And the star watched on from the sidelines as they beat National League outfit Carlisle 4-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at their Darsley Park training ground on Saturday, with
Murphy, the man who Elanga will be in direct competition with for the right-wing spot, wasted little time in showing he is up for the battle.
A long-ranger from Sean Longstaff gave Toon the advantage at the break before Joelinton made it two.
Murphy then got his name on the scoresheet, rounding the goalkeeper and a couple of defenders following Harvey Barnes' cutback.

And not just content with a goal, the 30-year-old turned provider as his cross was backheeled home by Ben Parkinson to finish the rout.
Murphy enjoyed his best campaign at the club last term, scoring seven goals and producing nine assists.
Eight of them were for hotshot striker Alexander Isak - someone that his new rival Elanga cannot wait to link up with having done so already numerous times for Sweden.
The 23-year-old ex-Manchester United ace said: 'It's someone I know really well on and off the pitch.

'Being able to play at club level will make things a lot better. We'll be able to improve our connection even more. So it's exciting, and not just with Alex, but all around the team.
'The likes of Harvey, of Jacob, who's done fantastic last season, everyone in midfield and defence all played a part to make sure this team got to the Champions League.

'That was the goal last season and they managed to achieve it. Each and every single one of them played a huge part and I'm just looking forward to playing with everyone.'
Most of Elanga's new team-mates returned to start pre-season training on Monday.
However, others such as Isak and Tino Livramento are expected to return this week having been given extra time off due to international duty.
Elanga looks set to get his first run-out in black and white next weekend when Newcastle travel to Parkhead to face Celtic.

They then jet out to Singapore to take on Arsenal in a friendly before flying to South Korea to take on a K-League XI and then Tottenham.
Elanga should then get his first taste of St. James' Park as a home player as Toon conclude their pre-season with home matches against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid before kicking off the Premier League campaign at Aston Villa on August 16.

Liverpool pay emotional tribute to Diogo Jota at Preston friendly
For seven minutes after the final whistle, Liverpool players and staff stood in front of their supporters at Preston as they chanted Diogo Jota's name. Sunday's pre-season friendly at Deepdale was originally envisaged as a day to kick-start preparations for Liverpool's Premier League title defence, but it played out as a memorial service for Jota and his brother Andre Silva, 10 days after they died in a car accident in Spain.

All-Ireland final will be a blockbuster clash of styles
So that's that. In hindsight was it ever going to be any different? Jim McGuinness's second year after what they done last year - well sure an All-Ireland final was always on the cards. And when the rules are changed to makes sure traditional football comes back, who is going to be their dancing partner but Kerry? It was so obvious you would wonder what we were talking about for so long! Donegal and Kerry land into the final with as dominant a run-ins from the quarter-final as any teams in years. Against Monaghan and Meath, Donegal displayed their full array. Organised, zonal defence, patient methodical attack that compliments their ultra-fast counter-attacks perfectly and most emphatically, the coolest, most game-aware heads around. In both matches for brief periods they were in difficulty, particular on the kickout, but they absorbed, adapted and moved on with minimal fuss. Simple scores are their gospel. It's one Jim Gavin's Dublin would recognise well. Keep that scoreboard ticking. That exact philosophy had them walking away with the National League until they took their foot of the gas to avoid a final that wasn't part of Jimmy's plans. The All-Ireland decider was very much in his plans. The foot will be to the floor now to land their third and give McGuinness's second coming the ultimate fairytale ending. As for Kerry, they blew Armagh away with the most awesome display of football for 15 minutes and all the questions coming into the semi-final was around whether they'd be able to reach that peak again, or had it been merely a freak Armagh collapse. In the end, while they didn't hit that sheer peak, in many ways their win over Tyrone was even more impressive. They were ruthless in the tackle and up front David Clifford was a man apart. Body language can be put on, they say fake it till you make it after all, but there is little doubt that the Fossa legend is in the form of his life. The aggression and passion with which he is playing and with which he is engaging with the Kerry support is like something I've never seen before. It's as if he has decided himself that he will drag his team to the title himself if that's what it takes. But of course, it's not completely a one-man show. They have many other key players in good form, notably the likes of Joe O'Connor, Paudie Clifford, Gavin White and Seanie O'Shea. Even the unsung Graham O'Sullivan's role at wing half-forward is key but lost in the large, dark shadow cast from their shining star Clifford. There will be plenty to chew on over the next two weeks. Unequivocally, the final pits the two top teams in the country against each other. What is so brilliant is the degree of contrast in their styles. Donegal have stuck their colours on the zonal defensive mass. Large numbers of Donegal shirts will be back inside the arc with or without any opposition players near them. They then try to move and cover the holes and gaps at the sides and by in large have done this well. Meath were incapable of doing it. Monaghan had more success but, in the end, didn't have the fire power to do the damage the might have and the staying power to stick with Donegal to the end. Kerry should have both. Kerry's attack, make no bones about it, is hung on David Clifford. Are there others to do damage? Of course there are. Ask Armagh. But still Clifford is the key. At the weekend he was as close to unmarkable as I've seen any player for a generation. Pace, power, guile and as fine of close skills as you'll get. Armagh's decision to shut that avenue down above all else looked wrong when Seanie O'Shea turned on a masterclass. It didn't look wrong after the Tyrone game. Can Donegal's zonal defence achieve both? Kickouts and midfield dominance will again garner much attention in the build-up. My first reckoning is that Donegal have a significant advantage here. Tyrone after all won 11 of Kerry's kickouts. That's a huge return, but they only got two points off them. Tyrone have a tendency towards slower attacks. Donegal do to but they will ruthlessly go hard and fast when the opportunity presents. Winning opposition kickouts is one such moment for them. If they do the same damage as Tyrone did on the Kerry kickout (and I would suggest Donegal are stronger again in this area) then I would expect them to come away with much greater reward on the scoreboard. No doubt I'll sit and rewatch a few games to refine my thinking on the above. I'll listen to a few podcasts, read newspaper articles and chat to many football people over the coming weeks too. By then I'm sure I'll know who's going to win. Might just stay quiet though. Much easier to appear very wise after the event. But here's to two weeks of wasted energy.

Chelsea 3 PSG 0: Cole Palmer produces three moments of magic as Blues destroy European champions to win Club World Cup

Two magical goals and an equally masterful assist had victory in the bag for Big Bad Don was watching from under cover in the VIP section of the Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. Not a traditional football venue but one that will host next summer's World Cup Final. Few without an allegiance to Stamford Bridge will have been rooting for Palmer in blue here yesterday afternoon - but think ahead to July 19 next year when he may well be doing it in the white of England. READ MORE FOOTBALL NEWS It's a tantalising image even if we must keep a little calm and remember this is a glorified summer kickabout dreamed up by Fifa boss Nonetheless, poster boy Palmer has adorned every advertising hoarding, social media meme and electronic billboard these past four weeks. And like a true star he kept his audience waiting until the very end for the piece de resistance to his magical show. Two classy goals and an artistic assist had European champions Paris Saint-Germain beaten not long after the first mandatory hydration break as they are referred to here in the sweltering suburbs of New York. The talk was of two, three, four nil to Luis Enrique's rampant Champions League winners early doors. But for all their undoubted talent, they clearly aren't very clever. Palmer had made it patently obvious where he was going to be shooting at. Much like Trump did with Iran. They can't say they weren't warned. After only eight minutes Chelsea's most naturally gifted player shaved Gianluigi Donnarumma's right hand with a left foot curler. Just fourteen minutes later he found the net for the first time from the same spot. The only difference? He went low instead of high. Is it really so easy to bamboozle the runaway champions of Europe? Because another eight minutes on and he did it again. The lofted ball out of defence by 21 21 21 Palmer's top and check on the 18 yard line was the stuff of instinct. Up there with Lionel Messi. It was enough to put defender Lucas Beraldo on his backside and Palmer chose the same place to plunder number two. And with three minutes to go until half time, he showed the confidence to exquisitely chip the PSG defence. The kind of weighted lob that a golfer like Trump would have appreciated. The Club World Cup has been something of a political plaything. Infantino was purring that having rented office space at Trump Towers in Manhattan this week, his new bestie was coming along to watch the soccer as they call it over here. But after this masterclass from a young bloke of few words who does all the talking in shorts and boots, there is an argument for who is the most powerful man in the world. Palmer played his part in a supreme and unlikely team effort that upset the odds. Keeper Robert Sanchez stepped up when required with some cracking saves - all in-front of Coldplay, who performed during the very American half-time show. 21 Chris Martin's Coldplay made a shock appearance at the half-time show Credit: Reuters 21 Coldplay performed mega hit 'A Sky Full of Stars' Credit: Reuters 21 Balvin performs during the half time show Credit: Reuters PSG made it even harder for themselves to mount a comeback when João Neves was sent off for pulling the hair of Marc Cucurella. But now They were only the fourth best team in England last season, so Liverpool, Arsenal and They were invited along for having won the Champions League four years ago. The season before last they weren't in Europe at all. They have blown more than a billion quid on players and at Christmas time they lost to Ipswich. Now the boys from Kings Road in London are kings of the world and a handy £97 million better off. And even Donald Trump knows who Cole Palmer is. 21 21
