C8 Corvette Refresh Moves It More Into The Modern Era
Much has been said, both positive and negative, about the C8 Corvette and its cockpit. But Chevrolet has revealed for the 2026 a new design will change some things, including taking out the so-called Great Wall of Buttons. Like all modern vehicles, digital screens are bigger and take over even more, but we have mixed feelings about this.Instead of a bunch of buttons, the C8 Corvette will have three larger screens to help the driver monitor what's going on and control different functions. The gauge cluster screen is now 12.7 inches and the infotainment screen is 14 inches.
Plus, there's a new 6.6 inch auxiliary touchscreen on the driver's left
At least not all the physical buttons will be gone and while we weren't big fans of the layout before, we're unsure how user-friendly this redesign will be.
Another big change has to do with software. The PDR recorder has been improved, as has the Corvette Performance App. Plus, there's a new PTM-Pro setting for track driving.
Not only is the Great Wall of Buttons gone, the whole center console has been redesigned. One of the changes is the drive mode selector being relocated by the gear selector. Redesigned cupholders feature ambient lighting and in higher trims also feature aluminum. Plus, there's a wireless charging pad for your phone, which admittedly is a nice feature to have.
In addition, five new interior colors are coming. GM hasn't said what current interior colors will be ended.
For the exterior, there will be two new paint options: Roswell Green Metallic and Blade Silver Metallic. Plus, blue brake calipers will be available for the Z06 and E-Ray. Perhaps the biggest change is the Targa roof with electrochromatic glass the driver can lighten or darken.
One thing that's obvious about this move is GM refreshing the C8 Corvette is a planned move to reinvigorate sales. That's why mid-cycle refreshes are a thing as cars and their designs get a little stale.
But we have mixed feelings about this one. We're also not sure if this will result in a sales bump for the 2026 models, something that's needed as C8 Corvettes that were once red hot are now stacking up at dealerships.
Will this turn things around? Will the presence of more screens and fewer buttons turn buyers off even more? We'll have to see when the 2026 Corvettes start coming into the market.

GM's policy for software updates on 2025 vehicles reveals that not updating on time could result in higher repair costs later, as reported by GM Authority. According to GM's official Limited Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklets, owners need to install over-the-air updates within 45 days of the update becoming available, as reported by GM Authority. If owners do not install the update within that period, any resulting damage caused by the failure to perform the update will not be covered by the vehicle's warranty. This applies to 2025 and 2026 models and includes all four brands under GM's umbrella: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. Since any new bugs would be fixed for free, the best move seems to be to install any OTA updates as soon as they become available. We've reached out to General Motors for clarification on the policy and will update this story if we hear back. 'Game On:' Ford CEO Responds to the Corvette's Nürburgring Record
The Ford Mustang GTD only held the record for the fastest American car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife for a little over 7 months. Ford announced a 6:57.685 lap back in December , and bettered it with a 6:52.07 a few months later , but Chevrolet just took the crown with the Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X. Ford's response? "Game on." That came directly from CEO Jim Farley, who replied "[c]ongrats to the Corvette team. Game on!" on an Instagram post from the official Corvette page. The Drive was the first to bring our attention to Farley's comment. Ford could go back to the 'Ring with the Mustang GTD, but that car is at somewhat of a disadvantage to the ZR1 and ZR1X. The Mustang GTD weighs over 4,300 pounds based on EPA documents that Road & Track reported on back in February, while Car and Driver measured the ZR1 at 3,831 pounds. Chevy hasn't revealed a weight figure for the ZR1X, but it's reasonable to expect it to eclipse the 4,000-pound mark. The Mustang GTD has 815 horsepower, which is a lot, but the ZR1 makes 1,064 hp, and the ZR1X ups it to 1,250 hp. Power and weight figures aren't everything, but they do count for a ton. Still, the GTD has a very advanced suspension system, huge Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and an extremely advanced aero package that includes a Formula 1-style drag-reduction system to stall the wing on straights. In any case, we don't know if Ford has anything planned. Farley surely wants to take back the record—he's a racer himself and he's pushing performance hard with the Mustang—but Ford isn't going to go to the 'Ring unless it knows it at least has a chance of beating the Corvette's time. There could be more time in the GTD, but Ford may also need to wait until it has its next, greatest thing to beat Chevy.
