Pak Woman With Expired Visa Found Living In Odisha, Asked To Leave
The woman, living in Bhubaneswar, has been asked to leave by tomorrow. The action comes in the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. The Union Home Ministry has asked states to identify and deport all Pakistan nationals in their jurisdiction.
On Wednesday, India said it had cancelled all visas for Pak nationals as part of a five-step diplomatic counter-offensive following the terror attack.
According to reports, the woman had applied to the Commissionerate Police for an exit permit to leave India and go to Pakistan. But her application was rejected. Since then she has reportedly been living in the state.
"There was a Government of India order in which visas to Pakistani nationals were revoked. On that basis, the state government had communicated that order to all district-level officials and ordered necessary action. After we received that order and that communication, we verified records. Upon verification of records, we found that a Pakistani National in urban police district under the Bhubaneswar Police's jurisdiction was living here. We have served her a Leave India notice yesterday. After speaking to her we found out that she had applied for an exit permit and based on that application an exit permit has been issued to the Pakistani national. In the Leave India notice it has been said that, as per the order, she should leave India by 27-04-2025," Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagmohan Meena told reporters.
"We found that she had a visa last year and she entered based on that," the police officer added.
Relations between the two countries have plunged to their lowest level in years, with India accusing Pakistan of supporting "cross-border terrorism" after gunmen carried out the worst attack on civilians in decades.
Islamabad denies involvement, and calls attempts to link Pakistan to the attack at Pahalgam "frivolous".
A day after the attack, New Delhi suspended a water-sharing treaty, announced the closure of the main land border crossing with Pakistan, downgraded diplomatic ties and withdrew visas for Pakistanis.
Islamabad in response ordered the expulsion of Indian diplomats and military advisers, cancelled visas for Indian nationals -- with the exception of Sikh pilgrims -- and closed the main border crossing from its side.
Pakistan also warned that any attempt by India to stop water supplies from the Indus River would be an "act of war".

Anti-sacrilege bill will deter future desecration of scriptures: Punjab CM
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said the Anti-sacrilege Bill will ensure that no such heinous crime takes place in the future by making provision of the sternest punishment against culprits. Mann stated this while participating in a debate on the 'Punjab Prevention of Offences Against Holy Scripture(s) Bill 2025' on the concluding day of the Special Session of the Punjab Assembly here. The House on Tuesday decided to refer the Bill, which was introduced on Monday, to a Select Committee of the Assembly for seeking views of all stakeholders. Mann said the Guru Granth Sahib is the living Guru, who is highly revered by one and all across the globe. He said the 'Guru Granth Sahib' is a lighthouse of peace and tranquility for the entire mankind, and the Punjab government is "fully alive" to the deep emotional hurt caused by the incidents of sacrilege against the holy 'granths' in the past. He said it is unfortunate that some forces had even gone to an extent of committing the most heinous sin against mankind through desecration of the 'Guru Granth Sahib', a holy book revered by the Sikh community. Mann said the 'Guru Granth Sahib' is an eternal Guru for mankind and no one could ever tolerate the dastardly act of sacrilege. Likewise, he said the 'Bhagavad Gita', 'Quran', 'Bible' and other 'granths' are also respected by humanity for showing a way of life to them. The guilty shall also be liable to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh, which may extend up to Rs 10 lakh. Those attempting to commit the offence may be sentenced to three to five years and shall also be liable to pay a fine which may extend up to Rs 3 lakh, as per the Bill. Individuals found abetting the crime will be punished in accordance with the offence committed. Under the Bill, offence means any sacrilege, damage, destruction, defacing, disfiguring, de-colouring, de-filling, decomposing, burning, breaking or tearing of any holy scripture or part thereof.

Voter revision can't stop Assam's demographic invasion: Himanta Biswa Sarma
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said voter list revision cannot stop the demographic invasion which several areas of the state are facing. Sarma said Assam requires an indigenous solution for the problem as the cut-off date for determination of citizenship is 1951 in the rest of the country while in Assam it is 1971. The cut-off date for detecting foreigners in the state was set as March 24, 1971 in accordance with the Assam Accord , which was signed after a six-year anti-foreigners' movement led by AASU. Sarma told reporters in Guwahati that over the last four years, 160 sq km of land has been cleared through eviction and nearly 50,000 people have been asked to leave. He said the names of several of them are in the list of voters of two districts and the deputy commissions are striking off the dual names after the eviction drive. "Assam's situation is different," said Sarma. "Whoever was ever evicted, the deputy commissioner must have deleted the names from the voter list. So, voter revision cannot stop demographic invasion, as in Assam the citizenship starts from 1971, not 1951, like in the rest of the country. So, technically, you may not say that everybody is not an Indian."
