Julie Bowen Shocked When Cast In Happy Gilmore 2

Julie Bowen Shocked When Cast In Happy Gilmore 2

Buzz Feed02-06-2025
Almost 30 years after Happy Gilmore premiered, news broke this weekend that the upcoming sequel is set to drop on Netflix on July 25.
Of course, Adam Sandler plays the titular Happy in the fan-favourite comedy alongside Julie Bowen, who plays his love interest, Virginia Venit.
While discussing the upcoming sequel, Julie, now 55, admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that she was totally shocked when she was asked to reprise her role.
'I thought, 'Well, I won't be in it,'' she said as she recalled first finding out that a sequel was being made. 'And that was OK — it was like Virginia Venit, it's been 30 years, he's got a hottie. He's got some little bitty on the side, like a cart girl,' she said, describing her assumptions of the kind of love interest Adam's character would have.
'As a matter of fact, my children told me, before I was even told officially that there was a Happy Gilmore sequel, my now 18-year-old said, 'Mom, I hear they're doing a sequel and he's with Sydney Sweeney as a cart girl,'' the Modern Family star shared.
'I went, I'm hurt, and I so respect that move. Of course, why wouldn't you? So when I got the call that I was actually in it, I was like, 'Are you sure? Come on,'' she added.
Reacting to Julie's candid comments, several internet users couldn't help but comment on how 'sad' it is that she expected to not be cast because of her age.
'It's sad that this is the expectation, but it is realistic,' one person wrote. 'The way we all accept and internalize the discarding of older women is truly wild,' said another.
Meanwhile, more fans went on to point out that Adam is known to cast his friends in multiple movies. He's also known to cast on-screen love interests who are of a similar age to him, with some notable examples including Drew Barrymore, 50, Jennifer Aniston, 56, and Bridgette Wilson, 51.

Justin Thomas Drops 'Bad News' About Scottie Scheffler's 'Happy Gilmore 2' Performance

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After nearly three decades, Happy Gilmore is back on screens. The new sequel, "Happy Gilmore 2," premiered globally last week on Netflix and reunites Adam Sandler with his cult-favorite golf character and features a star-studded cast of athletes and celebrities. From PGA Tour legends to LPGA, NFL and LIV Golf pros, the film has quickly become the most talked-about sports comedy of the year. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JULY 21: (L-R) Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Conor Sherry, Phillip Schneider, Bad Bunny, Ethan Cutkosky, Adam Sandler, Kyle Newacheck, Jackie Sandler, John Daly, Sunny Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Sadie Sandler, Fernando Marrero, Lavell Crawford, Julie Bowen, Benny Safdie, Bryson DeChambeau, Oliver Hudson, Scottie Scheffler, Dan Lin, Haley Joel Osment, Jason Young, Ted Sarandos, Joseph Vecsey, Robert Simonds and Bela Bajaria attend the Happy Gilmore 2 World Premiere at Jazz at Lincoln Center on July 21, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/for Netflix) More Getty Images But while fans are still laughing at the slapstick chaos and nostalgic callbacks, Justin Thomas had a different kind of reaction -- one that came with a wink and a warning. "I've got some good news and bad news," Thomas typed on Instagram on Sunday. "The good news is I actually think the golfers did pretty well in HG2! Bad news... it appears @ won again. The guy can't miss right now 😂 @netflix" The PGA Tour pro posted the caption alongside a behind-the-scenes clip from the film's shoot. The video featured cameos from Rory McIlroy, Nelly Korda, Bryson DeChambeau and Paige Spiranac, among others. But the spotlight, once again, fell on Scheffler, who, true to form, stole the show. What's Scottie Scheffler's role in Happy Gilmore 2? Scheffler plays a fictionalized version of himself. The two-time Masters winner plays a recurring role in the second half of the film than in the first half. In a comedic exchange, Scheffler asks Sandler's character how to handle physical confrontations on the golf course, poking fun at his own calm reputation in contrast to Happy's notorious hot-headedness. After getting provoked by rival golfer Harley (played by Oliver Hudson), Scheffler throws a textbook hockey-style punch, gets disqualified, and is promptly arrested. "Not again," he quips, referencing his real-life arrest last year amid the PGA Championship in Louisville. And yes, the film goes there. In one of the movie's biggest twists, Scheffler's character ends up getting arrested mid-tournament and tossed into jail. His final scene has him slumped in a jail cell, watching Happy win on a tiny TV screen while fellow inmates cheer. The timing of Scheffler's comedic moment couldn't be more thrilling. Just last week, the World No. 1 clinched his third leg of the career Grand Slam at the 153rd Open Championship, Royal Portrush, finishing 17-under-par with a four-shot victory. (Image Credits: Getty Images) Getty Images It was his fourth major title, placing him alongside legends like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player as players who won the Masters, PGA Championship and Open Championship before turning 30. Thomas's "bad news" jab was clearly tongue-in-cheek, but it echoed a growing sentiment on Tour that Scheffler is in a league of his own. And who knows, as the wind around the golf world says, he is the next Woods. The cast of "Happy Gilmore 2" is a blend of old favorites and new faces. Returning stars included Sandler as Happy Gilmore, Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Ben Stiller as Hal L. While the new additions has Bad Bunny as Oscar Mejías (Happy's caddie), Travis Kelce, Eminem, Post Malone and Spiranac. Additionally, golfers like McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, DeChambeau, Will Zalatoris and Thomas himself. More Golf: Min Woo Lee Cooking With Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner During Tour Break

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2: Release date, cast updates and what to expect next

By Aman Shukla Published on July 28, 2025, 18:00 IST Last updated July 28, 2025, 18:09 IST Hell's Kitchen is about to get even hotter. Daredevil: Born Again is officially coming back for Season 2, and after that cliffhanger-packed Season 1 finale, fans are dying to see what's next. With more action, deeper drama, and a few surprise faces along the way, Marvel's street-level saga is ramping up to deliver another knockout season. Here's everything we know so far—from when it's dropping to who's back (and who's new), plus a look at what might be coming in Matt Murdock's next gritty chapter. When Is Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Coming Out? Mark your calendars— Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is slated to premiere on Disney+ in March 2026. That's a quick turnaround from Season 1's March 2025 debut, keeping fans hooked without the usual long wait. Production wrapped in July 2025 after kicking off in February, promising a tight eight-episode run packed with intense drama. Unlike Season 1's nine episodes, this season trims one episode but doubles down on stakes, with whispers of a darker, more thrilling story. Who's Back in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Cast? Season 2 is bringing back most of the fan-favorite cast, plus some fresh blood to shake things up in Hell's Kitchen. Returning Faces: Charlie Cox is back as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, now rocking a sleek black suit straight out of the 'Shadowland' comics. He's hinted this season contains some of his favorite Daredevil scripts yet. Vincent D'Onofrio returns as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin—now the mayor of New York and more dangerous than ever. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Karen Page. This time, she's got a bold red wig and an expanded arc that fans are buzzing about. Elden Henson is also back as Foggy Nelson. Yes, even after what happened in Season 1—he's expected to appear through emotional flashbacks. Wilson Bethel's Bullseye is back, now fully suited up with the iconic target logo. He's unstable, deadly, and definitely not done causing chaos. Ayelet Zurer returns as Vanessa Fisk, putting any recasting rumors to rest. Her dynamic with Kingpin looks like it'll get even more complex. You'll also see Margarita Levieva, Nikki M. James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson , and Michael Gandolfini back in their roles, continuing the grounded, street-level stories. Jon Bernthal's Punisher shows up too, though in a smaller role, possibly as a lead-in to a spin-off special. And the big surprise? Krysten Ritter is back as Jessica Jones , officially folding her Netflix antihero into the Disney+ Marvel universe. Royce Johnson and Susan Varon , familiar faces from the Netflix era, are also back—helping keep that gritty tone fans loved. Camila Rodriguez is appearing as Angela del Toro, niece of the original White Tiger. Expect some vigilante legacy threads. Newcomers: Matthew Lillard joins the show in a morally complex role that's still under wraps. Based on his past work, expect something unpredictable. Lili Taylor plays the Governor of New York and a major political threat to Fisk—yes, things are getting political. Sydney Parra, Annie Parisse, and James Armstrong have all been spotted on set, though their roles are still a mystery. What Can Fans Expect from Season 2? Season 2 picks up right after Fisk's power play at the end of Season 1, with New York under martial law thanks to his Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Matt Murdock is fully embracing his Daredevil identity again—and this time, he's not holding back. Here's what's brewing: Daredevil vs Kingpin 2.0: This rivalry is now political, personal, and brutal. With Fisk in the mayor's seat, Matt is fighting not just crime, but the entire system. Bullseye Unleashed: Bethel's return means more chaos, and his upgraded comic-accurate suit suggests he's not just back—he's ready to wreak havoc. Jessica Jones x Daredevil: The crossover we didn't know we needed. Their personalities clash, but both have a deep respect for justice—expect tension, team-ups, and maybe a few philosophical fights. The 'Shadowland' Vibes: Matt's black suit and some cryptic comments from D'Onofrio have fans thinking we might see elements of the Shadowland storyline, where Daredevil wrestles with darker leadership—possibly even taking over The Hand. Political Intrigue Meets Street Brawls: With Lili Taylor's governor going toe-to-toe with Fisk and Lillard's mystery character stirring the pot, the show's scale is expanding without losing its street-level heart. Flashbacks and Heartbreak: Foggy's return—even if only in memories—promises to pack an emotional punch. Karen's arc will dig deeper into her resilience and relationship with Matt. And yes—this season isn't just setting up the next fight. Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum has teased long-term plans, even throwing around words like 'Season 3' and 'Season infinity.' So Daredevil's just getting started. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Watch Sofia Carson Fall In Love At Oxford In Her New Netflix Movie

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. For anyone who loves a good romance set against a picturesque backdrop, "My Oxford Year" might just be your next Netflix obsession. Starring Sofia Carson and "Queen Charlotte" star Corey Mylchreest, this new movie tells a story of love, ambition, and the detours that life sometimes throws our way. Directed by Iain Morris, best known for creating "The Inbetweeners," and based on Julia Whelan's bestselling novel, the movie hits Netflix on August 1 — and, given that this is a love story set in and around Oxford University, it's chock-a-block with literary references, heart-swelling moments, and storybook romance that will no doubt sweep viewers off their feet. "I chose not to visit all the locations where we would be filming, because I wanted to save my honest reaction to witnessing the magic of Oxford for the first time, for once the cameras were rolling," Carson tells Netflix's Tudum. "To truly experience Oxford just as Anna would." She continues: "Our story is a film that in every frame reaffirms the belief that life is too short to not live it in love. To not live it in joy." What To Expect From My Oxford Year On Netflix The story in "My Oxford Year" is focused on Anna (Carson), an American student who arrives at Oxford ready to take on a prestigious poetry program — and with her life seemingly mapped out ahead of her. That plan quickly veers off-course, however, when she meets Jamie (Mylchreest), a charming local who, as fate would have it, turns out to be her teaching assistant. Their relationship begins with a very British meet-cute involving a puddle and a runaway ex, but soon deepens into something more meaningful. Filming took place on location, and the iconic university setting plays a major role in the film's aesthetic. The film also stars Dougray Scott and Catherine McCormack as Jamie's parents, plus Harry Trevaldwyn, Esmé Kingdom, and Poppy Gilbert as Anna's Oxford crew. Everyone involved, from producers at Temple Hill (the team behind "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Twilight") to Carson's real-life mom Laura Char Carson (also an executive producer), worked to craft a story about the kind of love that leaves a mark — even if it doesn't last forever. Morris sums it up best: He says in his own Netflix interview that he hopes watching "My Oxford Year" will allow viewers to "run through all the emotions associated with the wonderful, noisy, chaotic, unexpected, funny, heartbreaking experience that is falling in love."
