ADAFSA closes "WAFI HYPERMARKET' in Abu Dhabi
ADAFSA clarified that the food control report indicated that the administrative closure decision against the establishment was due to its violation of food safety regulations. This was specifically because of repeated high-risk violations that directly impact food safety, along with the establishment's failure to take effective corrective actions to address these violations, thereby endangering food safety and consumer health. As a result, an administrative closure notice was issued, along with three violations due to several critical infractions, including pest infestations, display of expired products, and poor hygiene practices within the establishment.
The Authority also affirmed that the administrative closure order will remain in effect as long as its causes exist. The establishment may resume operations after rectifying its situation and fulfilling all the necessary requirements for practicing the activity, and removing the causes of the violation.
In addition, ADAFSA highlighted that the closure and the identification of observed violations are part of ongoing inspection efforts to strengthen the food safety system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It underscores its supervisory role in ensuring that all establishments comply with food safety requirements. All types of establishments and food products are subject to periodic inspections by ADAFSA's inspectors to guarantee compliance with the highest food safety standards.
The Authority also encourages the public to communicate with them and report any violations detected in any food establishment, such as non-compliance or suspicion of food content, by calling the toll-free number for the Abu Dhabi Government, 800555. ADAFSA's inspectors will take the necessary measures to ensure the delivery of safe and sound food to all members of the community in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

United States (U.S.) Government Supports Regional Emergency Management Strengthening
Today the first cohort of the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Training graduated in Abuja. The intermediate level training was hosted by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Seventeen public health emergency operations center staff members from countries across the region (Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia, and Mali) participated in the two-week training. They learned and strengthened the skills needed to effectively operate incident management systems for outbreak preparedness and response. As a result, the region is now better equipped to prepare for and respond to epidemics and pandemics. In her remarks at the graduation ceremony, the U.S. CDC Division of Global Health Protection Acting Program Director Asmau Aminu-Alhaji thanked the graduates for their dedication to public health both at home and across the region and highlighted the importance of public health collaboration and communication across borders. The Public Health Emergency Management Professional Certification Program is part of the U.S. Government's support for global health Security in Nigeria and globally. It provides emergency operations staff and other public health experts with specialized training in public health emergency management, operations, and other critical preparedness and response skills. DoH advances paediatric cell and gene therapy
The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., to establish the Abu Dhabi - Children's National Hospital Cell and Gene Therapy Clinical Excellence Programme. The partnership marks a major step in advancing access to paediatric cell and gene therapies across the UAE. The agreement outlines joint fellowships, training programmes and workshops aimed at developing local expertise, positioning Abu Dhabi as a global hub for innovation in life sciences. Dr Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at DoH, said the partnership reflects Abu Dhabi's integrated, patient-centred approach to healthcare. She added, "By combining global expertise with local ambition, we are building a care model that is sustainable, scalable and tailored to the needs of our youngest patients." Michelle Riley-Brown, President and CEO of Children's National, said the collaboration builds on a long-standing partnership with the UAE, aiming to fast-track the development of cutting-edge therapies and offer new hope to children and families. The initiative will drive development and delivery of advanced therapies such as Virus-Specific T-cell therapies (VST), with plans to establish Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliant facilities, standardise treatment protocols, and streamline clinical trial systems in Abu Dhabi. The agreement also covers joint biobanking, data governance improvements and long-term patient care integration. A major component includes Emirati clinician-scientist fellowships and the co-development of specialised training in cellular immunotherapy and trial management. The partnership will introduce virtual tumour board sessions and hands-on training in cell therapy manufacturing, quality control, and clinical procedures. Complementary workshops will focus on Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs) and regulatory design, strengthening Abu Dhabi's healthcare workforce. The agreement follows a high-level Abu Dhabi delegation visit to the United States from 15th to 21st June, 2025, focused on health innovation and investment. In a groundbreaking achievement for Lebanon and the region, the first advanced robotic liver surgery was successfully performed at Hopital Francais du Levant, in collaboration with IRCAD Liban, the only internationally accredited center in the Middle East specialized in robotic surgical education.
