'Still 3-1 England': Michael Vaughan Doubles Down On His Prediction Despite India's Historic Win
India have made a terrific comeback in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with a historic 336-run win at Edgbaston.
Subman Gill-led India produced an all-round show on a placid Edgbaston pitch to record their biggest win (by run-margin) in an away Test. Gill combined with the fast-bowling duo of Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj to condemn England to a 336-run thrashing. The victory came after the visitors endured a five-wicket defeat in the five-match series opener last month.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan is sticking to his pre-series scoreline of 3-1 in favour of the hosts despite India's turnaround in Birmingham.
'India have been too good this week .. Outstanding performance .. My prediction is still alive .. 3-1 England .." Vaughan posted on X after India's win.
In his column for The Telegraph though Vaughan has criticised England for returning to 'bad old way".
'This team has given us so much joy over the last three years, and they can achieve great things over the next six months. After Headingley, it looked like they had improved, and we called it Bazball with brains. This week, they were back to their bad old ways," Vaughan wrote.
In Headingley, England benefitted from India's poor catching which allowed them wrest back the advantage. Vaughan says the Ben Stokes-led side didn't take into account that luck was on their side in the series opener.
'If we are honest, England have been absolutely hammered this week. Apart from four hours on the third day where Harry Brook and Jamie Smith batted beautifully, they have been totally dominated by India," Vaughan said.
'It was a performance that worried me greatly. I fear they used the first match as absolute evidence of how to play Test cricket. They showed great skill in that win, but there was also a lot of fortune involved. They turned up here and thought they should do everything the same way, and it has backfired," he added.
Vaughan said England have to 'evolve' and not based your method on the result of one game. 'You should not base your method entirely on a week's performance when you have had the rub of the green. You win games relying on fortune, but not big series like this one or the Ashes. This is an experienced team now, and they have to grow and be better," he wrote.

India vs England Test: Alyssa Healy's blunt take on Shubman Gill's dream run - 'Ball not really...'
BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND - JULY 06: Player of the match Shubman Gill after winning the 2nd Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Edgbaston on July 06, 2025 in Birmingham, England. (Photo by) Australia women's team captain Alyssa Healy has taken a sly dig at Shubman Gill 's dream run in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where he has amassed 585 runs in two Tests. Healy praised the Indian captain for what he has done so far in the series, but at the same time, she mentioned that the Duke ball is not doing much. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "I watched a little clip on his dismissals early in his career, and the ball was moving a lot. He got bowled, LBW a lot, like coming back through the gate," Healy said on the Willow Talk podcast. "That was his technical flaw, and all of a sudden, that's not happening now. So he's gone and worked on that. He's fixed that. "But also the ball, like, not really doing a whole heap, has probably helped him in that regard too. I am not downplaying this at all because it's been remarkable. "But yeah, like, kudos to him for making some technical changes knowing that hopefully they'd work in England." However, former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin showered praise on the new Indian captain. "It's what the best players in the world do. You all come in to start the Test career," said Haddin. Shubman Gill, Gautam Gambhir shut critics with thumping win over England "Everyone's got footage of everyone, and sometimes you can get exposed in a certain way, and it's not about getting exposed. It's about how you react to that and come back. And he's come back world-class. We've seen this for some time coming in the IPL. "He's been great taking over the captaincy there. He doesn't get flustered. He seems like one of those guys who's got an even tempo through the whole time. "And that's good for an Indian captain because a lot of the time, you can get caught up in the emotion of what's happening in the game. But what he's done with his team, the big thing as well — no Bumrah." Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

England skipper Ben Stokes snaps at Jasprit Bumrah question following Edgbaston loss, says 'I thought I'd get through...'
Ben Stokes. New Delhi: India came back strongly with a commanding all-round performance in the second match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to bring the biggest win in Test matches by runs in a foreign country. The visitors defeated England by 336 runs at Birmingham leaving the series tied at 1-1. This is a good omen to the Indian team with the pacers bowling at full force and the batting side and the stroke making it a treat to watch. Jasprit Bumrah will return for the third Test Indian followers have many reasons to be cheering with a short turnaround before the third Test at Lord, not least because Jasprit Bumrah should be back after being rested on Sunday. However, as the news of Bumrah returning to form makes the rounds, there seems to be one person who did not seem to be excited by the mention of his name. Ben Stokes snaps at Jasprit Bumrah question England captain Ben Stokes did not hold his words by being questioned whether Jasprit Bumrah can make a comeback to the series which is delicately poised. It is quite understandable that Stokes, being the man of short temper, could not take it anymore after being constantly asked questions about the Indian pacer in the post-match press conference after England lost to India. 'I thought I'd get through a press conference without being asked about Jasprit Bumrah,' said the English captain. However, Stokes did give some clarification in how the England batting line up is going to approach the threat posed by Bumrah when they move to London and how we need to be clear of the situation and maintain our composure against India pace spear head. 'We play against each other so often, you know what you will be faced with, so you put it into practice in training. Try to do what you can with the coaches and the sidearms, going wide on the crease, trying to give you practice like their bowling lineup,' explained Stokes. India will be eager to strike the right balance in their bowling combination, before the Test at the Lords. Meanwhile England will have to back to the backyards and must get ready properly to resist pace-bowling artillery that destroyed them during the second Test.

‘Shubman's Dream Batting Best In Last 3 Decades': Sourav Ganguly Hails ‘Flawless' Gill
Last Updated: Captain Gill's outstanding knocks in England have been garnering praise from the legends of the game. The latest one to join the bandwagon is former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Just two Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy are done, and three more to go, while Shubman Gill is already sitting on a pile of runs. The Indian Test captain has amassed close to 600 runs in four innings, averaging 146.25. After getting a century in Leeds, Gill hammered 269 in the first innings of the second Test and followed it up with a 161-ball 162 in the second. His heroics, along with Akash Deep's 10-wicket haul, helped India clinch a series-levelling 336-run win – their first-ever at Edgbaston 19 attempts. Captain Gill's outstanding knocks in England have been garnering praise from the legends of the game. The latest one to join the bandwagon is former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Speaking to Revsportz, Ganguly called it the best batting performance he has ever seen on English soil in the last three decades. 'Shubman is batting like a dream," said Ganguly. 'See my tweet and you will know. In my three decades of playing and watching cricket in the UK, this is one of the best exhibitions of batting that I have seen. He is simply flawless. There are no chinks in his armour and the English bowlers don't look like getting him out," he added. 'Gill isn't making a single mistake. He was always pleasing to the eye. And now he is showing the hunger and the temperament. If you see him now, you will be left wondering how can he have an average of less than 50 in Test cricket," Ganguly further stated. Gill is currently the top-scorer of the series with 585 runs in just two matches. He is just 18 runs short of becoming the most prolific Indian batter on an England tour in a single series, eyeing to shatter former captain Rahul Dravid's long-standing record of 602 runs – in the tour of 2002. Ganguly further highlighted that Gill did not stop at the century mark and kept at it, making it the most significant aspect of his batting. 'The best thing about Shubman in this series is the determination to go big. 'If you see, in every innings, he has gone big. A hundred isn't really enough. He wants to get the double hundred, and that's something fantastic to see," the former captain said. With the series now levelled 1-1, India and England will shift bases to London to play the third Test of the series at the home of cricket – Lord's. The match will begin on Thursday, July 10.
