CM Fadnavis also expressed displeasure over the incident, saying the image of everyone in the legislature has been maligned due to what happened in Vidhan Bhavan.

Speaking about the issue, Sapkal said, "CM Fadnavis is responsible for the scuffle in the Vidhan Bhavan premises. He must resign from the post as a form of penance." Accusing the BJP of nurturing "goons and hooligans" to target opposition members, he said the same culture has now entered the sacred premises of the legislature.
"What the public witnessed during the monsoon session was not democracy in action, but a disgraceful spectacle. People send their representatives to the legislature to address issues like farmers' distress, unemployment, women's safety and crop insurance. Yet, none of these were meaningfully discussed. Instead, the session was marred by an unprecedented brawl inside the Vidhan Bhavan," he said.
Sapkal likened the incident to a WWE match and blamed Fadnavis for bringing such a "violent culture" into democratic institutions.
Referring to past incidents, he cited the example of a Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA)-accused person being supported by BJP leaders in Akkalkot, and an MLA from the ruling party involved in a violent altercation at the MLA hostel canteen.
"The BJP is reaping what it has sown. The very culture of goondaism it promoted is now turning against it. The people of Maharashtra are outraged, but those in power are immune, sitting atop the sanctum of power," Sapkal said.
He accused the BJP of dragging Maharashtra's democracy to new lows, asserting that the party neither respects the Constitution nor the state's traditions.
Last week, both houses of the state legislature passed the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, 2024, which seeks to prevent unlawful activities of Left-wing extremist organisations with focus on 'urban Naxalism'.
The bill, which has stringent provisions, including hefty fines and jail term up to seven years for those found guilty, has sparked criticism from civil society groups and opposition parties, who view it as a tool to suppress dissent under the pretext of national security.
Speaking about it, Sapkal reiterated the Congress' opposition to it and questioned whether the law would apply to organisations like Bajrang Dal and the RSS.
"Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has remained silent on this crucial question. But Congress will continue to oppose the bill both inside and outside the legislature," he said.
The Congress leader claimed that the trail of

leads to the Rs 20,000 crore corruption in the Samruddhi Expressway.
"Despite denials from the CM, it is evident that something serious has occurred. The government is trying to bury the matter to shield corruption. Fadnavis' statements are outright lies," Sapkal alleged.
Congress MLA Nana Patole on Thursday demanded that the
Maharashtra government
make a formal statement in the assembly on an alleged "honeytrap" racket targeting state officials in Thane, Nashik and Mantralaya (secretariat) in Mumbai.
Speaking in the assembly, Patole claimed he had all the "proof" related to the allegations in a pen drive which is in his possession.

Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Minister Pratibha Shukla staged a dharna at a police station in Kanpur Dehat , demanding action against an SHO for allegedly filing a false case under the SC/ST Act against BJP workers. The protest, which lasted five hours, prompted the removal of the local police outpost in-charge and a departmental inquiry against the SHO, officials said. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav attacked the Yogi Adityanath government over police actions in the state. He also took potshots at Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak as he shared a video on X of the minister's purported video call with Shukla's husband, who expressed displeasure over the situation. Shukla, the Minister of State for Women's Welfare and Child Development, accused SHO Satish Singh of lodging a fabricated case under the SC/ST Act against BJP workers, calling it a 'deliberate attempt' to target them. 'This is not a previous Samajwadi regime. This is Yogi's government, and false and fabricated cases against BJP workers will not be tolerated,' Shukla told officials and media at the spot. Despite repeated efforts by Circle Officer (Sikandara) Priya Singh to persuade the minister to end the dharna, including a request to walk inside the SHO's chamber to speak to Superintendent of Police (Kanpur Dehat) Arvind Mishra, Shukla remained firm. 'Let the SP come out and speak in front of everyone,' she said, insisting that the matter be addressed publicly. 'I have never filed a police complaint in the last 25 years. And now fake cases are being registered against them - they (BJP workers) are being abused and are just supposed to keep voting for you? This won't go on,' before the call ended abruptly. Yadav took a jibe on the BJP over the matter. In a post on X, he, without naming Pathak, said, 'DCM sir, first focus on your own people, then give advice to others. Earlier, there was only one DCM (Keshav Maurya) who was reprimanded, now both are reprimanded.' In another post, he took potshots at the Adityanath dispensation, saying, 'The ruling state minister herself is staging protest against her own police's actions, does the chief minister want anymore evidence?' According to officials, the controversy began after a road construction project was halted by local municipal councillor Shamshad Khan, prompting the minister's intervention. Horrific accident in Hyderabad: 2 Andhra Pradesh intelligence officers dead, two injured
HYDERABAD: Two DSPs of the Andhra Pradesh govt's Intelligence Security Wing (ISW) died, and two others, including an additional SP and a head constable, suffered injuries in a road accident at Choutuppal on Saturday. Southeast Asian nations are highly reliant on Chinese components and raw materials, and US firms that source from the region would bear the extra tariff damage. That's left companies, investors and economists facing several unanswered questions about Trump's tariffs that appear aimed at squeezing out Chinese content, according to Deborah Elms, head of trade policy at the Hinrich Foundation in Singapore. Live Events 'Is that raw materials? All raw materials? Above a certain percentage?' she said. 'How about parts? What about labor or services? What about investment?' In an agreement with Indonesia last week, the White House said the two countries would negotiate 'rules of origin' to ensure a third country wouldn't benefit. The deal with Vietnam earlier this month outlined a higher 40% tariff rate for transshipped goods. And Thai officials, who have yet to secure a deal, detailed that they likely need to boost local content in exports to the US. Missing Details The Trump administration isn't providing much clarity on the matter right now. US officials are still working out details with trading partners and looking at value-based local content requirements, to ensure exports are more than just assembled imported parts, according to a person familiar with the matter, who didn't want to be identified discussing private talks. A senior Trump administration official also said this week that details on the approach to transshipment are expected to be released before Aug. 1, the deadline for when higher US tariffs kick in. Some factories are already adjusting their supply chains to comply with rules that will require more locally-made components in production. Frank Deng, an executive at a Shanghai-based furniture exporter with operations in Vietnam — and which gets about 80% of business from the US — said in an interview his firm is making adjustments as authorities appear to be more strictly enforcing country-of-origin rules. Vietnam has always had specific local content requirements for manufacturers, Deng added, including that a maximum of 30% of the volume of raw materials originates from China, and the value after production in Vietnam must be 40% higher than the imported raw materials. 'We've been struggling to meet all the standards so that we can still stay in the game,' Deng said. 'But I guess that's the only way to survive now.' For most of Southeast Asia, reducing the amount of Chinese-made components in manufacturing will require a complete overhaul of their supply chains. Estimates from Eurasia Group show that Chinese components make up about 60% to 70% of exports from Southeast Asia — primarily industrial inputs that go into manufacturing assembly. About 15% of the region's exports now head to the US, up about four percentage points from 2018. Local Content The US has become increasingly vigilant about China's ability to bypass US trade tariffs and other restrictions through third countries since Trump's first trade war in 2017. Thailand signaled its frustration over the lack of clarity for how much local content is needed in goods exported to the US to avert transshipment rates, but noted it will likely be much higher than a traditional measure of 40%. 'From what we've heard, the required percentage could be significantly higher, perhaps 60%, 70%, or even 80%,' Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said July 14. 'Emerging countries or new production bases are clearly at a disadvantage,' he said, as their manufacturing capabilities are still at an early stage and must rely on other countries for raw goods. Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia have all taken steps this year to address Trump's concerns, increasing scrutiny of trade that passes through their ports including new rule-of-origin policies that centralize processing and imposing harsh penalties on transshippers. Developing nations may still struggle to enforce Trump's rules or comply with the rules if it means going up against China, their largest trading partner and geopolitical partner. 'The reality is it's not enforceable at all,' said Dan Wang, China director at Eurasia Group. 'Chinese companies have all kinds of ways to get around it and those other countries have no incentive to enforce those measures, or capacity to collect the data and determine local content.'
