Iran executes man convicted of being spy for Israel: Judiciary
"Majid Mosayebi... was hanged this morning after going through the full process of criminal procedure and after his sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court," the judiciary's Mizan Online website said.
Mosayebi was accused of seeking to provide "sensitive information... to Mossad."
Iran has carried out multiple arrests of people suspected of spying for Israel since the start of its bombing campaign against the Islamic republic on June 13.
Later Sunday, judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said three people had been arrested in the western province of Kermanshah on allegations of espionage.
The arrests were made thanks to "the rapid presence of the population and their assistance to the intelligence services, law enforcement agencies and judicial officers", he said.
"One of them is said to be a national of a European country," he added, quoted by Mizan.
Jahangir also announced that "special judicial branches would be formed" in provincial prosecutors' offices and courts to handle Israeli-linked espionage cases on an "extraordinary" basis.

Rubio calls off his Japan and South Korea visit, Nikkei reports
TOKYO: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio (pic) has called off his first visit to Japan and South Korea to focus on the Middle East, Japan's Nikkei newspaper reported on Thursday (July 3). Rubio was expected to land in Tokyo on Monday, but he has informed the Japanese and South Korean governments that his schedule will be postponed, the report said. Rubio had planned to visit Japan for the first time in early July, followed by South Korea, before attending the Asean foreign ministers' meetings in Malaysia, Kyodo reported last week, quoting a Japanese government official. Instead, Rubio is set to attend a meeting in Washington between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Nikkei added. Earlier in the day, Seoul's Foreign Ministry said that Rubio's visit to South Korea appears to be "difficult" to arrange in the near future. - Reuters

Israeli military readies plan to counter Iran threat, says defence minister
DUBAI: The Israeli military is preparing an enforcement plan to 'ensure that Iran cannot return to threaten Israel', Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz told senior military officials. He said the military must be prepared, both in intelligence and operations, to ensure Israel has air superiority and to prevent Tehran from reestablishing its previous capabilities. He made his remarks following a 12-day air war between the longtime enemies in June, during which Israel struck Iranian nuclear facilities, saying the aim was to prevent Tehran developing a nuclear weapon. Iran denies seeking nuclear arms and that its nuclear programme is only for peaceful purposes. Israel and Iran agreed to a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that ended hostilities on June 24. - Reuters

Israel minister says army will 'ensure Iran cannot threaten' country again
JERUSALEM: Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the army must draw up a plan to prevent Iran from threatening Israel again after the arch-foes fought a 12-day war last month, in comments released today (July 04). The Israeli military's "current mission is to prepare an enforcement plan to ensure that Iran cannot threaten Israel again," Katz said at a meeting with military leaders Thursday, according to a statement released by his ministry. "The army must prepare on the intelligence and operational level to ensure that the air force maintains air superiority over Tehran, the ability to enforce restrictions on Iran and prevent it from rebuilding its capabilities," he added. Israel launched a bombing campaign against Iran on June 13 following a decades-long shadow war, saying it aimed to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon — an ambition Tehran has consistently denied — and degrade its ballistic missile arsenal. Following a US-announced ceasefire, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to prevent Iran from ever rebuilding its nuclear facilities, raising the prospect of further conflict. Katz wrote on X on June 27 that the army will "act regularly to thwart such threats." Israeli media say the country's leaders are seeking a similar approach to the one it has adopted in Lebanon. Its army regularly launches strikes on what it says are suspected Hezbollah militant positions and operatives in Lebanon despite a truce signed in November. Israel has acknowledged being hit by more than 50 missiles during the 12-day war with Iran, resulting in 28 deaths, according to official figures. In Iran, Israeli strikes killed more than 900 people, according to the country's judiciary. — AFP
