Travel turbulence: Travellers encounter long queues at OR Tambo
As reported by TimesLive , the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) acknowledged what it called 'operational disruptions' and said it was working to restore normal service levels.
By late Tuesday, ACSA reported that domestic operations had mostly stabilised, with additional staff deployed to support international passengers.
Although ACSA confirmed that adjustments had been made at security checkpoints, it did not clarify what those changes involved.
The disruptions, however, appear to be limited to OR Tambo, with no other airports affected.
In the meantime, travellers have been urged to plan ahead. ACSA has advised that passengers arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures.
The airports company also emphasised the importance of heading straight to security screening after check-in to avoid further delays.
While operations are expected to return to normal soon, passengers flying through OR Tambo this week should brace for potential hold-ups – and arrive early.

Tour de France 2025: NO South Africans in the peloton
The 2025 Tour de France will start in Lille on Saturday, 5 July – without any South African riders in the peloton. Despite this year's race, the 112th of all time, having one more than the 22 usual eight-rider teams, no riders from Mzansi were selected to start. In recent years Louis Meintjes has been a stalwart for the Intermarché-Wanty UCI team, but their line-up in 2025 is built around Eritrean sprinter Biniam Girmay. Extensive upgrades on the cards for major South African airport
Lanseria International Airport, South Africa's only privately owned airport, is gearing up for a major transformation this year. According to BusinessTech , these major upgrades are aimed at increasing capacity at the airport, improving infrastructure, and establishing itself as a key regional hub. The South African airport is also positioning itself for long-term growth through an ambitious expansion plan. CEO Rampa Rammopo outlined a bold future for the Gauteng-based airport, BusinessTech revealed. Handling 1.9 million passengers annually, Lanseria aims to more than double that figure by 2032 and reach six million by 2037. By 2050, the goal is a staggering 18 million passengers a year. 'Our vision is to be a regional airport catering mainly to the SADC and sub-Saharan Africa,' Rammopo said. To support this growth, Lanseria is investing heavily in infrastructure.
