2 killed in Throggs Neck shooting near Bronx's Ferry Point Park, NYPD says
The fatal shooting happened early Monday morning on Schley Avenue, right at the edge of Ferry Point Park, a popular destination for families and others who want to spend time outdoors.
A large police presence was summoned to the scene near Ferry Point Park after multiple shots were fired at the men in a parking lot, NYPD said.
A 21-year-old was shot in the stomach and buttocks, and a 22-year-old was shot in the armpit and shoulder, according to investigators.
They were both rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead. As of noon, the victims' families had not been notified, police said.
While no arrests have been made, investigators said they were looking for two people who were wearing ski masks when they took off from the scene on some kind of scooter.
Visitors to the park on Monday said they were startled by the investigation.
"Right now, I'm obviously scared because I've never heard this before. I've been living in this part of the Bronx for over 32 years," one man said.
"I saw this and I'm like, 'Oh my god!'" another man said. "It caught me by surprise. I didn't expect my first day coming out to the field to work out would be two people killed."
It was not immediately clear what led up to the shooting, police said.
The deadly shooting on Schley Avenue comes just two days after another incident near Ferry Point Park.
A 21-year-old man survived after getting shot in the torso early Saturday morning on Brush Avenue.
Police were searching for four suspects who fled in a Dodge Durango, but no arrests have been made in this case either.
Detectives are looking into whether the shootings are connected.

A 47-year-old man has been taken to hospital after a stabbing near a luxury hotel in Mayfair. The incident happened in Brook's Mews near Claridge's hotel at 7.55am today (July 31). Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended and found a man who had been stabbed. He was taken to hospital for treatment where his condition was assessed as non life threatening. Uber says some sexual assault accusers submitted fake receipts
By Jonathan Stempel (Reuters) -Uber said it found more than 100 instances in which passengers who claimed its drivers sexually assaulted or harassed them offered bogus or doctored receipts to prove ridership, or did not explain their inability to provide receipts. In a Wednesday court filing, Uber urged U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer in San Francisco to order 21 plaintiffs with suspect receipts to justify why their claims should not be dismissed, and 90 plaintiffs to provide receipts or "non-boilerplate" reasons for their absence. At least 11 law firms represent the various plaintiffs, court papers show. Those firms had no immediate comment or did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Thursday. They were not accused of wrongdoing. Uber is trying to reduce its liability in nationwide federal litigation comprising more than 2,450 lawsuits alleging driver misconduct. It faces several hundred additional lawsuits in San Francisco Superior Court. The San Francisco-based company has maintained it should not be liable for criminal conduct by drivers it connects with passengers, and that its background checks and disclosures were sufficient. On July 8, Breyer dismissed some fraud and liability claims that were based on ads promoting Uber's ride-sharing service as a safe alternative to drunk driving. In Wednesday's filing, Uber said some fake receipts appear to have been generated through third-party websites. Uber said some receipts contained math errors or bogus surcharges, changed female driver names to male names, were timestamped before rides occurred, had stray marks, or used formatting that does not match its own. One plaintiff submitted two receipts for a single ride, while two plaintiffs submitted different versions of the same receipt, the company said. "Nothing is more critical to the integrity of our judicial system than honesty," Uber said. "It is difficult to conceive an act of misconduct graver than the outright fabrication of evidence that plaintiffs here undertook." Nightclub 'argument' turns into violence as police storm city centre street
Police descended after a nightclub 'fight' turned into violence on a city centre street. Footage circulating on social media showed at least four Greater Manchester Police cars on flashing lights stopped on Whitworth Street West in the early hours of this morning (July 31). A group of people could be seen gathered outside, including a number of men seen speaking with GMP officers. The force says a 25-year-old man went on to be arrested on suspicion of common assault. A spokesperson for MN1 told the Manchester Evening News that 'no arrests' took place at the venue, but said one man had been 'ejected' by officers following a 'heated argument'. Other individuals then got involved in an argument outside, the nightclub says. The spokesperson said: "No arrests were made only one male was made to leave the area by police after being ejected from the premises after a heated argument inside the premises. "MN1 have a zero tolerance to any kind of aggressive behaviour. "Subsequently several males proceeded to argue outside the premises and police were called to ensure no beach of the peace [was] committed and [to] reduce any disturbances caused to our neighbours."
