"You Hit My Father": Harbhajan Singh Reveals How S Sreesanth's Daughter's Reaction On IPL Slap-Gate Shattered Him
The inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) made several headlines not only because of its unique concept but also due to some controversial moments. The biggest controversy happened when Mumbai Indians captain Harbhajan Singh slapped Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) pacer Sreesanth, after a match between the two teams in Mohali. This incident went viral like a wildfire which left the ex-India pacer in tears and Harbhajan was banned from the remained of the tournament. 17 years have passed and both the cricketers have moved on from the incident and share a good relation with each other. On numerous occasions, the former spinner has apologised to Sreesanth for his actions. However, the scars of the incident are still there in Harbhajan's heart and he is not able to get over it. In a recent interaction with ex-India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan revealed a heartbreaking moment when Sreesanth's daughter refused to talk to him because of the 'slapgate' incident. 'One thing I'd want to change in my life is that incident with Sreesanth. I want to remove that incident from my career. That is the incident I would change from my list. What transpired was wrong and I shouldn't have done what I did. I apologised 200 times. What I felt so bad was even years after that incident, I have been apologising every opportunity or stage I get. It was a mistake,' said Harbhajan on Kutti Stories with Ash. 'What hurt me even after many years was when I met his daughter and I was talking to her with a lot of love and she said, 'I don't want to talk to you. You hit my father.' My heart was shattered and I was on the verge of tears. I was asking myself what is the impression I've left on her? She must be thinking of me in a poor light, right? She sees me as the guy who hit her father. I felt so bad. I still apologise to his daughter that I can't do anything,' he added. Both Sreesanth and Harbhajan were a part of India's 2011 World Cup-winning squad.

Harbhajan Singh remembers IPL slap and how Sreesanth's daughter now refuses to speak to him
It has been 17 years since Harbhajan Singh slapped Sreesanth during an IPL match, yet the guilt still lingers. Speaking on R Ashwin's Kutti Stories, the former India off-spinner said he's tried again and again to make peace with the past. He's apologised. Reached out. Publicly admitted his mistake. But nothing stung quite like a recent encounter with Sreesanth's daughter. A few words from her, he said, 'shattered' him more than any consequence he faced back then. 'She sees me as the guy who hit her father,' he confessed. The slap that won't go away When asked what decision he would undo from his life, Harbhajan brought up the 'slapgate' incident. Back in 2008, Harbhajan, playing for Mumbai Indians, slapped Sreesanth—who was with Kings XI Punjab—after a match. Cameras caught Sreesanth in tears as his teammates comforted him. The BCCI immediately banned Harbhajan for the rest of the season. Since then, he has repeatedly taken responsibility. Just months ago, he replied to a viral clip on social media, saying: 'This wasn't right bhai. It was my mistake. Galti hui, insaan hu.' He has owned up to his mistake, again and again. But the shame clearly hasn't faded. He told Ashwin, 'I have been apologizing every opportunity or stage I get. It was a mistake. We all make mistakes, and we hope and try to never repeat such mistakes.' The line that hit harder than any slap Harbhajan recalled the conversation with Sreesanth's daughter in detail. The interaction might have been brief, but it shook him to his core. 'What hurt me even after many years was when I met his daughter, and I was talking to her with a lot of love,' he said, 'and she said, 'I don't want to talk to you. You hit my father.'' For Harbhajan, this hit like a ton of bricks. 'My heart was shattered,' he admitted. 'I was on the verge of tears. I was asking myself, what is the impression I've left on her? She must be thinking of me in a poor light, right?' He added that he still tells her he's sorry. Not just for what happened, but for what she saw in him. Even now, he hopes that as she grows up, she will eventually see him as 'her uncle,' willing to support her, rather than just the man who struck her father.

Sreesanth's Daughter Told Harbhajan Singh 'You Hit My Father', Refused To Talk
Harbhajan Singh has revealed that Sreesanth's daughter, Sreesanvika, refused to talk to him because of the slap-gate incident in 2008. Harbhajan Singh has expressed deep regret for slapping his once-teammate S Sreesanth during the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2008, revealing how his daughter, Sreesanvika, has refused to talk to him because of the incident. Harbhajan said it's the one thing he wishes he could erase from his life, for even 200 apologies to Sreesanth and more to his daughter can't amend it. Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth after a match between the Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab (now called the Punjab Kings) in Mohali. Reports at the time suggested that Sreesanth was teasing Harbhajan for losing the match, and the Punjabi lost his cool. Sreesanth was seen crying and being consoled by teammates afterwards. The two have moved on and seem to share a friendly relationship but it still haunts the spinner. 'One thing I'd want to change in my life is that incident with Sreesanth," Harbhajan recalled in an interview with Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter's YouTube show, Kutti Stories. ' I want to remove that incident from my career. What transpired was wrong and I shouldn't have done what I d id. I apologised 200 times… Yes, in that game we were opponents. But it shouldn't have gone to that level where we behave in such a manner… The only fault of his was that he provoked me, but that's okay actually. However, what I did was not okay. I said, 'Sorry'." Harbhajan also recalled being 'shattered' by learning what Sreesanvika thought of him. I still apologise to his daughter that I can't do anything. I keep telling her, 'but if there's anything I can do to make you feel better and make you think I'm not that kind of person, please tell me'. I wish when she grows up, she doesn't see me in the same light. And think her uncle will always be with her and extend any kind of support he can. That's why I want to remove that chapter," Harbhajan added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
