The 41-year-old appeared at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court where she pleaded not guilty to the charge.
JPs heard Mr Royall, who supported Mayo in court, had called police and also claimed his hair had been pulled.
He has since written to magistrates asking for the assault charge to be dropped, Mayo's solicitor said.
Rob New also claimed the behaviour is "consented" to in their relationship.
He added: "Miss Mayo's partner will be a witness [for the defence] at the trial, so the dispute is whether a crime has actually taken place.
"There is said to have been an incident at the train station. They had a disagreement, which resulted in her throwing things at him, chips at him."
Prosecutor John Cooper said the alleged attack had been recorded on CCTV and the footage would be played at the trial.
It shows Mayo allegedly "pull his hair, punch him and throw chips at him".
The prosecutor also said photos of Mr Royall's injuries will also be presented to the court.
Mayo was released on unconditional bail ahead of her trial at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court on September 12.
The journalist worked for 13 years at ITV Anglia before leaving to last year to focus on her PR business.
Mayo also carried out freelance work for the BBC and Global.

Lucy Letby celebrated friend's wedding while on bail amid baby murder investigation
Lucy Letby celebrated friend's wedding while on bail amid baby murder investigation Letby was seen laughing and dancing at a pal's wedding while she was on police bail following her initial arrest The new ITV documentary titled 'Lucy Letby: Beyond Reasonable Doubt?', sees an old school friend of Lucy discussing how the nurse made it to her wedding while out on bail. (Image: ITV) A former schoolmate of Lucy Letby has made a startling disclosure after revealing photos of the convicted baby murderer attending her wedding while on police bail. The nurse was initially apprehended in July 2018 under suspicion of killing eight infants and was formally charged in November 2020. She was later convicted in two separate trials for the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of seven others. Read everything you need to know about the case. Dawn Howe, who attended Aylestone Secondary School in Hereford with Letby, unearthed a collection of photographs during the new ITV documentary titled 'Lucy Letby: Beyond Reasonable Doubt?' Some of the images depict Letby grinning and dancing at Dawn's nuptials, which occurred amidst Cheshire Police's inquiry into whether the neonatal nurse from Countess of Chester Hospital was potentially the UK's most notorious child murderer. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . In the documentary, Dawn remarked: "Definitely got some holiday snaps, birthdays, holidays I've forgotten we even had. The wedding photos are definitely my favourite." Lucy and Dawn were old school friends (Image: ITV) With a chuckle, she continued: "There is Lucy at my wedding. I am just so glad she could be there because it was while she was on bail, she had to get special permission to be allowed to come from the police." One striking photo captures Letby, clad in a red blouse and grey skirt, smiling as others around her applaud on the dance floor. Another snapshot features a newlywed Dawn strolling by Letby, who joyously tosses confetti into the air. Lucy had to get special permission from the police to attend Dawn's wedding. (Image: ITV) Dawn and Lucy, who met during their teenage years, reminisced over wedding photographs with Dawn remarking: "Shortly after this she was held in custody so... I don't think Lucy has seen these." Reflecting on the shock of her friend's arrest around her wedding time, Dawn said: "I watched it all unfold every step of the way. I just couldn't believe it. It was beyond belief that this could be happening." The programme later shows Dawn again, this time driving to the school where she and Letby spent much of their youth. Within their circle, Dawn noted that Lucy was the only one with a definitive career ambition, recalling how during her A-levels, she aspired to "be a nurse and deal with really poorly babies". On camera, Dawn expressed her disbelief about the allegations, saying: "We were here and then university and then a few years after university is when she is supposed to have gone off on this killing spree.." Since September the Thirlwall Inquiry has been examining how the former neonatal nurse was able to murder or attack 14 babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital. (Image: PA) When the guilty verdict for Letby came through in August 2023, Dawn was at work and recounted feeling "dumbfounded" upon hearing the news. Her first thoughts turned to what would happen to Letby, as she said: "She can't just spend the rest of her life in prison." Despite losing two appeals against her convictions last year, Letby's legal team, headed by barrister Mark McDonald, presented new evidence from international experts to the Criminal Cases Review Commission in April, seeking to overturn her convictions. Dawn remained a steadfast supporter of Letby throughout the trial and continues her support, yet she confessed to feeling guilty for enjoying freedom while her friend faces 15 whole-life sentences. She reflected: "I am living a life Lucy should be living beside me in parallel. We should both be having families and we both bought our houses and we were looking forward to the next chapter of our lives and then all this happened. "It is just... there is so much guilt that I am sort of living a life that Lucy should also be living." Article continues below When approached about the allegations mentioned in this narrative, Cheshire Police opted not to provide a statement.

Repair Shop host Jay Blades charged with two counts of rape and faces court next week a year after quitting hit BBC show
REPAIR Shop star Jay Blades has been charged with two counts of rape. Police confirmed the allegations against the 55-year-old dad of three from Shropshire. 4 4 Blades fronted the hit BBC show for seven years before stepping back last year. King Charles appeared alongside him on a special episode in 2022. West Mercia Police confirmed charges against the dad of three, with a magistrates' court date set for next Wednesday. A spokesperson said: 'Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. "He is due to appear at Telford magistrates' court on 13 August 2025.' Blades was awarded an MBE in 2022 for services to craft while King Charles appeared on the Repair Shop the same year. The TV star is currently awaiting trial on a separate charge of controlling and coercive behaviour against estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen, which he has denied. Blades was arrested in May 2024 - on the same day fitness instructor Lisa announced her decision to end their 18-month marriage. In September Blades was charged. His actions allegedly caused Lisa 'to fear, on at least two occasions, that violence will be used against her'. The presenter pleaded not guilty to the charge — which relates to the period between January 1, 2023 and September 12, 2024 — at a court hearing last October. He is due to attend Worcester crown court today for a pre-trial review regarding the charge. Blades, who married Lisa in an intimate ceremony in Barbados in November 2022, took a break from filming following his arrest. Sources said the decision was also linked to the death of his uncle Richard Braithwaite, 72, in North London in March. A neighbour has been charged with murder. Blades was also dropped from The Repair Shop's live show, Secrets From The Barn, and quietly removed from promotional material. His Repair Shop co-star, horologist Steve Fletcher, revealed in March he had visited Blades while on a break from the live tour. Steve shared a photograph of himself with Blades on Instagram with the caption: 'In a break from our 'Secrets From the Barn' Tour, I popped in to see Jay the other day for a cup of tea and a lovely chat. 'It was great to catch up. Hope to see him again soon.' The BBC later replaced Blades with Roman Kemp for the Christmas special of the popular series. Blades also resigned as chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University 'with immediate effect' following the initial charge. It said: 'We thank Jay for his loyal service to the university and will be making no further comment.' As well as fronting The Repair Shop since 2017, Blades also hosted BBC shows including Money For Nothing and Jay Blades' Home Fix. He also appeared as a contestant on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special and fronted a special BBC documentary, Jay Blades: Learning to Read at 51. 4 4

Housekeeper wins unfair dismissal case against dead employer
A HOUSEKEEPER has won a case for unfair dismissal — against her dead boss. Maridel Baltero was on holiday when fired in a text from pioneering teacher Andrea Greystoke in November 2023. 2 A tribunal heard she was offered four weeks pay as notice after working 30 hours a week for ten years at Mrs Greystoke's London home. Ms Baltero started proceedings in January 2024, but her 78-year-old boss died five months later. The hearing in central London was told that Mrs Greystoke — director and founder of independent Abercorn School — had prepared a response to Ms Baltero's allegations. In it she admitted most of the claims and cited 'personality difficulties'. Employment judge Lydia Watton ruled the sacking unfair. "I bear in mind that [Mrs Greystoke] was an individual acting as employer, and I cannot expect her to have a large HR function at her disposal", Judge Watton said. "However, on the evidence before me she did not carry out any investigation whatsoever, let alone a reasonable one. "[Ms Baltero] was not asked about her performance, nor were the issues discussed with her. "I find that [Mrs Greystoke] could have reasonably been expected to wait longer before dismissing [Ms Baltero], at least until she had some form of consultation or performance management with [her]. "I do not find that dismissal was within the band of reasonable responses. I lost 'everything' when UC stopped my £4.3k-month payment... now I've been sacked from my new job "[Mrs Greystoke] had not made any attempt to find out if there were any reasons for the allegedly poor performance, or to warn [Ms Baltero]." Compensation from Mrs Greystoke's estate will be set later. 2
