PETALING JAYA : A school van driver has been arrested in Johor Bahru for allegedly molesting two children.
Seri Alam police chief Sohaimi Ishak said the 58-year-old suspect was arrested at 5.30pm yesterday at his house in Taman Desa Harmoni after a report was lodged by the father of one of the victims, Sinar Harian reported.
According to the father, the first alleged incident took place at about 9.30am on April 21, involving an eight-year-old girl who claimed she was molested by the suspect in a school van near a school at Taman Molek.
'The victim informed her father about the incident, but he did not take immediate action as he wanted to give the suspect a chance,' he was quoted as saying.
'However, at about 8am on Monday, the victim's father reportedly witnessed the suspect molesting a seven-year-old boy at Taman Redang, while the school van was parked waiting for other students.'
This prompted the father to come forward and file a police report regarding the two incidents, Sohaimi said.
He said the suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Bus carrying 30 pupils, five teachers crashes into a tree in Serdang

SERDANG: Three pupils and a teacher were injured when the bus they were travelling in veered off the road and collided with a tree at Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on Saturday (Aug 2). Sinar Harian reported that in the incident, which occurred at 12.18pm, the bus carrying 30 pupils and five teachers from Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti) Ampang, was en route from a chocolate factory to the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) in Serdang. Serdang OCPD Asst Comm, Muhamad Farid Ahmad, said preliminary investigations found that a 44-year-old man drove the bus. "The initial investigation found that the incident happened on a straight and paved road; the bus involved is believed to have lost control and skidded to the left of the road. "The bus then hit a tree at the scene of the incident, resulting in three pupils and a teacher suffering minor injuries," he said in a statement on Saturday. He said the injured individual was taken to Serdang Hospital for treatment. "The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987. "Further investigations related to the incident are still underway," he said. He added that the bus driver involved, who is a local man, was detained for further investigation.

Four 13-year-olds released on bail after alleged attack on classmate at Kajang mall

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — Four 13-year-old students detained over the alleged assault of a classmate at a shopping mall in Kajang have been released on police bail today. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the suspects, which was initially extended until tomorrow, was concluded earlier following the completion of documentation and investigative procedures. 'To date, police have recorded statements from nine individuals, including the four students,' he said in a statement. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by dissatisfaction among the suspects with the victim's manner of communication and interaction. On July 30, the Form One student lodged a police report alleging classmates beat him at about 11 am at the mall. He later received medical treatment and was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. — Bernama

IGP: Don't derail Zara Qairina probe with 3R speculation

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 2 — All negative comments regarding the student bullying case in Sabah that could cause anxiety and touch on 3R (Race, Religion, Royalty) issues should cease immediately. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that sufficient space must be given to the police to complete their investigation fully. 'I call upon all parties to give space to the police to continue the investigation,' he said. 'Negative comments and public perceptions linking this to 3R issues sometimes make it difficult for us to resolve the investigation and so on.' 'Therefore, I call on the relevant parties to refrain from making negative comments, comments that could create a bad atmosphere or anxiety by linking certain parties, politics, and also the palace to this issue, which I feel should be stopped,' he stressed. Commenting further on the bullying case involving the death of a student from Sipitang, the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, 13, on July 17, Mohd Khalid informed that so far, statements have been recorded from 60 witnesses, including students, staff and teachers. 'So, we have obtained many things, much information, and the investigation papers have been completed and submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman. We will then bring them to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further action,' he explained. Mohd Khalid, who was met by the media after paying a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah Tun Musa Aman on Saturday, said the visit aimed to discuss security and stability issues in Sabah. 'We discussed security and stability issues in the state of Sabah.' 'The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is always open to ensuring the political stability and security of Sabah remain peaceful for all its people.' 'The Sabah Police Commissioner is also always giving his best to ensure Sabah's security, not only concerning domestic issues but also international issues, especially our waters shared with neighbouring states, the Philippines, and also claims by China and other countries. 'So far, we are in a win-win situation, discussing well and thoroughly so that everything can be resolved amicably,' he revealed. Accompanying him at Istana Seri Kinabalu was Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun. This visit coincided with his maiden trip to Sabah since being appointed as the Inspector-General of Police on June 23. — The Borneo Post
