Report: Grizzlies' Cedric Coward expected to be ready for training camp
Coward didn't participate in the NBA Summer League as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury that limited him to six games last season at Washington State. He was considered doubtful to play and didn't join the team until July 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 11th pick said after the draft that he felt like he could play in the desert, but added that the decision to clear him would likely be made by the organization. A team executive told Smith that Coward is expected to be cleared when the team convenes in late September.
On drafting Cedric Coward: 'We're so excited about having him. Cedric is going to be really good for us. He should be ready to go for camp. You have to have good wings to win big in our league, and I think Cedric with Jaylen (Wells) is going to be great for us,' a Grizzlies front office executive said.
Coward averaged 17.7 points, seven rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 blocks on 40% shooting from 3-point range (12-of-30) last season as a senior. He produced a season-high 30 points and three assists on Nov. 18 in a win over Northern Colorado.
The 21-year-old is highly touted for his ability to score at all three levels and defend multiple positions, boasting a 7-foot, 2 1/4-inch wingspan. He had a rapid rise after beginning at Willamette University (Division III) and playing two seasons at Eastern Washington.
Coward was highly sought after by the Grizzlies and projects to be a player who can contribute immediately. They believe he has a bright future ahead and are eager to get him back on the court.

Phoenix Suns general manager Brian Gregory recently revealed the team turned down trade offers to select Khaman Maluach with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft. He was highly touted due to his versatility as a player who can both shoot and defend, boasting a 7-foot, 6 3/4-inch wingspan. The 18-year-old debuted with the Suns in the NBA Summer League on July 11, recording 14 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. He finished by posting averages of 10 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in three appearances. Maluach has impressed teammates and coaches early on after joining the organization last month. He showcased each element of his game that attracted the Suns, and the group will be eager to get to work with him in training camp and beyond.

Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey is a maniacal worker as he is somebody who is always going to be in the gym working on his game and continuing to take steps forward as a player. He took steps forward as a leader in 2024-25 while also attacking against waves of defenders, and now, he is looking to take another step. Maxey was in the gym working with trainer Chris Johnson while working alongside 2-time NBA champion, and current Memphis Grizzlies guard, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The 12-year veteran out of Georgia has won titles with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and the Denver Nuggets in 2023. Maxey and Caldwell-Pope put in some work in the gym on a variety of jump shots as the young All-Star continues to soak up any knowledge he can from the veterans in this league. Maxey was limited to only 52 games due to a variety of injuries in what was a lost season for Philadelphia. Now, the Sixers will be looking for him to bounce back next to Joel Embiid and Paul George in order to bounce back from a miserable 24-58 season that was decimated by injuries and things they can't control.

Hornets' Kon Knueppel exits Summer League game with head injury
The post Hornets' Kon Knueppel exits Summer League game with head injury appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Charlotte Hornets went undefeated through their first four games at NBA Summer League. The Hornets earned a spot in the semifinals easily, squaring off against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a spot in the championship on the line. The Hornets, led by No. 4 pick Kon Knueppel and Jaylen Sims, played a dominant game. However, Knueppel exited with a head injury. According to the Washington Post's Ben Golliver, Knueppel injured his head while diving for a loose ball. He was able to get up and walked to Charlotte's locker room under his own power. Hornets fans don't want to see their lottery pick suffer any injuries. However, there are some, like Golliver, who are impressed. Knueppel dived for the loose ball with his team winning by nearly 30 points. He did not have to hit the floor, but he did anyways. Even though his play in Summer League has been inconsistent, Knueppel has shown flashes of who he could be in the NBA. Before he left the game, Knueppel was having arguably his best game so far this summer. Through 21 minutes, the former Duke Blue Devil had 17 points and two steals. Luckily for his team, Sims stepped up in his absence. The third-year pro led the way for Charlotte with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. The Hornets blew out the Thunder 109-80 in the second NBA Summer League semifinal game. They have a date with the Sacramento Kings on Sunday in the Summer League title game. Charlotte has not released any information on Knueppel's injury or whether or not he will play in the Hornets' last Summer League game. Knueppel is the face of a 2025 Hornets draft class that includes Liam McNeely, Sion James, and Ryan Kalkbrenner. If their efforts in Summer League are any indication, Charlotte could have one of the best groups of rookies in the league.
