Christian Craig is scheduled to return to the SuperMotocross League at Birmingham
Craig sat out the first half of the Supercross season to recover from ACL surgery. He suffered the injury in the SuperMotocross World Championship finale in Las Vegas, Nevada, saying at the time: 'Not the news I want to share but also not the end of the world. In the very last race of the year, I went off the track after the sand section and when I was reentering the track, I slid and dabbed my leg. Didn't even fall. Unfortunately, surgery was the best option to get it fixed up the right way.'

This marks a return to Yamaha after two seasons with Husqvarna, during which his best championship effort netted an eighth in last year's Pro Motocross season. Craig made only six rounds of the 2024 Supercross season before he was sidelined following a 12th-place finish in Glendale, Arizona. His best result in the playoffs was a pair of 14th-place finishes at zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina, and Texas Motor Speedway in Forth Worth, Texas.
Craig signed a two-year agreement with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing last October as a 450 rider and coach for the 250 team.

49ers may have under-the-radar position battle materialize at QB during training camp
The San Francisco managed to get through their offseason without any major quarterback drama. Without a battle for the starting QB job, the only real chance for fireworks was eliminated when the club hammered out a long-term extension with Brock Purdy before mandatory minicamp in June. With Purdy locked in as the starting QB for the foreseeable future, the attention turns to the rest of the depth chart where things are a little less certain. Free agent signee Mac Jones figures to be the No. 2 signal caller with second-year undrafted free agent Tanner Mordecai behind him. Seventh-round pick Kurtis Rourke is also on the 90-man roster. His status for training camp and the 2025 season are both uncertain as he recovers from an ACL tear. The backup job is Jones's to lose going into camp. He has 49 starts in 52 games across four seasons as a pro. He was also heavily tied to the 49ers in the lead up to the 2021 NFL draft when San Francisco held the No. 3 overall pick. Head coach Kyle Shanahan knows Jones well and presumably added him with the confidence that Jones will quickly be an effective backup for Purdy. Given that Purdy, the final pick of the 2022 draft, came out of nowhere to win a roster spot as rookie, we can't rule out Mordecai as he begins his second season in the 49ers' system. Mordecai was a UDFA signee out of Wisconsin after the 2024 draft. He spent his rookie year on San Francisco's practice squad. There are some things to like about Mordecai's game and he flashed a couple times in his first preseason. His athleticism makes him intriguing when considering his ability to back up Purdy. He's also not a developing player after playing in 46 games with 1,281 pass attempts across six years in college. Mordecai could conceivably be ready to step in and battle Jones for the No. 2 QB job. While the notion isn't crazy, it's hard to imagine Jones losing out to a second-year UDFA. When Purdy beat out Nate Sudfeld for the third QB spot, Sudfeld was a relatively unknown career backup. Jones is a former first-round pick who took a team to the postseason as a rookie while finishing second in the Offensive Player of the Year voting. Jones has undeniably taken steps backward during his four-year NFL career, but he's entering San Francisco hoping to get on the Sam Darnold path from 49ers backup to another team's starter. The club signed him knowing as much. It would take a heroic effort from Mordecai in camp and a rough showing from Jones to get the second-year UDFA into the mix. Why Sam Presti is excited to see Nikola Topic play in 2025 Summer League
Like a comic book character teased at the end of a movie, Nikola Topic appeared more and more the deeper the Oklahoma City Thunder went in the playoffs. By the time they claimed their first NBA championship, over a year had passed since the 19-year-old partially tore his ACL. The rich get richer. Usually, the NBA champion has little to look forward to in the Summer League. They're stuck at the No. 30 pick of most NBA drafts. That spot usually isn't filled with intriguing draft prospects who are worth watching in the two-week extravaganza. But because of the Thunder's ridiculous draft haul, Topic headlines their Summer League. The 2024 No. 12 pick will finally suit up for OKC after he missed his first year recovering from a knee injury he suffered in May 2024 that dropped his draft stock. This isn't new territory for the Thunder. Under different circumstances, Chet Holmgren missed his first season with a Lisfranc injury he suffered in August 2022. The wait was worth it as he played an important role in OKC's first championship. After he confirmed Topic will play, Sam Presti discussed how excited he was to finally see Topic play. While also throwing in a precautionary tale to not be too rash with judgment, considering his unique circumstances. "We've seen this before, where somebody has a year where they can just focus on getting their feet underneath them as an NBA player, working on their body, learning the league. I think he's made great strides during this period of time," Presti said. "We'll see when he gets out there playing in Summer League. He hasn't played 5-on-5 with, like, scoreboard, referees, people in the stands. We've got to give him some grace on that." If Topic can reach close to his ceiling, he can solve a lot of the Thunder's roster problems. Despite winning a championship, there's no denying they struggled with a shaky half-court offense throughout the playoffs. A high-end playmaker like the 19-year-old could fix that. "Certainly excited to see him and what he offers to the team. And like I said before, we're not trying to fit him into last year's team," Presti said. "We're just trying to see where we are with our guys when we're back here, and then we'll go through the same process we go through every year, which is discovering the team, experimenting, looking at a lot of different options and lineups, trying to develop the collective team and how everybody can work within that." How Topic develops and enters training camp will be an interesting storyline to watch. He will surely battle Ajay Mitchell for the backup point guard role. Both have overlapping skills. The latter has actual NBA production to point to as his favorite, while the former has higher potential. Summer League will likely provide both a chance to see who gets the early advantage. Fresh off an NBA championship, Thunder fans will continue to enjoy their riches with actual reasons to get excited for the July event.

Why the Fever's latest win over the Aces is such a big deal
The Indiana Fever pulled off a rare feat on Thursday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The team beat the A'ja Wilson Las Vegas Aces. As much as that might be just another win in the regular season record, it does snap a staggering Aces streak going all the way back to 2019. The Fever's 81-54 victory snapped the Aces' 16-game win streak going back to the 2019 season. Yes, the Aces had topped the Fever 16-straight times before Thursday night's Indy win. That is a long time. In fact, this is only the fifth time the Fever have defeated the Aces since 2015. That makes Thursday night's win all that much sweeter for Indy, a night where the team already managed to overcome not having superstar guard Caitlin Clark. We're sure the Aces will be eager to start another 16-game winning streak, but at least for Thursday night, the Fever can claim to be the victors.
