Bindu's daughter admitted again to Kottayam MCH for treatment
District collector John V Samuel visited her in the morning.
She was admitted to the casualty wing CS4 ward of the hospital. The district collector was accompanied by medical college principal Dr Varghese P Punnose and superintendent Dr T K Jayakumar. Samuel told Navami's relatives that all treatment facilities were assured by the govt. The collector also spoke with Navami's relative, Divya.
Navami was admitted to the MCH on July 1 for surgery.
She was accompanied by her parents Visruthan and Bindu and Divya, who is the daughter of Bindu's sister, Renuka. Bindu was killed in the building collapse on July 3. Navami was brought back home that evening.
Ports minister V N Vasavan also visited Navami at the hospital on Monday.
Protests continue across state
Meanwhile, a march taken out by BJP to the general hospital demanding health minister Veena George's resignation turned violent in Alappuzha on Monday.
Two workers, including BJP central region president N Hari, were injured after the workers clashed with police.
The march, which started from BJP district committee office, was stopped by police by putting up barricades in front of the hospital. The workers, including women, jumped over the barricades and entered the hospital compound. Violence erupted as police tried to forcibly remove the workers. More force arrived, and the workers were removed from the place.
In Kozhikode, the Youth Congress protest march to the district collectorate demanding the resignation of Veena turned tense with protesters clashing with police and blocking the national highway. The march was inaugurated near the civil station by DCC president K Praveen Kumar.
He alleged that the Congress will not rest until Veena resigns and held her primarily responsible for the issues plaguing the Kozhikode medical college as well.
Tension escalated when protesters attempted to breach police barricades, leading to a scuffle. The agitators then vandalized a flex board near the civil station bearing the image of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. As the situation intensified, police deployed water cannons to disperse the crowd.
Protesters who blocked the highway were taken into custody and removed by police.
Compound wall collapse at Koz MCH
Meanwhile, a portion of the compound wall of Kozhikode govt medical college collapsed on Monday night.
The laterite wall, which was built decades ago, near dental college collapsed and fell onto the main road side. No one was injured in the incident but two vehicles parked nearby sustained minor damage. Locals said they had been raising the danger posed by the old wall but no action was taken.

WHEN THE BJP can resolve all difficult issues – be it Article 370 or building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya – what is holding it back from providing Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation to the Nishad community, the ruling party's ally and Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad told The Indian Express. The state Fisheries Minister, who is also the NISHAD Party chief, said the BJP should fulfil the long-pending demand soon or it may face 'difficulties' in the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Nishads, a boating and fishing community, are currently counted among the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the state. 'The thing is that the BJP has found solutions to all difficult issues, be it Article 370 or 10 per cent upper caste reservation (for the economically backward in general category) even when it was not promised in the Constitution, women reservation and even on the topic of faith i.e. construction of Ram Temple. So what is keeping it from fulfilling its promise to the fishermen community?' said Nishad. The minister said the BJP had promised SC reservation to Nishad sub-castes because of which he aligned with it but now it is becoming difficult for him to convince his community about the long delay despite being in the government. 'We are only part of the government, that is all. Actual decision-making lies with the BJP, which had come out with its separate vision for the Nishad community…,' he said. 'BJP yahi kehke layi thi, SP aur BSP ne galat kiya. Par jo Bhagwan ko paar utarne wale hain, weh apna hissa mang rahe hain. Hum jawab nahin de pa rahe hain (The BJP had brought us along saying that the SP and BSP did wrong. But now the community which helped Lord [Ram] is asking for its rights, and we are unable to answer them),' said Nishad, who has for long been raising the demand for SC reservation for 17 sub-castes of the community. The delay in giving SC quota to the Nishads, Sanjay Nishad said, had resulted in the shifting of votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as the community fell for the 'false promises of the SP'. And if this continued, it would make things difficult for the BJP and allies in the next Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, he said. 'The Nishad community constitutes 18 per cent of Uttar Pradesh. They voted for us in 2019 on this promise. But in 2024, the INDIA bloc was able to take their votes with false promises and if this continues then the community would distance itself,' he said. 'BJP jaldi ise door kare nahi to 2027 mein mushkil ho sakta hai (The BJP should resolve this soon or there might be difficulties in 2027).' In the 2022 Assembly elections, the NISHAD party, in alliance with BJP, was able to win six Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh but failed to win a single seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Nishad community is primarily found in regions alongside rivers, especially in eastern and central Uttar Pradesh, including areas surrounding Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, and Varanasi, among others.

Edappadi K Palaniswami kicks off AIADMK campaign for 2026 polls
COIMBATORE: AIADMK general secretary and leader of opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday kick-started his campaign for the 2026 Assembly election from Coimbatore by challenging the DMK's main criticism of his party's alliance with the BJP. Pointing to the DMK's past alliances with the BJP (in 1999 and 2001), he asked how the national party was considered good when it suited the DMK and communal when AIADMK made an alliance with it and said the alliance was forged to defeat the enemy. Beginning his campaign — 'Let's Protect the People, Let's Save Tamil Nadu' — well ahead of his rivals after offering prayers at the Vanabadrakali Amman temple at Mettupalayam, he took part in a roadshow on the Mettupalayam to Ooty road. Then he addressed a public meeting alongside BJP state president Nainar Nagenthiran, Minister of State for Information Broadcasting L Murugan, and former AIADMK minister SP Velumani, at Mettupalayam bus stand. HC reserves orders on 9 writs seeking judicial probe into Group-1 exams
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court single bench of Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao on Monday 'reserved orders' on nine writs filed by unsuccessful candidates, who were unable to get a rank in the Group-1 Main exam, seeking a direction to order a judicial probe into the entire selection process. The judge heard nine writs filed by Parmesh Matta and others. Vidya Sagar, KS Murthy and Rachna, senior counsels argued for the petitioners and sought judicial intervention into the action of the TGPSC in conducting the most coveted Group-1 competitive examination in the most haphazard manner, alleging massive illegalities and in sheer violation of rules. Vidya Sagar contended that the TGPSC had not conducted the exam in a fair and transparent manner because, any constitutional body, which holds a competitive exam, first and foremost, notifies each instruction by way of a Gazette.. unless this process is done, a statutory body cannot hold an exam , but here in this case, the TGPSC didn't speak about three rounds of evaluation, moderation method, re-evaluation, which itself speaks about the haphazard manner of conducting the exam. Rachna, in the last hearing, contended that the TGPSC had informed the court it had grossly erred in issuing two hall-ticket numbers to candidates. This had created confusion among the candidates, who got selected in the Preliminary. Moreover, unqualified evaluators had corrected the answer papers of the candidates, who wrote the exam in 'Telugu medium' because of which there is a huge variation in the pass percentage between the candidates, who appeared in English and Telugu--English medium 30% and Telugu medium 18%. This action of TGPSC was to demean the Telugu candidates. The biometrics system was not properly used… the contention of the TGPSC that all CCTV cameras installed at the exam centres had a centralised surveillance system was a suspecting aspect. Criminal petition filed by CM seeking quash of proceedings in pvt complaint; reserved for orders The HC bench of Justice Kunuru Lakshman on Monday 'reserved orders' on the criminal petition filed by CM A Revanth Reddy, seeking quash of proceedings registered before the Principal Special Judicial First Class Magistrate for Excise Cases, Hyderabad, which emanated from a private complaint filed by Kasam Venkateswarlu, State general secretary, BJP from Nalgonda. Reddy at a public meeting (election campaign-2024) 'Jana Jatara Sabha' on May 5 at Prakasam Stadium, Kothagudem, stated that if the BJP comes to power, it will scrap the SC, ST and BC reservations. During the hearing, T Niranjan Reddy, senior counsel appearing for CM, had vehemently opposed contentions of counsel for the petitioner, contending the complaint filed before the lower court was not maintainable and should be dismissed; Venkateshwarulu was not eligible to file the complaint on ground BJP, being a national party, had not given its consent. The counsel for the petitioner had not furnished any document/ letter received from the top BJP brass, giving consent. There is no official communique/no authorisation from the BJP high command directing Venkateshwarlu to file the complaint. Reddy's speech was purely political; political speeches/ statements cannot be construed as defamatory because delivering a political speech is right to freedom under Article 19, which gives freedom of speech to a citizen. The judge reserved orders while hearing the petition filed by CM seeking quash of proceedings in CC 312/2024 U/s. 499 IPC and Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act, before the PSJFCM for Excise Cases. *Notice issued to State: PIL to protect 2-acre govt land in Hyderguda from encroachment The HC division bench of Acting CJ Sujoy Paul & Justice Renuka Yara on Monday issued notices to the Principal Secretary (revenue), Ranga Reddy district collector, GHMC commissioner, RDO and tahsildar Rajenderanagar, directing them to respond on encroachment of two acres of government land in survey no 7 of Upperpally, Hyderguda, Rajendranagar mandal, RR district and file counters within two weeks. During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner P Sridhar Reddy, president, Erraboda Weaker Section Colony Welfare Association, Rajendranagar, had informed, despite his repeated representations to the collector apprising him of encroachment and constructions on government land, there was no response. He further contended miscreants were raising huge sheds on the land with a motive of knocking away the land illegally. The petitioner further said there was another attempt of encroaching government land of 1,200 square yards in the same survey no by creating forged and fabricated documents. The miscreants had constructed a compound wall with a room, which was also complained to the Revenue officials. All pleadings of the petitioner and others had gone in vain. The judge heard PIL filed by the Erraboda Weaker Section Colony Welfare Association, represented by its president P Sridhar Reddy, Rajendranagar mandal, seeking directions to the Principal Secretary (Revenue), RR collector, RDO and tahsildar, Rajendranagar, and GHMC commissioner to protect the government land from encroachment. Hearing in the case was adjourned by two weeks directing the government to file counter.
