Wrexham's Rob McElhenney changes name to 'Rob Mac'
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have put the North Wales club on the world stage since taking over in 2021. Back-to-back-to-back promotions coupled with the hugely-successful Welcome to Wrexham documentary means that everyone knows the Wrexham story by now. But, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Rob has this week announced that he is changing his name. Tired of his surname being mispronounced in many ways, the star is now going to be known as 'Rob Mac' from now on. In a video posted to X explaining the decision, he said: "Yes, I'm shortening my name to Rob Mac. Mainly a stage name, but I digress." I said what I said. He added: "The amount of time I have wasted trying to get people to either say or spell my name correctly is literally days of my life." YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE... Rob continued; "More importantly, it means thousands of you have had minutes of your life stolen by me because of my last name. "Times have changed and most people already call me Rob Mac anyway. My family knows me and loves me regardless of how many syllables I have, and that's the only thing that I really care about. "There are so many things going on in the world and this is a silly thing to waste your time with. "Honestly, call me whatever you want. Marion, Jerome, Archibald, Eric, Maurice, Stephanie, Frances, Marvin, Gordon or Sam."

Rob McElhenney defends 'kinda douchey' name change
Rob McElhenney has admitted his name change is "kinda douchey". The 48-year-old actor was recently reported to be legally changing his moniker to Rob Mac after years of fans mispronouncing his surname, and now he's defended the decision. In a tongue in cheek video on X, he said: "Okay, I'm going to dedicate exactly one minute to this. Start the clock. "Yes, I'm shortening my name to Rob Mac. Mostly a stage name, but I digress. Is it kinda douchey? Sure. "But the amount of time that I have wasted trying to get people to either say or spell my name correctly is literally days of my life — trust me, I added it up. "More importantly, it means thousands of you have had minutes of your life stolen by me because of my last name." Clips of people messing up his name played in the background, while Rob joked that his wife Kaitlin Olson, who he married in 2008, has also suffered. The It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor continued: "Still, it's a family name. My grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and I all share it, and I love them and I want to stay connected. "There's heritage. Except, it's not even really our f****** name! Not only have many generations changed the spelling, the current one was just given to my ancestor by a government official who decided that this was now the spelling." He then showed an old photo of his great-great-grandmother, with a handwritten caption revealing her name was Bridget McIllhenny. He said: "[But] times have changed and most people call me Rob Mac anyways. "My family knows me and loves me regardless of how many syllables I have, and that's the only thing I really care about. "There are so many things going on in the world, and this is a silly one to continue to waste your time with." Late last week, a representative for the Wrexham AFC co-owner - who leads the UK football club with Ryan Reynolds - confirmed he has filed to legally change his name. From now on, he will be credited as Rob Mac in professional projects. He first mentioned the idea of the name change to Variety in May, and at the time his wife and Always Sunny co-star Kaitlin Olson admitted she and their children weren't overjoyed by the change. She jokingly told Variety: "The kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name. And so do I, legally!"

Reynolds' post was accompanied by a clip of him attending a concert by Ed Sheeran, a minority owner and sponsor of Ipswich Town. At the gig, Sheeran told him: 'Ryan, I think Wrexham are going to get promoted and we're going to see each other next season.' Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship on Saturday, after winning just four matches in the top flight this season. Reynolds crossed his fingers after Sheeran's comments in the video, which charted Wrexham's success, accompanied by US band Green Day's song Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life). He added: 'It's hard to avoid immediately starting work on next season - but important to take the moment in. "Looking back and looking forward feels really good right now. I think I speak for @RMcElhenney when I say, thank you for the greatest four years and here's to many more.' The football club has seen recent royal visits from the Prince of Wales and the King and Queen, and actors including Wolverine star Hugh Jackman, who is a supporter of Norwich City. McElhenney and Reynolds were honoured in 2022 with the Dragon Award from the Welsh Government, the Football Association of Wales and S4C for promoting the country and its language.

Reynolds accompanied his wife to Thursday's event, where she was honored as one of the magazine's most influential people of the year. In her speech, Lively alluded to her legal war with former co-star Justin Baldoni while revealing her mother's past assault by a 'work acquaintance.' She was blasted on social media for sharing her mother's trauma, a decision that was slammed as an 'obvious PR move' amid her own ongoing feud with Baldoni. However Lively, 37, and Reynolds, 48, appeared completely unaffected by the opprobrium in a snap she posted to her Insta Stories the following day. At the TIME100 gala, Megyn ramped up her attack against the Gossip Girl star, accusing her of 'bastardiz[ing] Me Too allegations' in her quest to sue her It Ends With Us director and costar Justin for sexual harassment, which he has denied. 'It's a ridiculous joke. She shouldn't be here,' she said of Blake. 'I think [Blake has] launched a fake Me Too allegation against [Justin], and she's lived to regret doing it, because virtually every allegation she has made has fallen apart,' Megyn added. A trial is scheduled for March 2026.
