcome To Wrexham, which has run for three series and earned eight Emmys, with a fourth season set to air next month as fans "enjoy the ride". Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community now
Writing on X, Reynolds said: 'This club is the sum of its supporters. Before we showed up they'd saved it multiple times. It's a temple as much as a football pitch. @Wrexham_AFC has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.'

Wrexham beat Charlton 3-0 on Saturday to became the first team in English professional football to achieve three successive promotions. Reynolds' post was accompanied by a clip of him attending a concert by Ed Sheeran, a minority owner and sponsor of Ipswich Town.
At the gig, Sheeran told him: 'Ryan, I think Wrexham are going to get promoted and we're going to see each other next season.' Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship on Saturday, after winning just four matches in the top flight this season.
Reynolds crossed his fingers after Sheeran's comments in the video, which charted Wrexham's success, accompanied by US band Green Day's song Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life). He added: 'It's hard to avoid immediately starting work on next season - but important to take the moment in.
"Looking back and looking forward feels really good right now. I think I speak for @RMcElhenney when I say, thank you for the greatest four years and here's to many more.'
The football club has seen recent royal visits from the Prince of Wales and the King and Queen, and actors including Wolverine star Hugh Jackman, who is a supporter of Norwich City.
McElhenney and Reynolds were honoured in 2022 with the Dragon Award from the Welsh Government, the Football Association of Wales and S4C for promoting the country and its language.

PA understands the announcements are set to begin with the words 'after review', before going on to provide explanation and ending with the final outcome. The two-way discussion between referees and VARs will still not be available, as the game's lawmaking body, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) does not permit this. However, the on-field announcements of final decisions are a further step towards transparency, a key goal of Howard Webb, the chief refereeing officer at Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL). The news comes after the total of VAR errors for last season was down to 18, from 31 the season before. Errors are defined as matters where, in the view of the independent Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel, VARs overturned a correct on-field decision or failed to intervene to overturn an incorrect on-field decision. There were 35 such errors in the 2022-23 season. The average VAR delay per match last season was 39 seconds, down from 64 in the 2023-24 season. That figure could drop further with a full season of semi-automated offside technology in use. The Premier League has been approached for comment.

Chelsea's transfer stance on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been revealed after 'odds were slashed' on a deal in the summer window. Isak has told Newcastle he wants to leave the club before the start of the new Premier League season with Liverpool linked to a huge £150m move. Rumours have emerged that Chelsea are also in the race to sign the 25-year-old Sweden international, who was previously Arsenal's No.1 target. However, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are not actively working on a deal to sign Isak and have no interest in entering talks with Newcastle. The Blues are believed to be content with their forward line, which includes £60m new signing Joao Pedro and current striker Nicolas Jackson. 'Meanwhile, Man United at now 18/1 to tempt him to Old Trafford, having been 40/1 prior to Thursday's shock announcement.' Like Chelsea, Manchester United are not in the race to sign Isak from Newcastle this summer. Isak has conjured up 62 goals and 11 assists for Newcastle in 109 games across all competitions to date since he joined them from Real Sociedad. Liverpool are thought to be the only English club in the race for Isak, who has also attracted interest from teams in the Saudi Pro League. Newcastle have told Liverpool that Isak is not for sale – but it's believed that a British record offer of around £150m 'could see a move accelerate in the coming weeks'. Celtic are acting like amateur hour and Brendan Rodgers' transfer talk is sounding like a cry for help
The Hoops have some serious work to do with the squad and the clock is ticking to the big kick-off and Champions League qualifier It would have been daft to go overboard after wins against Sporting Lisbon and Newcastle United. Likewise, it will be silly to lost the plot after a pasting from Ajax. Pre-season games are impossible to judge properly. You never know what stage teams are at in their training, what their objectives are from these encounters or whether or not the players are even too fussed. Take Newcastle last weekend. They have a wage bill of north of £200m but got whipped by the Scottish champions. But dig deeper and it was obvious they'd been flogged for a week in Austria and it caught up with them. A fair few would have been desperate to get back to their own beds as well. Celtic looked that way in Como the other night. It looked like a team that had spent pretty much three weeks on the road and needed a hug from the Mrs and a lie in. But that also shouldn't mask some of the obvious issues around the squad right now. Brendan Rodgers has steadily ramped up his rhetoric around transfers – so much so that his latest comments sounded more like a cry for help. Forget about this debate over 'club signings' or whether they are ones for the future. He's made it crystal clear he needs first team ready signings – and pronto. Quite how Celtic are in this position – yet again – is slightly mind boggling. We get told the market is tough, there is competition, teams wanting to maximise their assists and so on. But why don't Celtic have some of these big tent pole captures lined up windows in advance? Benjamin Nygren is a good example of that working. Yet where are the others? Celtic know they are operating in a tricky environment. They are trying to sign Champions League ready players on Championship wages. That's why they can't get involved in the usual merry-go-round. They need to think outside the box and get ahead of the game. Sure, it's easier said than done, but they don't half make life hard for themselves. To be a week from the Premiership kick-off with just Daizen Maeda, James Forrest and Yang as the only wide men at the club just seems ridiculous. To have just Adam Idah up top, with projects Johnny Kenny and Callum Osmand as back ups and Shin Yamada with no work permit just comes across as amateur hour. Rodgers has had the patience of a saint but there are signs it's starting to wear thin. No one is saying Celtic don't have a good squad or their model doesn't work. They have a team that can cope at least domestically for now. There's every chance they will splurge £20m in the next three weeks and all will be well and good. But putting fans and the manager through the ringer all just seems like a stress they could have done without.
