Big 12 reveals 2025-26 basketball schedule matrix featuring tough Colorado opponents
The Big 12 announced the conference scheduling matrix for the 2025-26 men's basketball season Thursday morning.
For the upcoming season, each program will have a home-and-home series with three conference opponents and face the other 12 Big 12 teams once, with six games at home and six on the road, for an 18-game Big 12 schedule, which is two fewer than last year.
The matrix produces the most balanced schedule, taking into account both travel and competitiveness. A schedule with dates and times will be announced closer to the start of the regular season.
Seven of Colorado's nine home opponents were postseason teams in 2024-25. The Buffs will host top programs like Arizona and Kansas a single time, while Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU and UCF will also make the trek to Boulder.
Colorado's home-and-home series opponents will be Arizona State, Utah and Texas Tech, who were Elite Eight participants last season.
The Buffs have some challenging Big 12 road games this year, traveling to BYU, who have the No. 1 overall recruit A.J. Dybansta and NCAA runner-up Houston. Single away games against Cincinnati, Baylor, West Virginia and Iowa State are also on the schedule.
While we are still a ways away from tipping off the college basketball season, if you're itching for some fun basketball content, you can check out our updated Big 12 basketball uniform rankings.

Big Ten Network personality Jake Butt picks teams for 2025 Big Ten title game
Another Big Ten football media days is in the books, and now we can focus our attention towards the start of fall camp and the buildup to the start of the 2025 college football season. Ohio State will be defending its College Football Playoff national championship and will look to add a couple of goals it missed out on last season -- winning the Big Ten and beating Michigan. That's not as easy as it used to be with the addition of former Pac-12 schools from the West Coast -- Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC-- and with Michigan and Penn State rising up to become national powers as well. The Big Ten has closed the gap on the SEC and created one of its own as the best conference in the country, and it should be another fantastic season in 2025. So, who has the advantage in making the Big Ten Championship game? Ohio State and Penn State are expected to be the best teams this year according to most of the media, but that's not what Jake Butt from the Big Ten Network thinks. In a segment on social media, Butt provided his picks for teams that will play in Indianapolis, and he omitted Ohio State, picking Penn State to tussle with Oregon instead. It's all opinion, of course, and it's not like the Ducks aren't a program to reckon with almost annually now, so there's that. But Butt not identifying his alma mater, Michigan or the Buckeyes, is an interesting take, especially considering Oregon lost as much talent as OSU. But never fear Ohio State fans, Butt did mention Ohio State as one of the teams that will contend for a College Football Playoff spot -- so there's at least that. Ohio State defending its title and having a shot at a conference crown will largely depend on the production it gets at the quarterback spot and how well the defense plugs some of those gaps lost to the NFL. It won't take long to see how those questions are answered because the Buckeyes open up against Texas in Week 1. Let the countdown continue. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin reveals his most anticipated training camp matchup
With the first week of Steelers training camp in the books, HC Mike Tomlin is excited for what lies ahead — particularly one matchup between an accomplished pass-catching running back and a great second-year linebacker. Following Sunday's practices at training camp, Tomlin shared which matchup he's looking forward to the most next week when pads come on — and it's the meeting of RB Kenneth Gainwell and LB Payton Wilson. "I like Kenny G versus Payton Wilson in routes," Tomlin told reporters. "Kenny G has shown a really good aptitude, from a route-running standpoint out of the backfield. Payton Wilson, in his second year, is a guy that's working to be dominant in that area. It's just one of those matchups that has my attention." Wilson was drafted with the 98th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft — and make a strong impression during his rookie year with the Steelers. Gainwell, who spent the past four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, signed with Pittsburgh this offseason — a fantastic fit in a completely restructured Steelers running back room. All eyes will be on these two Steelers when training camp returns on Tuesday, July 29 — a showdown that clearly has the full attention of the longest-tenured NFL head coach.
