The Danish capital, Copenhagen, has dethroned Vienna to become the most liveable city in the world. The city earned perfect scores in infrastructure, education, and stability, pushing it to the top of the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2025. Vienna Drops to Second Over Security Fears
2 / 16
Vienna, which held the top spot for three consecutive years, slipped to second place due to a drop in its stability score triggered by recent terror threats. Despite this, it still leads in healthcare and maintains excellent scores in other categories. Asia-Pacific Makes Gains, But Only One Makes Top 10
3 / 16
Only one Asian city made it into the top 10 this year. While cities in Japan and Australia performed well, they couldn't crack the highest ranks. The Asia-Pacific region did see overall gains in education and infrastructure. North America's Bright Spot: Vancouver
4 / 16
Vancouver remains North America's only entry in the top 10, thanks to its consistent high scores in healthcare, infrastructure, and environment. However, the US continues to struggle with urban crime and political instability affecting its city rankings. Western Europe Dominates the Top 10
5 / 16
Six of the top 10 most liveable cities in 2025 are from Western Europe. Cities like Zurich, Geneva, and Frankfurt continue to impress with their public transport, education systems, and quality of life. Middle East Cities Slowly Climb
6 / 16
Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia is among the biggest risers this year. Thanks to the Vision 2030 reforms, the city improved its scores in education and healthcare. However, instability in the broader region continues to hold others back. The World's Top 10 Most Liveable Cities in 2025:

10 / 16
India continues to face challenges in the Global Liveability Index 2025, with none of its major cities making it to the top half of the rankings. While cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai showed modest improvements in infrastructure and education, rising pollution levels, traffic congestion, and political instability have impacted their overall scores.
Additionally, growing concerns over healthcare accessibility and urban safety have kept Indian cities from climbing higher. The stability score, in particular, took a hit due to socio-political tensions and security concerns. Though there's visible progress in tech hubs and metro expansions, India still has a long way to go before it competes with global leaders in liveability. Instability and Conflict Drag Rankings Down
11 / 16
Political tensions, threats of conflict, and civil unrest caused a global 0.2-point drop in stability scores. Cities like Tehran and those in Taiwan and parts of India saw noticeable ranking drops due to these concerns. Healthcare and Education Saw Global Improvement
12 / 16
Despite geopolitical issues, global averages in healthcare and education have improved slightly. Better facilities and post-COVID policy investments played a role in this rise, especially in the Middle East and South Asia. Top 10 Most Liveable Cities (2025):

This new Ahmedabad restaurant puts a fresh spin on clean eating

Ahmedabad's F&B scene is flourishing, and is driven by a young, affluent population, a growing appetite for new culinary experiences, and the presence of varied restaurants, cafes, and pop-up experiences. In the midst of this bustling setup stands Union, a contemporary vegetarian restaurant that aims to shake things up by spotlighting clean eating. Founded by Harshvardhan Sheth and Ishit Patel, the kitchen is helmed by the renowned chef-restaurateur couple Viraf Patel and Prakriti Lama Patel. 'The dining scene in Ahmedabad is evolving rapidly. The amount of exposure and travelling means people are not stuck to traditional cuisine," Prakriti says. 'Our market research revealed a massive shift; people here are now much more open to new tastes and varied flavours." Ahmedabad is still finding its footing in the realm of clean and conscious eating, but there's a growing curiosity for food that is lighter, more ingredient-driven, and transparent in its sourcing. The two founders chose to partner with Viraf and Prakriti on account of past experiences and 'memorable meals at restaurants like Olive, Smoke House Deli and The Salt House". Born and raised in Kolkata, Sheth has an MBA in finance and is working towards completing his chartered accountancy course. Patel, who has studied engineering and worked in advertising, has always felt most at home in a kitchen. 'The demand for pure vegetarian cuisine remains consistently high in the city, supported by a strong local customer base and a growing number of tourists," Sheth says. The menu draws inspiration from European classics with hints of simple Mediterranean and Asian flavours — all reimagined through a local lens. 'I trained and apprenticed in Switzerland, and my cuisine is steeped in traditional European-style techniques. So the dishes differ from traditional Indian offerings, which are typically more focused on the process that creates the sauce (dal or gravy)," says Viraf. In European cooking, the protein is always the star and is complemented by the starch and the veggies, he informs. Prakriti adds they decided to use the European concept and focus on the vegetables as the star. 'We use various processes and textures to let them shine. For example, in the carrots with tamarind yogurt, oven-roasting brings out the sweetness of the carrots, the charring adds another taste profile, and the sour yogurt balances the sweetness," says Viraf. The idea was to allow people to taste the vegetables in a different manner, as they are meant to be, 'not masked in spices and curry". Viraf and Prakriti have worked across India and internationally. They opened Across, a Mumbai restaurant that focuses on the flavours of the Himalayas last year, and Oito, which celebrates the harvest of the sea and the land, in Goa recently. 'We've been consciously incorporating seasonal produce, everything from vibrant heirloom tomatoes and peak-season pumpkin to fresh, local fruits. We are now working with local sitara chillies to make a Middle Eastern-style chilli paste with oil and garlic that we will use on our chilli cheese toast," he says. The menu is also designed considering how people eat today, a preference for smaller plates that allows for variety and sharing: truffle and mushroom arancini, spice-dusted corn ribs, jalapeno, cheddar and lemongrass cutlets, crispy spring rolls, and water chestnut wontons are a few. There's a lot to choose from. A corn and kaffir lime soup that blends classic French techniques with bold Asian flavours, a roasted beetroot carpaccio featuring a creamy goat milk feta alongside vibrant orange segments, sweet potato noodle salad, and jalapeño cheddar and lemongrass cutlets with Thai spices. A congee risotto marries the traditional risotto and comforting congee, infused with spicy, crunchy, and fresh elements. For dessert, a crispy stroopwafel comes with a custard cream base, and is topped with seasonal fruit, which is currently mango. Special attention is also given to heirloom rice varieties of the region, reinforcing their philosophy of celebrating local bounty. The chef offers his take on what would be the ideal meal at Union — 'I'd start with the chickpea hummus served with our stone-baked homemade pita —simple, fresh, and full of flavour. I'd move on to the crispy stroopwafel paired with arugula and smoked scamorza. For mains, the Union Lasagne with lentil bolognese is a hearty, comforting choice. And to finish, an indulgent chocolate and tofu mousse." The restaurant is currently working on collaborations with local artists and designers to celebrate the ethos of the space. They will also host chef's tables bringing in guest chefs. Prakriti says Ahmedabad's vegetarian culture offered an opportunity to reimagine what vegetarian dining could be — bold, creative, and inspiring.'Our aim was to create food that feels both comforting and surprising — familiar ingredients presented in unexpected ways." Top CEOs Did These 7 Things As Kids And Your Child Can Too, Number 5 Will Shock You!

photoDetails english 2923397 Updated:Jun 28, 2025, 09:35 AM IST Habits of Successful Children 1 / 11 Success doesn't begin in college or adulthood, it starts in childhood, and more specifically, every morning. The way a child starts their day plays a major role in shaping their personality, confidence, mindset, and discipline. While adults are often told to 'win the morning to win the day,' the same holds true for children, perhaps even more crucially. If instilled early, certain habits can become the foundation for a resilient, happy, and driven individual. Here are 7 essential morning habits that every child should adopt to build a path toward lifelong success. Wake Up Early: Build Discipline and Gain a Head Start 2 / 11 Most successful people, from CEOs to athletes, start their day before others. Teaching kids to wake up early helps them develop time management skills, avoid morning chaos, and enjoy peaceful, undistracted time. Why it matters: Early risers are more likely to be proactive, focused, and less stressed. Kids who wake up early tend to perform better in school and have healthier routines. Pro Tip for Parents: Keep screens off an hour before bedtime and introduce calming activities like reading or gratitude journaling to ensure quality sleep. Make Their Bed: A Simple Step Toward Responsibility 3 / 11 It might seem minor, but making the bed can be a transformative act. It's a small victory that sets a productive tone for the entire day. Why it matters: This habit promotes self-discipline, responsibility, and a sense of achievement. Studies have shown that people who make their bed are more productive and better at sticking to other good habits. Pro Tip for Parents: Make it a 2-minute challenge. Turn it into a fun race or family routine. Practice Gratitude: Nurture a Positive Mindset 4 / 11 A grateful heart fosters emotional resilience. Encourage kids to mention 2–3 things they're thankful for each morning, be it family, friends, or something simple like a good breakfast. Why it matters: Gratitude improves emotional well-being, reduces anxiety, and cultivates optimism—essential traits for success. Pro Tip for Parents: Create a "Gratitude Jar" where kids drop a note every morning. It becomes a joyful archive of positive memories. Do Some Light Movement or Exercise 5 / 11 Morning stretches, yoga, dancing, or a quick walk energise the body and sharpen the brain. It boosts mood, focus, and learning capacity. Why it matters: Physical activity enhances concentration, confidence, and emotional regulation in kids. It's a natural mood booster that prepares them for school or play. Pro Tip for Parents: Make it fun! Create a 5-minute 'family dance break' or follow a kids' YouTube yoga session together. Eat a Nutritious Breakfast: Fuel for Success 6 / 11 Skipping breakfast can lead to fatigue, irritability, and poor concentration. A healthy morning meal sets the tone for a sharp mind and stable energy throughout the day. Why it matters: Children who eat balanced breakfasts perform better academically and are less likely to overeat unhealthy snacks later in the day. Pro Tip for Parents: Include a mix of protein, fiber, and healthy carbs. Think oats with fruit, nut butter toast, or a veggie smoothie. Plan the Day Ahead: Learn Prioritisation Early 7 / 11 Having a simple morning chat about the day's tasks helps kids feel more in control. It also develops organisational skills that are key for academic and life success. Why it matters: Planning boosts memory, improves time management, and reduces last-minute stress. Kids become more independent and responsible. Pro Tip for Parents: Use a magnetic daily planner on the fridge or create a fun checklist with stickers for younger kids. Read or Listen to Something Uplifting 8 / 11 Whether it's a short story, a motivational podcast, or a few pages of a book, morning reading enriches vocabulary, boosts imagination, and improves focus. Why it matters: Early readers often become lifelong learners. Exposure to new ideas early in the day fuels curiosity and growth. Pro Tip for Parents: Let them pick the content. Keep a small bookshelf or audio story playlist ready for morning use. Habits of successful children 9 / 11 Children may not understand the long-term impact of these morning habits right away, but with consistency, they're building the traits that set successful individuals apart: discipline, positivity, confidence, and emotional intelligence. As a parent or guardian, your role isn't just to enforce these habits but to model and celebrate them. Emotional intelligence in kids 10 / 11 Start small. Stay patient. And watch your child transform one morning at a time.
