Lincolnshire council names 76 sites as it plans to sell assets
A former school site and a youth hostel are among dozens of assets earmarked for disposal by Lincolnshire County Council.A total of 76 sites, including offices, traveller sites and council-owned farmland, have either been earmarked for disposal or review as part of a revenue savings plan for the properties that could go include Sleaford County Offices, Lincoln Crown House and a former RAF mortuary hangar in Woodhall sale of the sites could generate £16m for the authority over the next three years, with predicted annual savings of £1.6m in running costs, a meeting heard. The county council has published a list of the properties included in the Liam Kelly, executive member for growth at the Reform-led authority, told a meeting of the growth committee on Tuesday that he wanted to "maximise revenue for council taxpayers", as well as social authority would look into selling sites to community groups and trusts "where appropriate".However, Kelly added: "I know examples in the past where a property was sold and didn't get the best value."It was then rented back to the council and the owner recovered costs within two years from the taxpayer. That will not be repeated again." 'Wrong hands' The meeting also heard concerns about a lack of scrutiny, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. An amendment by opposition councillors, stating any potential sales would be brought back to the committee for debate, was Tom Dyer (Conservative) said: "This isn't more red tape, it's about democratic accountability."He told the meeting potential buyers needed to be "carefully vetted" to ensure "buildings don't fall into the wrong hands"."We've had previous interest from county lines gangs [drug networks] in the past."We don't want the Home Office to buy them for temporary asylum-seeker accommodation, or end up with land covered with solar panels either."A total of 81 properties were sold under the previous Conservative administration over the last four years, raising a total of £19m. Reform launches 'war' on net zero projects in Lincolnshire
Reporter Frazer Maude interviews Andrea Jenkyns and Richard Tice. Reform leaders in Lincolnshire have launched a "war" on the government's net-zero policies and renewable energy projects in the county. At a joint press conference, Boston and Skegness MP Richard Tice, Greater Lincolnshire Mayor Andrea Jenkyns and Lincolnshire County Council leader Sean Matthews unveiled a campaign to oppose the "devastation caused by net-stupid-zero". Mr Tice said: "It's also a war against high energy prices, and it's a war against the blight of our countryside, our beloved countryside here in Lincolnshire and beyond." The campaign, branded Lincolnshire Opposes Renewable Eyesores (LORE), opposes major developments of solar panels, battery storage facilities and pylons. Among the projects criticised by Reform is a scheme to introduce 140km of new overhead power lines from Grimsby and Walpole. The plans would bring electricity generated offshore on wind farms into the main grid. 'The number of solar factories is scandalous' Speaking at Boston United Football Club Cllr Matthews it was "nothing more than government vandalism of our beautiful countryside". He added: "There is no good reason for these cables on the shore, and so I say to National Grid, keep them in the sea and keep them outside of Lincolnshire." There are currently eight "nationally significant" proposals for solar farms across Lincolnshire covering an area of about 30 square miles. The plans are part of Labour's strategy for the UK to become carbon neutral by 2050. The government says the plans will create 138,000 jobs across Yorkshire and the Humber and the East Midlands. Cllr Matthews added: "The size and number of the solar factories planned across Lincolnshire is scandalous. If they all went ahead, they would cover tens of thousands of acres of prime food-producing land." Labour's Energy Minister Michael Shanks MP said: 'Nigel Farage's war on clean energy is a war on nearly 138,000 jobs across the region. Working people from Boston to Hull would lose jobs and opportunities if Reform was ever allowed to impose its anti-jobs, anti-growth ideology on the country. 'Reform UK's energy surrender plan would leave bills high for families and businesses, keeping the UK stuck on the rollercoaster of fossil fuel markets. Farage only offers anger but no answers – and it would hammer family finances. 'Labour was elected to deliver real change for communities, and we are securing the good jobs that can boost people's livelihoods and rebuild our country's industrial backbone through our Plan for Change. We won't let Farage and his ideologues stand in the way of these jobs across Yorkshire and the East Midlands.'

Tice announces ‘renewables war' with new campaign opposing ‘eyesores'
The pressure group, which will oppose renewable energy projects, will initially launch in Lincolnshire, with the support of Greater Lincolnshire mayor Dame Andrea Jenkyns and Lincolnshire County Council leader Sean Matthews, but Mr Tice said he hopes he can drive the campaign nationwide. Mr Tice, who is MP for Boston and Skegness, told the press conference: 'We are basically going on a renewables war against Mr Miliband and his merry band of fellows, the eco-zealots. 'Lincolnshire opposes renewable eyesores because it's an absolute outrage, what the madness of net stupid zero is doing to our county, as well as doing to our country. 'We have to stop this madness, and that's what we at Reform are doing. 'We are going to battle it. We are going to fight, we're going to campaign. 'We can win this eyesore war. 'It's also a war against the energy crisis, and it's a war against the blight of our countryside, our beloved countryside, here in Lincolnshire and beyond. 'We know that the reason we have the most expensive electricity in this country, almost in the first world, is because of the cost of renewables, and yet we keep being told by Miliband that the bills are going to come down, and yet he never tells us when.' The campaign, which is also planned to launch in Suffolk and Norfolk, is a response to the number of proposed pylons, solar farms, and wind farms. The campaign group's website will map proposals of renewable energy projects. Mr Tice wrote to energy companies urging them not to invest in the latest round of green energy contracts, known as Allocation Round 7 (AR7), a move which was criticised by energy minister Michael Shanks. The Reform deputy leader said: 'We plan to win the next general election, and we will do everything within our power to seek to stop AR7 rounds being developed, or if they do develop them, then they should take nothing for granted. We will look at all options to stop this madness.' He said: 'This is the beginning. We're leading the way here in Lincolnshire. We will help drive it. If you want change, if you want to stop this stuff, then put us in positions of leadership and power.'
