Okpala is rated the nation's No. 281 overall prospect and No. 27 edge-rusher and accumulated more than 30 scholarship offers during his recruitment.
As a junior, he recorded 55 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, 5 sacks, 2 force fumbles and 1 fumble recoveries.
So, where is he headed?
Okpala took official visits to all four of his finalists, but it was the Longhorns that earned his final trip.
And it has been Texas that has all the momentum heading into his decision day.
247Sports has a flurry of predictions in - all favoring the Longhorns - while On3 gives Steve Sarkisian's program a 95.9 percent chance of landing Okpala.

What would Texas be getting?
Here's what 247Sports had to say about Okpala as a prospect:
"Long-levered two-point edge defender who could stay at the line of scrimmage or move to an off-ball linebacker role. Legitimately 6-foot-2 and around 230 pounds with significant frame potential given a wingspan greater than +7 inches relative to height."
"Good functional athlete who's still putting together technical nuance and possesses ample developmental upside. Will need to continue to add mass/strength, especially if living full-time as an edge, but compensates at times with startling pursuit speed that manifests in closing ability and chase-down juice when required."

"Shows flashes of redirecting twitch at edge and linebacker, whether in pads or elite camp settings. Still, more natural as a forward-oriented player, whether rushing the passer or defending the run. Displays encouraging sudden burst and flexibility considering impressive, muscled-up stature."
"Projects as a P4/high-major defensive piece whose ultimate positional home could depend on scheme/staff. Owns physical traits and natural athleticism that could lead to long-term NFL Draft candidacy."
Overall, the Texas 2026 recruiting class consists of 15 pledges and is ranked No. 14 nationally.
That group is led by Elite 11 Finals MVP and five-star quarterback Dia Bell, Willis (Texas) five-star athlete Jermaine Bishop and elite edge-rusher Richard Wesley.

Guardians' Luis Ortiz Under Investigation in Potential Betting Scandal originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While the Cleveland Guardians continue to slump, riding on a six-game losing streak entering Wednesday, they will be without starting pitcher Luis Ortiz after his name emerged as a suspect in an MLB betting scandal. Gambling firm IC360 sent multiple alerts in June to sportsbooks that involved Luis Ortiz's first pitches of specific innings. The first instance took place in his start against the Seattle Mariners on June 15 in the bottom of the second inning, where Ortiz opened the inning with a slider that was an obvious ball. Another alert took place on June 27, happening in Ortiz's first pitch of the top of the third inning in his start against the St. Louis Cardinals. He through another slider that was even further out of the zone. The leave could be extended if the investigation remains open. Cleveland made a statement on the situation on Thursday. Lakers sign unfairly-benched 7-foot center to catch lobs from Luka Doncic

It isn't the end of the week, and the Los Angeles Lakers have already strengthened their frontcourt for the upcoming NBA season. After signing former Phoenix Suns and Portland Trail Blazers center Deandre Ayton to a two-year deal, the franchise signed his unfairly-benched backup center, Jaxson Hayes, to a one-year deal to return to Los Angeles. Advertisement "Free agent center Jaxson Hayes has agreed on a one-year deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers,' ESPN's Shams Charania reported Thursday. 'Hayes' agents, Bill Duffy and Marlon Harrison of WME Basketball, finalized a contract with Lakers president Rob Pelinka on Thursday.' 'Hayes emerged as the Lakers starting center last season and shot a career high 72.2% from the field and finished top-10 in field goal percentage allowed as a contesting defender on layups and dunks among players to contest 250+ shots. Now backs up new Lakers big man Deandre Ayton.' Hayes looked like a completely different low-post player when Luka Doncic arrived in Los Angeles. Hayes, an athletic and lengthy big man who struggled to find his footing early on in his NBA career, was a dynamic lob threat for the former Dallas Mavericks superstar in pick-and-roll situations (he averaged 9.8 points per game in March on 79.7% field goal shooting). Advertisement Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Unfortunately, Hayes received only 7.5 minutes per game with the Lakers against the Timberwolves in the postseason, allowing Rudy Gobert to end Los Angeles' season on April 27. While Hayes' starting days are likely behind him, he could be a high-level reserve for JJ Redick and the Lakers during the 2025-26 campaign if given the opportunity.
