President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Friday met with executives of the Kanadevia Corporation in Osaka, Japan for a waste-to-energy project in Manila.
''Masaya akong ibalita na katuwang natin ang Kanadevia Corporation ng Japan sa isang makasaysayang Waste-to-Energy project para sa Maynila,'' Marcos, who is in Japan for a working visit, said in a social media post.
(I'm happy to report that we are working with Kanadevia Corporation in Japan for a historic Waste-to-Energy project in Manila.)
''Sa proyektong ito, libo-libong tonelada ng basura ang gagawing malinis na enerhiya at makatutulong ito na mabawasan ang pagbaha, magbigay ng trabaho, at linisin ang ating mga komunidad,'' he added.
(In this project, tons of waste will be transformed to energy to help in addressing floods, providing jobs, and cleaning our communities.)
During the meeting, Kanadevia Corporation's investment plan for the Manila Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Project was tackled. The project will be done in partnership with the Phil. Ecology Systems Corp. (PhilEco), a major player in the design, construction, and operation of integrated sanitary solid waste management and disposal facilities in the Philippines.
Kanadevia Corporation specializes in environmental systems, including advanced WtE facilities, desalination plants and water treatment technologies.
The said firm was the Japanese proponent, co-investor and technology provider in the Manila WtE Project.
Further, Marcos also had a meeting with the executives of Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., ranked as among the world's top shipbuilders.
The company has been a key player in the international maritime industry since 1917, accounting for a significant share of the global market for medium-sized bulk carriers.
It is embarking on its fifth phase of expansion in its shipyard in Balamban, Cebu by investing in new capital equipment and enhancing research and development capabilities. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

Marcos launches P20 per kilo of rice in Bacoor, Cavite

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. watch as vendors at the Kadiwa ng Pangulo sell rice at P20 per kilo in Bacoor, Cavite on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. MPC Pool President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the launch of the P20 per kilo of rice in Bacoor, Cavite. Marcos witnessed the selling of rice with Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. at the Zapote Public Market. Those who can avail of the P20 per kilo of rice are those from the vulnerable sector, including beneficiaries of the 4Ps, senior citizens, persons with disability, and solo parents. Each buyer can avail of five to 10 kilos of rice. The President earlier explained why it took time for him to fulfill his campaign promise of P20 per kilo of rice, noting that the government needs to provide assistance first to the local farmers, including the provision of machinery. The Department of Agriculture (DA) initially implemented the sale of rice at P20 per kilo in the Visayas region. According to the DA, Marcos wants it to be implemented across the country in the long run. The second phase, which will commence this month, will be in the Mindanao region. The rice sold in Kadiwa centers is subsidized by the government through the Food Terminal Inc. The DA is aiming to sustain the program until the end of Marcos' term in June 2028, potentially covering up to 15 million households, or approximately 60 million Filipinos. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Marcos to study if legislated wage hike will result in layoffs — Palace

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will study if a legislated wage hike would result in layoffs, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Tuesday. ''Muli, pag-aaralan ito kung kakayanin ba talaga, kasi kung magdudulot naman ito ng lay-off dahil hindi kakayanin nung karamihan maliliit na mga negosyante, mas marami pong mahihirapang mga manggagawa dahil baka mawalan sila ng trabaho,'' Castro said at a briefing. (Again, he will study if this will result in layoffs if this can't be enforced by small businessmen, many workers might suffer as they may lose their jobs.) ''Kaya po itong lahat ng ito ay pag-aaralan, para sa ikabubuti po ng lahat,'' she added. (All of these will be studied for the benefit of all.) The proposed legislated minimum wage hike in the 19th Congress, which was pegged at P200 at the House and P100 in the Senate, did not pass into law because the two chambers of Congress failed to reconcile them on time. The bill then needs to be refiled in the 20th Congress. At least 1.2 million minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region (NCR) are set to receive higher salaries next month after the regional wage board approved a P50 increase in the daily minimum wage. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced that the NCR Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) issued Wage Order No. 26, which grants a P50 wage hike. The National Wages and Productivity Commission said the wage hike is equivalent to an increase of P1,100 per month for a five-day workweek, and P1,300 for a six-day workweek. Under the new rate, non-agriculture workers will have a monthly take-home pay of about P15,247 to P18,216 for a five-day and six-day workweek, respectively, inclusive of mandatory social welfare benefits such as 13th month pay, service incentive leave, SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
