Hospital In UP's Ballia Treats Patients Under Torchlight After Power Backup Fails
A video showed patients treated in torchlight at Ballia hospital due to a power outage and generator glitch. The issue is now resolved with inverters.
Following a viral video showing patients being treated under torchlight in the emergency room of Ballia district hospital, health department officials revealed the incident was caused by a power outage combined with a generator malfunction.
Dr. S K Yadav, Chief Medical Superintendent of Ballia district hospital, told PTI Bhasha that the power supply in the area was disrupted on Friday evening, and the hospital's generator experienced technical problems, resulting in a 45-minute outage.
Yadav mentioned that someone likely captured the situation on video and posted it online, leading to its viral spread on Saturday.

In response to the issue, the emergency medical room has now been equipped with an adequate number of inverters to ensure efficiency and prevent future occurrences.
Earlier in June, a huge uproar occurred due to a power outage in Hardoi's district hospital. The opposition targeted the Yogi government for the lapse. The power cut was widespread and all the basic cooling facilities were hampered due to it.
Congress highlighted the situation and posted on X (formerly Twitter), 'Look at the condition of Hardoi Medical College in UP. There is no electricity in the ward, patients and their attendants are suffering from heat and are forced to swing their bedding. This is the truth of the 4 trillion economy. Where crores were spent on publicity, but not even a smidge of work was done on the ground. The public is suffering, leader eating mushrooms."
Amar Ujala reported, more than 2,000 prescriptions are issued daily at the OPD, where four ACs have been installed, but only two were working.

Korean culture has long been admired for its emphasis on balance, wellness, and longevity. From skincare routines to mindful eating, many lifestyle habits in Korea are deeply rooted in traditional wisdom, yet backed by modern science. If you're looking to live your best, healthiest life, here are a few Korean habits worth adopting. Korean Lifestyle Habits For Better Health To Live Your Best Life Fermented Foods for Gut Health: Kimchi, doenjang (fermented soybean paste), and other probiotic-rich foods are daily staples in Korean meals. These not only aid digestion but also boost immunity and support a healthy gut microbiome, which is key to everything from mental clarity to skin health. Warm, Balanced Meals: Koreans prioritise warm, cooked foods over cold or processed ones. A typical meal includes rice, soup, and several vegetable-based side dishes (banchan), offering a balance of macronutrients and minimal sugar or processed fats. Movement Throughout the Day: Rather than relying solely on gym sessions, daily physical activity is woven into Korean life. Whether it's taking long walks in parks, practising taekkyeon (traditional martial arts), or seniors doing light stretching in public spaces, movement is constant and encouraged at all ages. Skin Health as an Indicator of Internal Health: Skincare is not just vanity; it's a reflection of inner wellness. Korean routines often include facial massages, hydration-rich ingredients, and sun protection, all supporting better circulation and reduced inflammation. Respect for Routine and Sleep: A structured daily routine, including consistent sleep and wake times, is common in Korean households. Sleep is considered sacred for beauty, immunity, and mental well-being. Community and Shared Meals: Meals are rarely eaten alone. Eating together fosters emotional bonding, reduces stress, and often leads to slower, more mindful eating – all of which support better digestion and mental health. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 17:30 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ophthalmologist Shares All Eye Infection Risks Contact Lens Users Should Know About
Last Updated: Microbial infections, vision loss, and how poor hygiene can turn contact lenses from help to hazard. Contact lenses are a convenient alternative to glasses, offering a wider field of vision and more freedom in daily activities. But behind the ease and aesthetics lies a serious health risk if lenses aren't handled with care. Corneal infections, some of which can lead to permanent vision loss, are a growing concern, especially among those who wear lenses for extended periods or neglect hygiene routines. ' Contact lenses can disrupt the eye's natural defenses, particularly the tear film that protects the cornea," explains Dr. Neeraj Sanduja, Ophthalmologist and Founder of Viaan Eye and Retina Centre. 'Improper use or storage creates an environment where harmful microorganisms can thrive," he adds. Among the most serious complications is microbial keratitis, a painful and potentially blinding infection of the cornea. It can be caused by bacteria, fungi, or amoebas such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acanthamoeba, all of which flourish in moist, contaminated environments like old lens cases or tap water. 'Sleeping in contact lenses or extending their wear time significantly reduces oxygen supply to the cornea," warns Dr. Sanduja. 'This makes the eye more vulnerable to infections and microtrauma." 'Lens-related infections often stem from poor hygiene," says Dr. Sanduja. 'Even something as simple as swimming or showering with lenses on can expose the eyes to waterborne microorganisms like Acanthamoeba, which are very difficult to treat." Daily Habits Make the Difference Extended wear lenses or long hours of wear, even during the day, can gradually weaken the corneal surface. Some users also blink less when wearing lenses, leading to dryness that weakens the eye's natural barriers. 'Microtrauma during insertion or removal and dry eye from reduced blinking further compromise the cornea," notes Dr. Sanduja. 'The best way to stay safe is to follow hygiene protocols strictly, avoid water exposure, and never ignore discomfort." What You Can Do to Protect Your Eyes 'Your eyes are too precious to risk. Treat lenses with the same care you would for a surgical instrument, they sit directly on one of the most delicate parts of your body," Dr. Sanduja advises. Always wash and dry your hands before handling lenses. Use a fresh disinfecting solution every time. Replace lenses and cases as recommended. Avoid water exposure, including showers and swimming. Never sleep with lenses unless prescribed. Schedule regular eye check-ups to catch problems early. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 17:18 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
