Sreesanth's Daughter Told Harbhajan Singh 'You Hit My Father', Refused To Talk

News1820-07-2025
Harbhajan Singh has revealed that Sreesanth's daughter, Sreesanvika, refused to talk to him because of the slap-gate incident in 2008.
Harbhajan Singh has expressed deep regret for slapping his once-teammate S Sreesanth during the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2008, revealing how his daughter, Sreesanvika, has refused to talk to him because of the incident. Harbhajan said it's the one thing he wishes he could erase from his life, for even 200 apologies to Sreesanth and more to his daughter can't amend it.
Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth after a match between the Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab (now called the Punjab Kings) in Mohali. Reports at the time suggested that Sreesanth was teasing Harbhajan for losing the match, and the Punjabi lost his cool. Sreesanth was seen crying and being consoled by teammates afterwards. The two have moved on and seem to share a friendly relationship but it still haunts the spinner.
'One thing I'd want to change in my life is that incident with Sreesanth," Harbhajan recalled in an interview with Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter's YouTube show, Kutti Stories. ' I want to remove that incident from my career. What transpired was wrong and I shouldn't have done what I d id. I apologised 200 times… Yes, in that game we were opponents. But it shouldn't have gone to that level where we behave in such a manner… The only fault of his was that he provoked me, but that's okay actually. However, what I did was not okay. I said, 'Sorry'."
Harbhajan also recalled being 'shattered' by learning what Sreesanvika thought of him.
'What hurt me even after many years was when I met his daughter and I was talking to her with a lot of love and she said, 'I don't want to talk to you. You hit my father.' My heart was shattered and I was on the verge of tears. I was asking myself what is the impression I've left on her? She must be thinking of me in a poor light, right? She sees me as the guy who hit her father. I felt so bad. I still apologise to his daughter that I can't do anything. I keep telling her, 'but if there's anything I can do to make you feel better and make you think I'm not that kind of person, please tell me'. I wish when she grows up, she doesn't see me in the same light. And think her uncle will always be with her and extend any kind of support he can. That's why I want to remove that chapter," Harbhajan added.

IPL 2026: Nitish Kumar Reddy Breaks Silence On His Future With Sunrisers Hyderabad Amid Trade Rumours

India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has broken silence on his future with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) amid the trade rumours. According to a report from India Today, Nitish had expressed his desire to leave SRH over his role in the team, especially after being pushed down the batting order. However, the 22-year-old all-rounder on Sunday took to social media to issue clarification, saying that he will always stand by his current IPL team. "I tend to stay away from the noise, but some things deserve clarity. My connection with SRH is built on trust, respect, and years of shared passion. I'll always stand by this team," wrote Reddy on his 'X' account. Ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction, Visakhapatnam-based Reddy was retained by SRH at Rs six crore. It came after Reddy amassed 303 runs in 13 matches and also took three wickets in IPL 2024, which paved his way for selection into India T20I and Test teams. But Reddy failed to repeat his heroics in IPL 2025 - scoring only 182 runs in 13 games and didn't bowl a lot of overs due to his recovery from a side strain which kept him out of action after the first T20I against England earlier this year.

Jasprit Bumrah & Rishabh Pant OUT, 4 Players IN! India's Likely Playing XI For 5th Test

The fifth Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England will be played at The Oval in London from July 31 to August 4. The fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England will be played at The Oval from July 31 to August 4. For the match starting on Thursday, Indian team management could make at least four changes to the playing XI. Rishabh Pant suffered a foot injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Manchester, and because of that reason, he will miss the game in London. In his place, Dhruv Jurel is all set to get a chance to play as a wicketkeeper-batter. World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah was supposed to play three Tests in England, and he has already played three out of the first four matches, which means he will also skip the game at The Oval as part of his workload management. Akash Deep was Bumrah's replacement in India's playing XI for the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, and once again, in all likelihood, he will replace him for the final Test of the series. Akash Deep missed the fourth Test in Manchester due to an injury. In the game at Old Trafford, which ended in a draw, Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj replaced Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the playing XI, but both of them failed to make any impact with the ball. Their poor show with the ball could make the Indian team management bring Kuldeep Yadav back into India's playing XI after more than nine months and also hand a maiden Test cap to left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep, who is India's highest wicket-taker in T20Is, was in line to play in Manchester as well, but he missed out due to an injury that he suffered in the practice session. India are unlikely to make changes in the top four, and the centuries by Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the second innings of the drawn match at Old Trafford are also a big boost for India, as they now could play with four specialist bowlers rather than going with three bowlers and including one all-rounder. India's likely playing XI for the 5th Test in Manchester: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
