Oct 29 fixed to hear appeal against Mohd Isa's acquittal
The date was fixed by deputy registrar Wan Fatimah Zaharah Wan Yussof during case management here yesterday.
Deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz, when contacted, said that parties have been instructed to file their submissions by Oct 14, which is two weeks before the hearing date.
Mohd Isa's lawyer Siti Sarah Khalil confirmed the matter.
The prosecution filed the notice of appeal on March 7 last year and the petition of appeal on June 26, with 24 reasons why the Court of Appeal had erred in acquitting Mohd Isa.
On March 6 last year, a three-judge Court of Appeal panel set aside Mohd Isa's conviction and six-year sentence, as well as the RM15.45mil fine imposed by the High Court on Feb 3, 2021.
In 2018, Mohd Isa was accused of nine counts of receiving RM3,090,000 in bribes from Ikhwan Zaidel, a director of Gegasan Abadi Properties Sdn Bhd, through his former special political officer Muhammad Zahid Md Arip as an inducement for facilitating Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd's approval to purchase the Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites for RM160mil.
The offences were alleged to have taken place at Level 49, Menara Felda, Platinum Park, No. 11, Persiaran KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, between July 21, 2014 and Dec 11, 2015.
He was charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

FGV delisting to begin Aug 28, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: The process to delist FGV Holdings Berhad from Bursa Malaysia starts on Aug 28, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said the move was possible due to sound management, and praised Felda's leadership. "Because of good management – thank you to the Director-General and the entire Felda management – we can begin the delisting on August 28," he said on Saturday (Aug 2) at the National Felda Settlers' Day Celebration and Rural Entrepreneurs' Carnival. "This means that Felda is no longer bound. Felda is a strength. FGV can now determine its own direction and provide assurance through the cooperative so that settlers' interests and benefits are prioritised,' said Anwar. Anwar added that the government would ensure FGV remains aligned with Felda's founding purpose. "Once this matter is settled, I, together with Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and our colleagues want to ensure a clear directive from the government; ensure that FGV returns to Felda's original objectives." He emphasised that FGV's focus must be on the settlers. "The priority is the settlers – their rights, their returns, and the cooperative they themselves have determined," he said, referring to Koperasi Permodalan Felda Malaysia Bhd. Anwar also stated that FGV's next phase would be critical. "Next, they will manage the initial few months so that Felda projects will succeed as intended," he said.

Anwar announces RM100,000 for each Felda village to fund community-chosen projects
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced an allocation of RM100,000 for each village under the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) to implement development projects of their choice. He said the approach of allowing villagers to choose their preferred projects is in line with the MADANI Government's aspiration, which emphasises consultation and community empowerment. 'I have prepared the allocation, with each Felda village receiving RM100,000 to decide which project they want to implement. 'This is not Felda management deciding what project to undertake. Want to buy a tractor? Build a fish pond? Purchase a drone? You decide what you want; I'm providing RM100,000 for each village,' he said when launching the 2025 Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D) at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek. — Bernama MORE TO COME

Felda cooperatives urged to restructure for higher profits and dividends
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) cooperative ecosystem must undergo restructuring to improve profitability and dividend returns for shareholders, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He emphasised that divesting underperforming investments or improving returns is crucial for cooperatives to benefit settlers. 'Last year's dividends have begun distribution, but the amount remains modest compared to earlier profitable years,' he told reporters after attending a settlers' appreciation ceremony at the 'Mega Karnival 3 Dimensi'. Ahmad Zahid, also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, urged Felda management to address settlers' land ownership, housing, debt, and 5G connectivity. 'Profits must return to settlers—their hard work drives these returns. Felda must fulfil this promise,' he said. He highlighted the need for expanded Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) access in Felda areas to develop skilled youth. Additionally, he stressed nationwide 5G coverage and road upgrades to enhance living conditions. 'My only concern is restoring settlers' rights. True satisfaction for all generations and global recognition for Felda can only come from this commitment,' he added. The five-day carnival, running since July 30, showcased entrepreneurship programmes by multiple ministries, featuring over 1,000 entrepreneurs and 882 booths nationwide. - Bernama
