The Impact Of Parasocial Relationships With Anthropomorphized AI

Earlier this week, RollingStone.com released a report detailing the debut of Grok's AI companions. According to this report, there's concern about an AI companion named Bad Rudy, who is described as vulgar and antagonizing, and an AI companion named Ani, who is described as willing to shed her clothing. Mental health professionals have long stated potential concerns about anthropomorphized AI, especially regarding their interactions with traditional-aged college students and emerging adults. A 2024 report by Psychology Today discussed the danger of dishonesty with anthropomorphized AI and defined anthropomorphized AI as including chatbots with human-like qualities that give the impression of having intellectual and emotional abilities that they don't actually possess. A mainstream example of such dishonesty is when AI bots create fake profiles on dating apps. As anthropomorphized AI become more sophisticated, there's concern that, many young adults won't be able to detect when they're not interacting with a human. This concern for dating apps is supported by a 2025 report on McAfee.com, suggesting that one out of three people could imagine being fooled by an Al bot while on dating apps, as well as a 2024 report on Pewresearch.org, suggesting that 53% of U.S. adults between 18 and 29 have used a dating site or app.
Parasocial Relationships With Anthropomorphized AI
A 2025 report on Forbes.com highlighted other concerns about artificial emotional attachments to AI companions, which generally related to the concept of parasocial relationships. A 2025 report by Psychology Today defines parasocial relationships as one-sided relationships in which a person develops a strong emotional connection, intimacy, or familiarity with someone they don't know, such as celebrities or media personalities. Children and younger individuals appear to be more susceptible to parasocial relationships, but these relationships can affect the behavior and beliefs of anyone. For example, many industries are intentional about cultivating parasocial relationships, such as professional sports leagues with their athletes, music companies with their artists, and even political parties with their candidates.
Because many anthropomorphized AI bots can interact directly with users, utilize algorithms of online behavior, and store sensitive information about users, the possibility for unhealthy parasocial relationships with AI is much higher than with commercial marketing. In 2024, the Association of Computing Machinery released a report which highlighted ethical concerns emerging from the parasociality of anthropomorphized AI. This report discussed the possibility of chatbots actually encouraging users to fill in the context of predictive outcomes. Thus, parasocial relationships with AI could result in some users being manipulated or encouraged to respond in predictable ways. This is consistent with a 2025 report on Times.com, which highlighted alarming conversations discovered by a psychiatrist posing as a young person while using AI chatbots.
Emerging Calls For Warning Labels On Anthropomorphized AI
In 2024, Techtarget.com, an online media platform dedicated to new technologies, released a state-by-state guide of AI laws in the United States, which revealed that some states have laws requiring users to be informed when interacting with AI systems. However, this guide acknowledged a lack of federal regulations, meaning that many AI companions can function without oversight or regulation. A 2025 report on Informationweek.com, an online media platform dedicated to IT professionals, summarized emerging calls for warning labels on AI content. According to this report, though there are considerations regarding the effectiveness and implementation of warning labels, there's agreement that future work needs to be done, such as for hyper-realistic images or when AI portrays a real person. Another 2025 report on Forbes.com argued that AI systems need accuracy indicators in addition to warning labels.
The Need To Assess For Parasocial Relationships
The impact of anthropomorphized AI on traditional-aged college students and emerging adults requires special consideration. This demographic is a primary stakeholder of digital apps, and many are using these apps while traying to establish romantic relationships, improve their academic performance, and develop foundational beliefs about the world. Not to mention that executive braining functioning is not fully developed during this time of the life span. As such, interactions with an anthropomorphized AI bots could be something that campus mental health professionals will start systematically assessing for.
Educating students about unhealthy parasocial relationships might also be a key variable in the future of college mental health. According to a 2025 report on DiggitMagainze.com, many college students address ChatGPT with conversational language and developed parasocial relationships with this advanced language model. According to this report, such a tendency creates a false sense of immediacy, which can have a negative impact of real social relationships. This report is alarming considering that ChatGpt is not promoted as having self-awareness or human-like features. Thus, the impact of anthropomorphized AI bots, especially those posing as humans, is likely to be much more significant.
Unlike their peers, AI provides students with constant availability and extensive knowledge about the world. Thus, it's tempting for many students to attempt to obtain social support and empathy from these AI systems. However, this undermines the importance of emotional reciprocity, delayed gratification, and decision-making skills, all of which are potential buffers for many mental health concerns.

All 26 Characters Featured in the Hall of Justice Mural in SUPERMAN Revealed — GeekTyrant

James Gunn has shared high-res images of the Hall of Justice mural from Superman , and it's packed with history. The stunning piece of art charts the entire legacy of metahumans in the DCU. Featuring 26 characters, the mural highlights figures with deep ties to modern-day heroes like Wonder Woman, Zatanna, and The Flash, offering fans a glimpse at how expansive this new cinematic universe could become. The hi-res shots of the mural come complete with a breakdown of every single character on it. Whether these names remain as Easter eggs or lay the foundation for future stories in Gunn's DCU remains a mystery for now. But if these characters represent the past of this shared world, there's a good chance some of them will eventually step into the spotlight. Sister Symmetry - a powerful sorceress who wields the Cloak of Cyra and is imbued with powers by the Lord of Order. Silent Knight - hailing from the 6th Century, the British hero is a master swordsman and thought to be a previous incarnation of Carter Hall/Hawkman and possibly even Clark Kent's distant ancestor. Exoristos - an exiled Amazon from Themyscira, she once wielded the sword eventually used by Wonder Woman. Black Pirate - a 16th-century do-gooder who previously appeared in The CW's Legends of Tomorrow , he fought the good fight on the high seas and was a member of the Five Warriors from Forever. Miss Liberty - a hero during the American Revolutionary War, she also served on the time-displaced Five Warriors from Forever team. Whip Whirlwind - better known as Max Mercury, the speedster was a hero during the Wild West, where he used his Flash-like abilities to protect Native Americans. Super Chief - an Iroquois warrior from the 15th century, his powers were granted by the Manitou Stone but only last for an hour at a time. Lazarus Lane - this Wild West-era hero was made the Spirit of Vengeance by the Wise Owl, and took on the moniker, El Diablo. However, the demon only takes over his body when he's asleep or unconscious. Chop-Chop - Wu Cheng is a young Chinese pilot who served in the Blackhawk Squadron during World War II. Ghost of Flanders - Rip Graves faked his death to become a superhero, becoming a masked crimefighter during World War II. Like G.I. Robot, he kills Nazis. Sandman - Not to be confused with the Neil Gaiman character, Wesley Dodds carries a Gas Gun into action and uses his prophetic dreams to help him figure out the crime scenes he encounters. Amazing Man - Will Everett served as this Golden Age vigilante during World War II, and gained powers after being kidnapped and experimented on by the Ultra-Humanite. He can now mimic and absorb any material. Zatara - Giovanni "John" Zatara is the father of Zatanna. Like his daughter, he casts spells by speaking backwards and was a key member of the Justice Society of America. Liberty Bell - another DC character who has had multiple characters hold the matter, she activated her powers by ringing the Liberty Bell. The Libby Lawrence version is the wife of Johnny Quick and Jesse Quick's mother. Bulletman - this World War II superhero used his Crime Cure serum to battle Nazis, and donned the Gravity Regulator Helmet to deflect bullets. Bulletgirl - Bulletman's wife had the same powers and gadgets as her husband. Max Mercury - This time-displaced speedster will be known best to many of you as the mentor of The Flash (Wally West) and Kid Flash (Bart Allen). TNT - Thomas N. "Tex" Thomas has radioactive powers that generate heat energy, which he used against the Nazis. He later joined the All-Star Squadron and Seven Soldiers of Victory. Dan the Dyna-mite - Tex's student got involved with his teacher's crime-fighting when he was exposed to the same experiment that granted TNT his abilities. Phantom Lady - this Golden Age Squadron member used her Black Light Ray to project black light, allowing her to create darkness and turn invisible. Atomic Knight - tasked with restoring peace and order, Gardner Grayle wore an experimental radiation-resistant armour in the post-apocalyptic world created by World War III. Freedom Beast - this South African superhero succeeded B'Wana Beast as the primary protector of African wildlife. He accesses The Red, a mystical force tied to Swamp Thing and Animal Man. Wildcat - Ted Grant was part of the Justice Society of America, and a former heavyweight boxing champion who moonlights as a superhero (his mystical "Nine Lives" makes him particularly durable). Vibe - this fan favourite Arrrowverse character was one of the first Latino superheroes, and uses vibrational manipulation to defeat his foes. Gunfire - able to turn anything into a gun, a Bloodlines Parasite granted Andrew Van Horn his impressive powers. Maxwell Lord - the founder of the DCU's Justice Gang doesn't have powers in the comics, but does this mural suggest he's a metahuman as well? Chances are, he just fancies himself as being worthy to stand alongside these great heroes. Which of these characters would you most like to see in the DCU?

This Mini PC (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) Was One of the Best Budget Picks, Now It Just Got Even Cheaper

The good folks in Cupertino who make the Mac Mini must feel a little put-upon these days. There have been swarms of rival mini PCs swooping in and undercutting the Mac Mini on price, and undercutting it by a lot. Here's the latest — the Kamrui GK3 Plus Mini PC that's rocking a tiny $150 price tag at Amazon. The selling points attached to that little price tag, which is 29% lower than its already-cheap $210 regular price, are many. Start with the Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake N95 processor that can hit up to a very competitive 3.4GHz, gigabit Ethernet, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of built-in storage, and fast WiFi and Bluetooth. Many of those benchmarks will fall short of the Mac Mini and other big-name compact desktops, but at this price? Not a chance. See at Amazon With the Kamrui GK3 Plus and most if not all other mini PCs and desktops, you provide your own monitor. But before you assume the only compatible monitors for a bargain-priced mini PC is a bargain-priced low-res monitor, you should know the Kamrui GK3 has a 1.20GHz Intel Graphics card and it can support three monitors in 4K resolution at 60GHz. Two HDMI ports and one VGA port team up with that Intel graphics card to turn the tiny Kamrui GK3 Plus into a multimedia superstar for streaming, 4K web surfing, and even some gaming. Even with three big 4K screens, none of that would be possible if the Kamrui cheaped out on its internet connections, but there's a gigabit Ethernet port for hardwired fast internet, dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), and Bluetooth 4.2, so despite being the size of an old-school modem, the Kamrui most definitely does not run at dialup speeds. The Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake N95 processor at the heart of the Kamrui GK3 Plus mini PC is a recent upgrade from the previous model, and moves along normally at a brisk 1.6GHz with the ability to max out at 3.4GHz, more than enough processing power for you to multitask and do anything you would do with a regular-sized and regular-priced PC. In addition to the HDMI and VGA ports there are also two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports capable of 10Gbps data transfer and two USB 2.0 ports that move at up to 480Mbps. The Kamrui GK3 Plus and it's palm-sized mini-PC brethren are not going to blow a Mac Mini out of the water. But they also won't get totally blown out of the water by a Mac Mini, and they'll save you hundreds of dollars. Amazon's 29% off deal on the Kamrui GK3 Plus mini PC is still live right now, and it may be the best $150 you spend all week. See at Amazon
