Politically frustrated Congress resorting to nonsensical rhetoric: Assam BJP

India Gazette05-07-2025
Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 5 (ANI): The Indian National Congress has become 'disoriented' and 'frustrated' by the 'strong' and 'determined' steps taken by the BJP-led government under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the NDA alliance to establish a 'peaceful and prosperous' Assam, a press release said.
In a press release issued from the headquarters of the BJP State Committee, it has been stated that the government has taken firm measures to evict illegal encroachers from Satra institutions such as Bardowa, Barpeta, Behali, Elengi, which carry the heritage of Assam's national life, and to preserve and develop them into enriched institutions.
'The government has also worked to evict illegal encroachers from Assam's scenic national parks and forests such as Kaziranga, Orang, and Lumding, to conserve these areas and develop them as tourist destinations. Similarly, measures have been taken to evict illegal occupants from government lands, tribal belts and blocks, and VGR (Village Grazing Reserve) lands to preserve them for future generations. By creating special reservation provisions for Assam's indigenous communities, the government has provided merit-based appointments to over one lakh youth, opening new horizons for the younger generation of Assam. Further recruitment initiatives are already underway. Through the delimitation process, the political future of Assam has been secured,' Assam State BJP said in the press release.
It also stated that, the government has brought transformative development to the state's infrastructure-- improving connectivity, healthcare, safe drinking water, housing construction, electrification, etc.--with the goal of establishing Assam as a 'powerful' state within the nation.
'The government has granted land rights to the indigenous people of Assam and provided land allotment (myadi patta) to over 10 lakh people. Medical colleges have been established in nearly every district of Assam, making it a leading state in the country in the field of healthcare. Furthermore, by curbing child marriage, Assam has achieved the lowest maternal and infant mortality rate in India. This wave of all-round development has drawn people from every section of society toward the Bharatiya Janata Party, and as a result, the Congress has now resorted to nonsensical rhetoric. Disoriented and politically frustrated, the Congress party--driven by the mirage of power--now wishes to disrupt the peaceful and prosperous environment in Assam and create chaos,' the release stated.
The State BJP also said that the Congress party is now relentlessly criticising and personally attacking the BJP and its governance, 'both rightly and wrongly'.
BJP workers hold records of the assets of top Congress leaders like Prithani, Jain, Barua, and others. BJP also has detailed accounts of which Congress leaders own which hotels, businesses, resorts, and their locations, the release added.
'The public memory of Assam still vividly holds the account books of corruption statistics associated with Congress leaders,' said the press release.
The State BJP warned that if the details of the corruption and 'unchecked' wealth of the current Congress leadership are revealed, it will lead to their 'complete political collapse', it said. (ANI)

Yemen 'cancels' Nimisha Priya's death sentence: All you need to know

After years in prison and a last-minute intervention, Nimisha Priya's execution originally scheduled for July 16, has been cancelled in Yemen The death sentence of Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala convicted of murder in Yemen, has been overturned and 'completely cancelled.' The announcement came on July 28 from the office of Indian Grand Mufti Kanhapuram AP Abubakar Musliyar. The decision followed a high-level meeting in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. Her execution had previously been suspended after diplomatic efforts by the Indian government and an appeal by the Grand Mufti. The cancellation is now official, according to a report by ANI. Nimisha's execution, originally scheduled for July 16, was temporarily halted just a day prior after Musliyar urged Yemeni authorities to reconsider. Execution delayed after diplomatic efforts The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had been actively engaged in efforts to save Nimisha. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that a lawyer had been appointed to assist her family and that the government had been exploring options for clemency under Sharia law. Nimisha was convicted in the killing of her business partner, Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi, in 2017. Musliyar reportedly engaged in extensive talks with Yemeni religious authorities, calling for the release of the 37-year-old nurse. His last-minute intervention, supported by a prominent Yemeni Sufi scholar, is believed to have been instrumental in stopping her execution. Who is Nimisha Priya? Nimisha Priya, 37, is a trained nurse from Kerala who worked in private hospitals across Yemen for several years. In 2014, her husband and young daughter returned to India due to financial hardship. That same year, Yemen's civil war began, and the country suspended the issue of new visas, making it impossible for her family to return. Setting up a clinic in Sanaa In 2015, Nimisha established a clinic in Sanaa with the assistance of Talal Abdo Mahdi, a Yemeni citizen. Since Yemeni law prohibits foreign nationals from owning clinics, Mahdi was made a legal partner. However, during a visit to Kerala, Mahdi allegedly stole a wedding photograph of Nimisha and used it to falsely claim they were married. According to her mother's statement, Mahdi then began harassing her. Allegations of abuse and fraud Mahdi reportedly forged clinic ownership documents and took control of Nimisha's finances. He is also accused of seizing her passport, drugging her, threatening her with a firearm, and physically abusing her over a prolonged period. When she approached local police, Nimisha was instead arrested and jailed for six days. Upon her release, the abuse reportedly escalated. In July 2017, Nimisha sought help from a jail warden. Following his advice, she attempted to sedate Mahdi in order to retrieve her passport and escape the country. The first attempt failed, but during the second, Mahdi — reportedly a drug user — died from an overdose. Conviction and sentencing In June 2018, Nimisha was convicted of Mahdi's murder and sentenced to death. Her appeal was rejected in 2023. Her execution was scheduled for July 2025 before India's diplomatic and religious intervention led to its postponement — and now, its complete cancellation.

Shabbir Ali said that the previous government did not provide a single ration card in its ten-year rule. Respecting the aspirations of the people, he reminded them that his government is providing ration cards on a large scale. He clarified that this is a continuous process. If there are still eligible people left, they should apply and those who have not received the cards need not worry. He assured that ration cards will be granted to every eligible family. As part of this, he explained, new cards have been given to 3,174 families in the North and South mandals of Nizamabad Urban constituency and the names of 16,687 members have been newly registered. He said that distribution of fine rice is not available anywhere else in the country, including BJP-ruled states, and is being implemented only in Telangana. He said that 3,500 houses have been sanctioned in each constituency to realise the dream of owning a house for the poor, and Rs 5 lakh is being provided to each beneficiary. He advised that there is no need to repay these funds and that not a single rupee should be given to anyone for sanctioning Indiramma houses. Shabbir Ali warned that if anyone demands money from the beneficiaries, they should complain to him directly and strict action would be taken against those responsible. Additional Collector Ankit said that the process of distribution of ration cards is going on in a completely transparent manner.
