'A very strong bond': Nicole Kidman's niece Lucia Hawley, 27, announces she is moving to London to be 'a little closer' to famous aunt

Sky News AU11-05-2025
Nicole Kidman's niece Lucia Hawley is moving to London to pursue her journalism career - and to put less distance between herself and her famous family.
The 27-year-old is the daughter of the Australian Oscar winner's only sister, Antonia Kidman and late businessman Angus Hawley.
She will begin her new life in the United Kingdom's capital next month with her long-term partner Henry Poole.
Hawley, who has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Sydney, hopes to land a sought-after role in the media.
On Saturday, she joked she followed Antonia's journalism career because she had not inherited her world-famous aunt's acting talent.
'I wish I had that talent. I feel like that would have made things really great if I was an amazing actress, but unfortunately I have chosen a much, less lower paying profession," Hawley told the Daily Telegraph.
The aspiring TV presenter was also excited to move closer to Nicole and her daughters, and Sunday Rose, 16, Faith Margaret, 14.
"Being a little closer to my aunty and cousins is a real comfort... it's been nice to go over to Nashville and visit family. We have a very strong bond."
Hawley recently celebrated Easter at Nicole's 10,925-square-foot Nashville residence.
She will report for presenting partner Shark Beauty at Australian Fashion Week this week, capturing vox pop content with Shark Beauty guests, designers, and backstage stylists.
The rising media personality was replaced by Bachelor star Bella Velaris as the 'face' of 7Bravo, where she interviewed celebrities on the red carpet as part of the channel's "Live From E!" segments, in February 2023.
She has enjoyed a charmed rise through the competitive media landscape in Sydney after completing a coveted internship at Vogue Australia and then joining Nine Honey.
Hawley is often on the other side of the red carpet attending high-profile events with her famous aunt, including Kidman's recent AFI Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony in Los Angeles.
At the glitzy event, she rubbed shoulders with Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, and Michelle Pfeiffer and posed for photos with Nicole.

Larry Emdur's last-minute move on the red carpet: The Morning Show host makes an unexpected ‘trade'

Last night the brightest stars of Australian TV graced the red carpet for the 65th annual TV Week Logie Awards. 7News had a front and centre seat to witness all the glitz and glamour that takes place, including some last-minute 'tricks' to get the Channel 7 entourage red carpet ready. Thanks to Amazon Australia's 'box of tricks', a few famous faces were able to pick out some essentials for the night, including Morning Show host Larry Emdur, who surprised everyone by making a last minute move on the carpet. Delving into the goodies, he traded in an item of his own in favour of something a little more minty fresh from the Amazon box. 'Want in on my box of tricks?' red carpet host Sally Bowrey says. 'Because I always want to be considerate for my Seven friends.' 'Okay I'm going to swap you,' says Larry, before revealing his 'trade': a mini bottle of whisky from his back pocket. Placing it inside the box, he then picked up a packet of Eclipse sugar-free mints — a must-have for any red carpet event. 'Actually no,' he remarks before taking back the bottle, and picking up another pack of mints, this time a multipack of Oral Care Strips from Listerine. Married At First Sight experts admit they ‘can't really avoid' controversial contestants after Nine came under fire for show violence

Married At First Sight experts Alessandra Rapolla and John Aiken have made a huge admission about controversial contestants joining the reality TV juggernaut - that seem to fly in the face of network's desire to keep the show's drama "out of the courtroom". Speaking to at the 65th TV WEEK Logie Awards at Sydney's The Star on Sunday evening, Rampolla and Aiken divulged details about how the Nine Network will clean up the reality dating show in 2026. Nine has implemented stricter background checks, more in-depth psychological screening, and tough guidelines aimed at avoiding another police scandal after groom Paul Antoine punched a wall last season. However, Rampolla said the network and production company Endemol Shine Australia still "can't really avoid" having questionable cast members on the show. "We're just beginning the filming (for the 2026 season), and the checks and balances are there previously," the clinical sexologist said. "But then also people can choose to disclose or not disclose (their background). "And they can choose to act a certain way and then reveal themselves through many months of filming and all the stresses that go into that." "So you can't really avoid if somebody is perhaps willingly trying to be deceptive." Rampolla said the experts will nevertheless always "call out" and "bring about" different ways of managing deceptive brides and grooms. "And really find a good, safe resolution," she said. Aiken echoed his co-expert, saying the duo, along with their third counterpart, dating coach Mel Schilling, will help mitigate the risk of cast members being aggressive next year. "We're always very, very strong on checks and balances," he said. "What we found as experts is that people will surprise us all the time, and then it's what we do to manage it." Elaborating on the changes to the next season as filming gets underway, Aiken said many "strong women" who are culturally diverse are set to walk down the aisle to shoot their shot at finding love on TV in 2026. "We have a lot of strong women on the show this year, which I think will bring different mindsets, different perspectives, which is great, but also culturally as well. We wanted to bring different cultures in there," he said. An insider last month told the final weeks of pre-production were stressful, with the show at risk of losing strong brides. 'We struggled a bit locking in the last few grooms,' the source said. 'We had some really strong women and didn't want to lose them, so it was a bit of a puzzle to get the right matches.' It comes as a NSW Police spokesperson told "no further police action is expected" following last year's investigation into the program after groom Paul Antoine's violent act, in which he admitted to punching a hole in a wall during filming while arguing with his onscreen "wife". MAFS producers are promising a 'fresh take' on the dating show's format, which has dominated Australian reality TV for more than a decade. Nine executives reportedly issued a very clear directive: 'Go hard on challenging the participants, but keep the drama out of the courtroom.' 'Safe Work was also heavily involved in reviewing the show's future, and Channel Nine has taken their recommendations very seriously,' a network insider said. 'They want compelling TV but not at the expense of cast wellbeing or legal risk.' While Channel Nine has yet to confirm an official air date for the next season, MAFS season 13 is expected to premiere in January 2026. have reached out to the Nine Network for further comment.

Overseas stars lure tourists Down Under in new push

Australian celebrity Robert Irwin, English television cook Nigella Lawson and other international stars are tempting tourists to the land Down Under. Shots of these celebrities set against iconic Australian landscapes are part of the federal government's newest tourism push to attract travellers from five countries. Advertisements featuring Chinese actor Yosh Yu, Ms Lawson and Japanese comedian Abareru-kun will air in their home countries, while Steve Irwin's son will become the face of the American campaign and wellness advocate Sara Tendulkar will star in ads broadcast in India. This $130 million push builds on Tourism Australia's Come and Say G'day campaign, which launched the lovable animated mascot Ruby the Roo. "Traditionally tourism campaigns have leveraged one famous face across every market but for our latest campaign Ruby will be joined by well-known talent from five different markets to showcase personal lasting memories of a holiday to Australia," Tourism Australia managing director Phillipa Harrison said. "These international stars combine with local talent ... to create bespoke invitations for five markets." Since the resumption of international travel, the domestic tourism industry has grown with the number of international arrivals expected to reach a record 10 million in 2026 and 11.8 million in 2029. More than 700,000 jobs and 360,000 Australian businesses depend on tourism. The teaser for this campaign was first launched in July during the prime minister's trip to China. Chinese travellers remain Australia's second biggest cohort of tourists behind New Zealand, figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show. "Tourism is the lifeblood of so many communities right around the country and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs," Tourism Minister Don Farrell said. "The previous campaign struck a chord with visitors, with Ruby the Roo bounding into the imagination of countless guests, encouraging them to book a holiday down under. "I know this iteration, featuring popular talent like Robert Irwin, will be a smash." The advertisements will go live in China from August 7 on TV and online.
