2025 NBA Draft best available players in Round 2 including Kalkbrenner and Broome

Fox Sports26-06-2025
With round 1 in the books of the NBA Draft, there's still plenty of NBA talent left in this year's draft. Here's a look at the best available players for round 2: 2025 NBA Draft Best Remaining Prospects Ryan Kalkbrenner (Creighton) Overall Rank: #23
Strengths: Strength, Rebounder, Upside
Kalkbrenner could easily go in the top 20 given he's over seven-feet tall and shoots 34.4% from three. He won Big East Defensive Player of the Year four times and has the makings of a Boston Celtic written all over him.
LeBron James said that Cooper Flagg is "going to be amazing". Colin Cowherd discusses Flagg's potential in the NBA and if he'll have an immediate impact with the Dallas Mavericks if they select him. Johni Broome (Auburn) Overall Rank: #25
Strengths: Scorer, Competitor
The SEC Player of the Year, Broome shows up when it matters. In the Elite 8, he became the first player with 25 points and 10 rebounds on 75% shooting to send his team to the Final Four since Hakeem Olajuwon in 1984. Maxime Raynaud (Stanford) Overall Rank: #27
Strengths: Rebounder, Shooter, Strength
The 7'1 Frenchman out of Stanford was the only player in Division-I to average 20 PPG and 10 RPG this year. Raynaud also shot 34.7% from three on 5.5 attempts per contest, making his size and ability to stretch the floor extremely valuable. Noah Penda (France) Overall Rank: #30
Strengths: Defender, Versatile, Upside
Penda comes in at 6'8, 225 pounds and has nearly a seven-foot wingspan. He's only 20 years old and has great instincts on the defensive end of the floor. Another French product, he has the chance to be an incredible role player. Other Top Prospects

Though he's currently a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, that didn't stop LeBron James from giving a shoutout to one member of the Cleveland Cavaliers front office on social media. On Monday, ESPN NBA insider shams Charania posted on X that the Cavaliers had extended the contracts of president Koby Altman, general manager Mike Gansey, and assistant general manager Brandon Weems. The post caught James' attention, and he promptly replied to Charania's post with a quote tweet congratulating Weems on his new deal. "YESSIR!!! Congratulations to my brother Super proud of u man 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾🤎," James wrote on X. YESSIR!!! "For those wondering, Brandon Weems was LeBron James' high school teammate at St. Vincent-St. Mary," Sidery wrote. "Weems was hired by Cleveland a year after LeBron's original return in 2014 and became Assistant GM in 2022." The timing of James' social media post is sure to have people talking as it was reported by NBA insider Scoop Robinson that the Cavaliers are one of four teams that reached out to James' agent Rich Paul about their interest in trading for him. Hoops Wire also reported that Cleveland is interested in reuniting with James if he and the Lakers agree to a buyout this summer. After dispatching of James' former team, the Miami Heat, in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs, they fell 4-1 to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinal round. The Pacers fell in seven games to the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Under Altman, Gansey and Weems' leadership, the Cavaliers drafted two of their top players in two-time All-Star point guard Darius Garland and 2025 Defensive Player of the Year Evan Mobley—both with top-five draft picks—plus traded for six-time All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, who led the team in scoring during the regular season (24 points per game) and postseason (29.6 ppg).

Spurs' Victor Wembanyama says he's been cleared to return following blood clot

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama expects to play this coming season and has been fully cleared after dealing with deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder for the last few months, he told the French newspaper L'Equipe in remarks published Monday. There was no immediate comment from the Spurs on the report. It has been expected that the team anticipated Wembanyama would be able to start this coming season, though there was no official word until now. 'I'm officially cleared to return. … I'll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again,' Wembanyama told the French sports daily. Wembanyama was the league's rookie of the year two years ago, and Spurs guard Stephon Castle won that same trophy this past season. Wembanyama was the front-runner to be defensive player of the year last season when he was diagnosed with the blood clot in his right shoulder in February. He was averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 3.7 assists when he was shut down; the only other player in NBA history to finish a season averaging all that was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975-76. Wembanyama has traveled extensively in recent months and spent time last month at a Shaolin temple in Zhengzhou, China. The temple is a place that welcomes visitors who wish to study Chan meditation, Shaolin Kung Fu, traditional Chinese medicine and more. ___ AP NBA:

Is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 1 of the top 100 NBA players ever? Not to Bleacher Report

After one of the greatest individual seasons ever, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has surely asserted himself as one of the basketball greats. It took conventional wisdom a while to catch up to how absurdly great the 27-year-old is, but an MVP award, NBA Finals MVP trophy, scoring title and championship ring are enough of a stacked trophy case for most. Well, not to Bleacher Report. The outlet's NBA staff published the top 100 NBA players of all time. Considering it's mid-July, right now is the perfect time to reflect on the league's rich history and vote for who is among the greatest that have tied up their sneakers on the hardwood. Despite three straight 30-plus point campaigns and three All-NBA First Team honors, Gilgeous-Alexander was not listed among the best 100 players ever. Instead, other active players like Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler and Paul George were listed ahead — even with lesser resumes. So, this is clearly an oversight. Perhaps Bleacher Report's staff conducted the poll while the NBA playoffs were still happening. A project like this requires weeks. Still, a championship shouldn't be the deciding factor for a layup entry like Gilgeous-Alexander. Gilgeous-Alexander has had an abnormal path to superstardom. He went from afterthought of the 2019 George to LA Clippers blockbuster to a Gen Z Michael Jordan in just three seasons, but that should've been enough time for their writers to understand just how historically special he is. The average fan might've learned how dominant Gilgeous-Alexander was this past season. The Thunder had one of the greatest seasons ever and were constantly on national television. But two straight top-five MVP finishes, including runner-up last year, clearly showed where his trajectory was going as he entered his prime. Shame on Bleacher Report for the mishap. They should know better.
