The all-in approach has worked (so far) for the Chicago Cubs.
President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer, in his contract year, went out and traded for a possible rental, Kyle Tucker.

While it remains a risky move, Tucker, especially with Pete Crow-Armstrong's breakout, has guided the Cubs to a 51-35 record, and they hold a 3-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for the National League Central lead.
However, Justin Steele is not coming back this season, and there are serious questions about whether or not this rotation can hold up in October. Chicago has positioned itself to buy at the trade deadline, and we should expect Hoyer to continue to push his chips.
One potential option is Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic. Here is what MLB Insider Jon Morosi had to say, via 670 The Score:

Morosi also talked about how the Royals (40-47) are trending toward deadline sellers and that the Cubs' second-year pitcher Ben Brown could be a return asset.

Onto Bubic, a 27-year-old lefty who has steadily improved during his six-year Kansas City tenure. Bubic sports a 6-6 record with a 2.25 ERA, a 2.66 FIP, and 101 strikeouts to 29 walks over 16 starts and 96 innings this season.
He is under salary arbitration control for 2026 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2027. Brown (6.13 ERA, 4.10 FIP) has struggled after an encouraging 3.58 ERA, 3.11 FIP rookie debut, and while he is still a fascinating prospect, he is more than worthy of sacrifice for someone of Bubic's caliber.

Brown alone likely does not land Bubic, as the Royals should have numerous suitors at the end of the month. But, as Morosi also pointed out, Chicago is too big a market and too invested in 2025 to not try for Bubic.

Knicks reserve guard could see increased role next season

New York Knicks guard Miles McBride could be the biggest beneficiary of Mike Brown being hired as the team's new head coach. Per SNY's Ian Begley, McBride could see an increased role compared to his role under Tom Thibodeau. 'We don't know how Knicks coach Mike Brown will deploy his rotation. But it's logical to think that McBride will play significant minutes with Clarkson and Yabusele,' Begley said. In the past, it would appear at times as though McBride wasn't being utilized properly in the rotation. Now with Brown, it's possible that McBride could see an increased role in the offense. McBride has the ability to play in several different types of lineups for the Knicks thanks to his ability to space the floor and defend at a high level. McBride himself spoke with Begley about sharing the second unit with new acquisitions Jordan Clarkson, and Guerschon Yabusele. 'Obviously (Clarkson's) a vet in this league. He's done great things,' McBride said, per Begley. 'Obviously, he can fill up the stat sheet and really score the ball at a high level. And obviously adding Geurschon as well. I think everybody's seen what he did in the Olympics and carrying that momentum into (last season), so we're really excited about him.' 'I feel like we're going to play fast, we're going to be using a lot of different guys,' he added. 'If you saw the Finals, they (Oklahoma City and Indiana) had a lot of depth on both teams, and I feel like we're all NBA guys. So if you're on the team, I feel like you're able to help out.' McBride averaged a career-best 9.5 points per game last season off the bench, and shot 37 percent from three-point range. Next year could be a breakout season for him should he get an increased role.

New co-main event announced for UFC 319 event

The UFC 319 fight card has a new co-main event, as rising contender Aaron Pico will square off with unbeaten Lerone Murphy. Pico was expected to meet Movar Evloev this past weekend when the UFC went over to Abu Dhabi, but Evloev withdrew from the fight. Instead of trying to keep Pico on that card, officials moved him to the August 16 event in Chicago, Illinois from the United Center. MORE: Reinier de Ridder with a big win over former UFC champion Robert Whittaker A former Bellator fighter, Pico signed with the UFC after Bellator was acquired by the PFL. He owns a record of 13-4 as a pro, which includes a 9-1 run. The lone loss during that stretch was when he suffered a shoulder injury vs. Jeremy Kennedy. Murphy is 16-0-1, with the draw coming back in 2019 in his UFC debut vs. Zubaira Tukhugov. Since, he is 8-0, including an April decision over Josh Emmett to follow up a win over Dan Ige. UFC 319 features Dricus du Plessis defending his middleweight title against Khamzat Chimaev along with previously announced fights between Geoff Neal and Carlos Prates, Jared Cannonier and Michael Page, and Tim Elliott and Kai Asakura.
