Who are the best Nets through 1 game of the Las Vegas Summer League?

USA Today2 days ago
The Brooklyn Nets have played just one game in the Las Vegas Summer League heading into Saturday's slate of games as the event is entering its third day. Brooklyn did not get the result that it wanted in Thursday's debut as they lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 90-81, but the good news is that one player on the team has stood out from the pack.
According to HoopsHype, center Drew Timme has not only been the best player on the Nets, but he's been one of the better players in Las Vegas. Timme, who put up 22 points and nine rebounds in Thursday's loss to the Thunder, ranks as the 32nd-best player in Las Vegas after Friday's slate of games wrapped up, showing how effective he was for Brooklyn.
For comparison, Timme is ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks' Chris Livingston, who is averaging 18.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists through one game and is just behind the San Antonio Spurs' Dexter Dennis, who is averaging 14.0 points through one game. When it comes to the Nets, Timme ranks far ahead of the second-best player on the team, guard Nolan Traore.
Given how Traore played on Thursday, it is somewhat surprising to see him ranked as the 119th-best player in Las Vegas thus far. Traore put up 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists against the Thunder and he shot 3-for-5 from the field against what is a solid defense, but Traore also had three turnovers and three fouls in 26 minutes of action so it's possible that those miscues factored into the ranking.
The next three Nets on the list in terms of overall ranking were: forward Tosan Evbuomwan, guard Egor Demin, and guard Tyson Etienne. What stood out from this portion of the list was that Demin was rated as being slightly better than Etienne as Demin had a rough start to the game before recovering in the second half. Brooklyn's players will get another chance to show what they got in Sunday's game against Tre Johnson and the Washington Wizards.

Gabe Madsen helps lead Warriors to first win in Las Vegas Summer League vs. Jazz

After an ugly start to the Las Vegas Summer League, the Golden State Warriors returned to the court on Sunday evening with a chance at a bounce-back performance. To open the Summer League in the desert, the Warriors got blown out by the Portland Trail Blazers, 106-73 on Friday. Fast forward to Sunday, it was a much-needed different story for the Warriors against the Utah Jazz. Led by Gabe Madsen, the Warriors secured their first win of the Summer League with a 103-93 victory over the Utah Jazz. Madsen, the undrafted free agent guard out of Utah, paced the Warriors with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Madsen, a career 36% shooter from deep at the college level, showed off his shooting with six made triples on 10 attempts against the Jazz. Alongside Madsen, both Golden State rookies, Alex Toohey and Will Richard, notched double-figure scoring performances against the Jazz. Toohey tallied 15 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field while Richard added 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field with six boards. Chris Manon and Jaden Shackleford each added double-figure scoring numbers as the Warriors improved to 1-1 in the Las Vegas Summer League. While the Jazz were without both Walter Clayton Jr. and Ace Bailey, Cody Williams and Kyle Filipowski combined for 43 points against the Warriors. The Warriors will return to the court on Tuesday against the Memphis Grizzlies in Las Vegas. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!

Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren officially sign contract extensions with OKC Thunder

No such thing as lazy Sunday afternoons for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The NBA champion announced they have officially signed Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren to contract extensions. The franchise cornerstones put ink to paper. Williams reportedly signed a five-year, $287 million extension. Holmgren reportedly signed a five-year, $250 million extension. Both deals will keep them in OKC through the 2030-31 season. It's been quite the offseason for the Thunder. Fresh off capturing the Larry O'Brien trophy, the celebrations continued into July. They had the chance to lock down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and Holmgren to long-term deals this summer. Boom. Boom. Boom. All three are done. Gilgeous-Alexander wasted little time signing a four-year, $285 million supermax extension that'll keep him in OKC through the 2030-31 season. It was the biggest contract he could've signed for this summer. The Thunder gladly backed up the Brink's trucks for the MVP winner. Now, the Thunder have their star trio under contract for the rest of the decade. That's nearly a billion dollars tied up in three players. But hey, it's champagne problems any other team would gladly deal with. They've already won one NBA championship with this group and could be in line for more. Wizards' No. 2 overall pick dunked on by former Gonzaga star Drew Timme

Sparks are flying in the NBA Summer League. On Sunday night, former Gonzaga star Drew Timme made his mark with 30 points for the Brooklyn Nets. One highlight over a notable Wizards player put an exclamation mark on a fantastic individual performance. Advertisement Midway through the second quarter, Timme executed his signature pick-and-roll action and got the ball driving down the lane. The Wizards' second overall pick, Alex Sarr, made the mistake of meeting Timme at the rim. The result was a rim-rocking highlight play. It wasn't a pretty moment for Sarr, but he had a highlight night of his own. The big man set a Summer League record with eight blocks. He also chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Wizards won 102-96. They also got 21 points from this year's sixth overall pick Tre Johnson. It's a tough individual moment but a great sign overall for Washington. Sarr's rookie season showed a need for growth if the Wizards want to get their return on investment. The future could be bright at Capital One Arena. Advertisement For Timme, his 30 points didn't lead to a win but they're not in vain. The former Gonzaga star is battling to stay in the league and explosive plays like his poster slam over Sarr showcase his talent. The real winner of the game is the Summer League, which is in need of new storylines after the announcement that Cooper Flagg will be shut down for the summer. It leaves space for a player like Sarr or Timme to take the spotlight like they did on Sunday night.
