Training session on e-procurement system
According to the PITB on Friday, the session aimed to build capacity among government officials and ensure the smooth adoption of the e-procurement system which is being implemented across Punjab to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in public procurement.
PPRA Managing Director Waqar Azim provided a detailed overview of the legal and regulatory framework governing public procurement in Punjab. The PITB's e-procurement team conducted hands-on training across various modules of the system and actively engaged participants through interactive question-and-answer sessions and feedback collection.
The e-procurement system, developed by PITB, leverages modern technology to facilitate secure, paperless and efficient procurement. It allows vendors from across the province and beyond to submit bids online, eliminating geographical barriers and streamlining the entire procurement cycle.
In this regard, PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf said the digitisation of public procurement is a transformative step towards good governance. 'The PITB's e-procurement system brings efficiency, fairness, and accountability into government purchasing processes.
Through such training sessions, we aim to ensure seamless adoption of the system across Punjab and empower officials with the tools they need to lead the shift to digital governance,' he added.

CDA announces digitalisation of its services
ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday announced digitalisation of its services and adoption of a cashless payment system for property tax, water charges, transfer fees, and other services. According to details, citizens will soon be able to access all CDA services from home through online portals, saving time and resources. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chairman CDA, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and Director General Civil Defence Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters. Members of the CDA Board participated in the meeting, while Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), Faisal Yousaf, joined along with his team via Zoom. The meeting focused on modernising the CDA One Window Facilitation Centre, introducing digital submission of maps and layout plans, and integrating a cashless online payment system. It was emphasised that these reforms would enhance transparency, ensure efficient service delivery, and significantly reduce public inconvenience. Officials informed the meeting that the CDA has already initiated the computerisation of land records and is transitioning its financial system from manual to digital. These efforts are yielding positive outcomes and are part of the broader shift toward e-governance and good governance. The PITB briefed the CDA on its experience with various IT and digitalisation initiatives in Punjab. It was agreed that PITB's expertise could assist in implementing similar models in Islamabad to improve public access to CDA services. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa reaffirmed the authority's commitment to transforming CDA into a model institution through digital innovation. He stressed simplifying procedures for the public and ensuring the integration of online payments under a cashless system. He also directed the CDA's IT Wing and senior officers to coordinate closely with PITB for joint execution of mutually beneficial projects. The meeting further decided to modernize the monitoring and evaluation mechanism of all CDA formations through a digital dashboard to ensure timely achievement of targets. It was agreed that officials from CDA and PITB will continue consultations through regular Zoom meetings to exchange ideas and finalise actionable recommendations, which will be presented for approval by the CDA Board. Additionally, it was announced that CDA will hold regular follow-up meetings, chaired by its chairman, to review progress on digitalisation and ensure all initiatives reach their logical conclusion. CBD introduces smart pedestrian crossing system
LAHORE: Central Business District (CBD Punjab) has introduced a cutting-edge smart pedestrian crossing system on CBD Route 47, reaffirming its commitment to modernise Lahore's urban infrastructure and prioritise public safety through walkable urbanism. Two smart pedestrian crossings have been strategically installed on the route, featuring international-standard technology selected after extensive research by the CBD Punjab technical team. Each crossing is equipped with automated pedestrian signals, a user-friendly push-button mechanism, and brick-embedded lights to ensure optimal visibility and safety, especially during low-light hours. In addition, each smart pedestrian crossing is equipped with digital screen panels that display awareness messages, Islamic quotes, sayings of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and important traffic safety guidelines for both pedestrians and motorists. These screens also provide real-time updates on temperature and time, adding a modern and informative feature to the system. The embedded lights are engineered for long-term durability, being fully waterproof and capable of withstanding up to 50 tons of weight. This integration of strength and innovation ensures that the crossings remain functional and safe in all conditions. Functionally, the system allows pedestrians to activate a red signal for vehicles by pressing a button, offering a 30-second window to cross safely. A 60-second interval between activations is programmed to maintain smooth vehicular flow on the busy corridor. In addition to the crossings, CBD Punjab has also implemented speed rudders, digital speed meters and visible speed limit signage to regulate traffic and enhance overall road discipline. KU awards professor emeritus title to Prof Saify
KARACHI: The Syndicate of the University of Karachi awarded the professor emeritus title to the KU's former vice chancellor Professor Dr Zafar Saeed Saify. The decision was made in light of the newly introduced policy of the Higher Education Commission Islamabad, and in recognition of his contribution to teaching, research, and academic leadership at the University of Karachi. The KU Syndicate meeting was chaired by the KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, and held at the VC Secretariat. The Syndicate formally approved the HEC Islamabad policy for the appointment of 'Professor of Practice'. The meeting approved the decision to remove from service of assistant professor Muhammad Zahid Farhad from department of applied chemistry and assistant professor Dr Lubna Mobin from department of food science and technology, based on the findings from inquiry reports. The members also approved the decision of financial recovery from both assistant professors. A four-member committee has been established to draft a working paper on employee grade upgrades based on educational qualifications and promotion protocols. The committee is headed by Professor Dr Haris Shoaib and includes Professor Dr Solaha Rahman, Director of Finance Syed Jehanzeb, and Dr Muhammad Hassan Auj. The committee will present its findings in the upcoming Syndicate meeting. The participants of the meeting also approved the minutes and implementation report of resolutions from the Syndicate meeting dated April 17, 2025, and minutes of the Selection Board meetings held on June 17 and 18, 2025, were also endorsed.
