This rare Ford Sierra Cosworth takes the brand's European family sedan to another level.
This one is in Texas and unlike many imported Cossie Fords, it has the steering wheel on the correct (left) side.
The name Cosworth graces the engine bay of some of the world's greatest exotics. The Bugatti Tourbillion. The Aston Martin Valkyrie. The Gordon Murray–designed, V-12–powered T.50. Each is breathtakingly fast, each highly tempting, each unfortunately also staggeringly expensive. Besides, you need a four-door for the kids. But what if you could get that sedan with the heartbeat of a hypercar?This 1989 Ford Sierra sedan and it offers just that: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from the keepers of the flame at Cosworth, and it's up for sale on Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos).
Cosworth has a long history stretching back to the golden age of Formula 1. And it also have a history of imbuing European Fords with extra moxie. The Escort Cosworth and the Sierra Cosworth are hero cars across the Atlantic. Cosworth is based in the UK, as are many "Cossie" Ford fans, which means cars that find their way to the U.S. are often right-hand-drive. Happily, this example originally hails from Italy, so the wheel and pedal are on the left, where you're used to finding them.
Even better, perhaps, is that this Sierra is the sedan rather than the coupe. The four-door variant is hard to find and quite subtle, capable of surprising fellow drivers. "Is that a Merkur?" "Why the heck is that Tempo so dang fast?"The answer lies under that anonymous white hood, the red-headed, YB-Series 2.0-liter inline-four. Fitted with factory turbocharging, this engine was rated at 204 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque, but of course racers and tuners could unlock much more power by pouring on the boost. Happily, this one hasn't been fiddled with, and still puts down stock power through a five-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. There's the equivalent of 55K miles on the odometer.The cabin is all business in light gray, the well-bolstered Recaro seats and thick-rimmed three-spoke wheel the only hints towards sportiness. The stereo's non-operational, but a YB has a really unique yowl to it, so just roll your windows down and give the throttle pedal some welly.
Leave the influencer crowd to pose in front of their seven- or eight-figure machinery that will rarely see anything more challenging than a London high street. Instead, fly under the radar with this white sedan riding on its discreet 15-inch alloys, knowing you're using one of the best fast Fords just the way Cosworth intended.

This 2001 Type R has ultra-low miles, is in impeccable condition, and is one of not many to be built for the U.S. market. The combination of these factors has created a heated bidding war that is now deep into six figures. Around 25 years later, the current bid for this iconic compact is sitting at $120,000. You can buy two brand-new Integra Type S models with a 355-horsepower V6 and still have plenty left over for that amount. There's still something irreplaceable about this 2001 model's four rounded headlights, sporty two-door shape, and cheeky rear wing, though, especially in this eye-catching Phoenix Yellow paint. The prominent Type R badging makes it instantly recognizable. Under the hood is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine rated for 195 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. The buzzy VTEC engine is paired to a sweet five-speed manual gearbox, and there's also a limited-slip differential. At the time, this was considered one of the best-handling front-wheel-drive cars available anywhere, a legacy that Honda continues to live up to with today's Civic Type R. This particular example is #1,086 of just 1,173 examples built for the United States, and it's hard to imagine that any of the others are in better shape. A clean CarFax report and title add peace of mind, as does the fact that the battery and hydraulic fluids were replaced in 2022. The engine oil was last changed back in 2020, so that's something the lucky new owner will want to look at, despite the low mileage. BMW never built an M3 wagon for the North American market. Here's one anyway. Virtually OEM inside and out, it's the hot Munich longroof we all wished for. This car is CARB certified and fully approved by California's Bureau of Automotive Repair. BMW's decision to bring the wagon version of the current M5 to this side of the Atlantic probably doesn't make a lot of sense to the company's accountants, but it's great for the fans. Uber-fast sedans are great, but there's something cooler about a wagon variant. It's a shame Bimmer didn't do the same with the M3. Bring a Trailer But wait, Bavarian sports wagon fans! Here's a 2015 BMW 328i xDrive wagon, fully converted to F80-series M3 specification, and it's up for sale on Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos). It's got the twin-turbo inline-six, the wider track with fenders and bumper covers, and best of all, a six-speed manual transmission so you can row your own gears while you laminate a labradoodle to the back window. Bring a Trailer Conversions can be hit or miss sometimes, but this one looks like it was factory-built in Munich. The exterior and mechanical upgrades are all OEM, and the interior of the M3 has been largely swapped over as well. It's got CARB approval, certification by the sometimes fussy California Bureau of Automotive Repair, and a modest 63K miles on the odometer. Bring a Trailer The M3 donor car was a Competition package model, which means the S55 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six makes a hearty 444 horsepower. Formerly equipped with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive, it's now rear-wheel drive with a limited-slip differential, and fitted with M3 subframes and chassis bracing. Bring a Trailer The car rides on M3 Competition-spec 20-inch wheels, fitted with Michelin tires, and the suspension and brakes are also M3 grade. The only aftermarket addition appears to be a set of KW height-adjustable springs. A 328i wagon of this generation is a pretty likable car all by itself, and as BMW no longer sends the touring version of the 3-series to North America, they're holding their value well. This car gets you something unique, all the firepower of a proper M3, but with extra carrying capacity and cool factor.
