'Doomsday mum' guilty of conspiring to murder her fourth husband

Metro23-04-2025
A 'doomsday mum' who killed two of her children has now been found guilty of conspiring to murder her fourth husband.
Lori Vallow Daybell conspired with her late brother to kill her estranged husband, Charles Vallow, at his home in Chandler, Arizona, in 2019.
He died in July of that year after being shot.
She was hoping to collect money from his life insurance policy before marrying her now-husband, 'doomsday prophet' Chad Daybell.
Vallow Daybell's brother, Alex Cox, claimed he acted in self defence when he shot and killed Mr Vallow. Cox died five months later after developing a blood clot in his lungs.
The mum, who chose to defend herself at trial, said Mr Vallow had chased her around the house with a bat, but the jury found her guilty after deliberating for just three hours.

This is the second trial Vallow Daybell has faced amid a complex web of cases involving murders and mysterious deaths.
Vallow-Daybell is already serving three consecutive life sentences for killing two of her children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and Joshua 'JJ' Vallow, 7, and conspiring to murder Daybell's previous wife, Tammy Daybell.
Tammy died in her sleep in October 2019.
Vallow Daybell became involved in a cult led by Chad Daybell, and after moving her family to be with him in Idaho they decided the children were 'zombies'.
They justified the killings by suggesting the children had been taken over by 'evil spirits'.
Chad Daybell received the death penalty last year after being found guilty of murder and conspiracy to murder in the deaths of Tylee, Joshua, and Tammy Daybell. He is awaiting execution at a maximum security facility in Idaho.
Starting with Mr Vallow's death, the doomsday couple created a wider plot to rid their lives of 'obstacles', text messages shown to the 2023 murder trial showed. More Trending
The prosecution said Vallow Daybell 'used money, power, and sex to get what she wanted'.
Vallow Daybell will go on trial again in June, accused of conspiring to murder Brandon Boudreaux, the ex-husband of her niece, Melani Pawlowski.
Mr Boudreaux survived the drive-by shooting in Arizona in October 2019 – the assailant was driving Mr Vallow's car.
Vallow Daybell won't be sentenced for her most recent conviction until after her next trial is complete.

Russian TikTokkers 'arrested for taking selfies outside oil depot inferno'

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A Ukrainian drone strike on an oil depot in Sochi – the Russian resort that hosted the 2014 Winter Olympic Games – was captured in a video shared online by two TikTok influencers. Footage circulating online shows two young women posing metres away from the inferno, allegedly caused by drone debris hitting a fuel tank. The pair have since been identified as Dasha Vladimirovna, 21, and Karina Evgenyevna, 19 – who have since been detained for accidentally exposing Vladimir Putin's failures to defend Russia. Flames are seen raging behind the two, with pillars of smoke rising into the sky, after the overnight attack. Dasha and Karina do not appear shocked – in the video, they are rapping to the track Crimson Dawn by singer Endshpil, a famous Russian rapper. Before they were identified, police had issued an appeal to members of the piublic, saying: 'During Internet monitoring, a publication was found of two girls filming a video against the backdrop of a fire in Sochi. 'The police have initiated an investigation, measures are being taken to identify the girls, and their actions will be legally assessed.' It was later confirmed that Dasha and Karina had been detained, and there were calls from pro-war outlets for them to issue a public apology over the stunt close to Sochi Airport. Police have not shared the real reason for their arrest, but it is likely that it is the potential glamourising of a Ukrainian strike on Putin's favourite Black Sea resort. The Kremlin has been taking an increasingly hard line against social media stunts seen as highlighting Ukraine's successes in the war. Ukraine's attack is seen as one of the most symbolically and strategically significant ones – deep within Russian territory since the start of the full-scale invasion. The oil depot sustained a direct hit, causing the explosion of a 2,000 cubic metre fuel reservoir and sparking a fire visible across Sochi. More than 120 firefighters and 35 emergency vehicles were deployed to the scene, and operations at the nearby airport were suspended as a precaution. Despite the official account from the governor of Krasnodar, Veniamin Kondratyev, describing the incident as a result of falling drone fragments, widespread footage circulating online paints a starkly different picture. More Trending Videos captured by local residents show towering plumes of black smoke, an orange-glowing night sky, and the sound of drones overhead. In one video, a panicked resident exclaims: 'It's flying, again! Right to the airport!' Moments later, another voice shouts, 'It's a tragedy! Everything's burning!' These images have sharply contrasted with the restrained language used by Russia's regional and federal authorities. Daredevil scales Copenhagen's tallest hotel before leaping from top

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A daredevil who reached peak infamy after leaping from the tip of The Shard has been at it again in Copenhagen. George King-Thompson, who goes by Shardclimber on Instagram, made the plunge off the Radisson Blu Scandinavia hotel in the Danish capital. The influencer said he previously attempted the feat in 2021, but came five metres short from the summit due to unscrewed vents. He ended up abandoning the dive and climbing down, before being arrested. Four years later, he successfully jumped off the tower in what he called a 'redemption'. The four-star hotel is located on the Stadsgraven canal. A clip of George undertaking his challenge at 5am showed him using metal vents to climb up the side of the skyscraper. After jumping off the edge, a red and black parachute bursts out of his bag just in the nick of time. He then landed safely in the car park. Describing the trepidation as he reached the tower's summit, he wrote: 'Leading up to this. Morale was low. There were thoughts and emotions. Thoughts which made me want to abort and fly back home. 'I knew I never would. 'Instead I lay in a field in my bivvy. In the rain. Patiently waiting for the weather to get good.' He continued: 'It is hard to see the significance of these kinds of moments in the present. It just feels torturous. Looking back… it's beautiful. It's the test. 'Eventually, the gods open up a weather window. The fear evaporates and I'm left cold and clinical.' More Trending George was previously handed a six-month sentence for taking his hobby to the top of the Shard in London. He ascended the 310-metre, 72-storey glass structure, without the aid of ropes or suction pads, in July 2019. The climb landed him in jail as it breached a court injunction sought by the tower's owners in 2018 to prevent a protest about the number of empty apartments in the landmark. Two years later, in 2021, he returned to London to mount two more skyscrapers within two weeks, the Stratosphere Tower and the 93-metre, 23-storey Unex Tower.
