One of the UK's top female padel players says the game needs to become "more of a spectator sport" in order for it to keep growing.
British number three Tia Norton is among eight women who have been selected in the Great Britain squad for the Euro Padel Cup in Madrid next month.

The 21-year-old, from Leamington Spa, said: "Bigger tournaments are gradually being played in the UK, but if we can get a premier padel event, which is the highest ranked tournament, that will be a really big moment for the sport here".
"At the end of the day you need money in the sport to make it bigger, so I think that would be a big step."
Norton is also aware of the limited training facilities in the Midlands and the game's rising cost.
"To install padel courts, get planning permission, to get everything around building padel centres is very very expensive, I think the courts themselves are a minimum of £15,000," she said.

She added the Lawn Tennis Association had "taken right steps" to help implement more facilities, but there needed to be "a better way to get padel courts into deprived areas and make it accessible to everyone".
Norton said the sport was "very very unknown" in the UK when she started to play in 2015 [Getty Images]
Norton said the sport had been "very very unknown" when she started to play in 2015.
"I had to travel to Spain a lot to train, which was of course a big expense, and I was going almost once a month on weekends and then driving to London from Leamington to train as well.
"I was fortunate to have my parents fund my Padel when I started out.
"Nowadays it is becoming more accessible and the sport is on the rise, but it is still expensive."

Wimbledon Order of Play: Day 5 schedule with Emma Raducanu, Carlos Alcaraz, and Aryna Sabalenka in action

On the board: Emma Raducanu headlines the fifth day's play (Getty Images) Day five is almost upon us at Wimbledon, with plenty of mouth-watering encounters to watch as round three gets underway. British women's No1 Emma Raducanu is in action, where she will play top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the highlight of the day on Centre Court. Advertisement Sabalenka is searching for a maiden grass-court title, and the draw has opened up for the Belarusian thanks to the premature exits of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, the No2 and No3 seeds, respectively. Raducanu's compatriot Sonay Kartal is looking to continue her marvellous run at this summer's Championships when she faces the unseeded French player Diane Parry first on Court No1, before Cameron Norrie takes to the court to battle Mattia Bellucci, who gave Jack Draper a scare at the French Open. Two-time defending men's champion Carlos Alcaraz continues his quest for a third title as he takes on the big-hitting German Jan-Lennard Struff. On the other show courts, Australian Open champion Madison Keys plays Laura Siegemund on Court No2, and Jacob Fearnley's conqueror Joao Fonseca is in action on Court No3 against Nicolas Jarry, who beat eighth seed Holger Rune in round one. David Benavidez set to defend WBC light heavyweight title against Anthony Yarde in November

David Benavidez will be facing a British opponent in his next fight — but not the one who was expected. Benavidez is scheduled to make the first defense of his WBC light heavyweight title against Anthony Yarde on a Riyadh Season card in November, Turki Alalshikh confirmed Thursday. Advertisement "The Monster" was in advanced negotiations for a fight with WBO interim champion Callum Smith, but those talks ultimately failed, and so a deal with Yarde was finalized instead. While Yarde is in the top 10 at 175 pounds, a fight between Benavidez and Smith would've seen the consensus Nos. 3 and 4 fighters in the division pitted against each other. Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) twice held the WBC super middleweight title between 2017-20, but lost it outside the ring on both occasions. In 2023, Benavidez proved himself to be a formidable challenger for undisputed champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez by beating Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade. But with Alvarez uninterested in facing Benavidez, the latter was forced to move up to light heavyweight. After picking up the WBC interim title against Oleksandr Gvozdyk in June 2024, Benavidez had to get off the floor to defeat the WBA (Regular) champion David Morrell in a thriller in February. Now that Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol are expected to fight for a third time, Benavidez has to once again wait his turn. With Benavidez's next fight scheduled for a Riyadh Season show, which hosted the two Beterbiev-Bivol fights, the chances of seeing the winner of the trilogy face Benavidez have increased substantially. Advertisement Yarde (27-3, 24 KOs) is a former two-time light heavyweight title challenger. The Brit was stopped in both championship attempts: by Sergey Kovalev in 2019 and by Beterbiev in 2023. Yarde was last in action when he edged Lyndon Arthur to lead their rivalry, 2-1. Alalshikh announced Sunday that Brian Norman Jr. would defend his WBO welterweight title against two-division world champion Devin Haney on a Riyadh Season card in November. Both Benavidez vs. Yarde and Haney vs. Norman are expected to take place on the same card.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The 2025 season continues to go from strength to strength for Charlie Woods, who just completed another strong performance in the junior division. It's also excellent news that his legendary father, Tiger Woods, was following him throughout the event. Woods competed between June 30 and July 2 in the Junior North & South Amateur. This is the 47th edition of the prestigious tournament hosted by Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, competing both boys and girls. Charlie finished with a 54-hole score of 1-over that earned him a tie for 12th in a field that began with 94 players. DeFelice/Getty Images The younger Woods improved throughout the tournament, starting with a 2-over 72 opening round on Pinehurst No. 2. Charlie carded four birdies and six bogeys on this day. A day later, it was time to play Pinehurst No. 8, and Charlie fared much better, with his only major complication being a double bogey on the 10th hole. He added three birdies and a bogey to his card for an even-par 72 for the round. The final round was also played on Pinehurst No. 8. Charlie started poorly, bogeying his first three holes and adding another bogey on the 8th and a birdie on the 6th to make the turn at 3-over for the day and five over for the week. However, he managed to find his best golf of the tournament on the back nine, where he carded five birdies and a bogey, finishing the round at 1-under and bringing his tournament score to 1-over. (Via: @sscottpga) — NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) July 3, 2025 However, the mere fact that the 15-time major champion is following his son around a golf tournament can undoubtedly be interpreted as a good sign. As you may recall, Tiger also followed Charlie around during the Florida Amateur Championship just a few weeks ago. These have been the clearest signs of Tiger Woods' recovery since injuring his Achilles tendon last March. The Junior North & South Amateur is not sanctioned by the American Junior Golf Association, so Charlie won't be able to improve his current ranking (14th). However, the result at Pinehurst definitely continues his streak of strong results, led by his victory at the TaylorMade Junior Invitational last May.
