Scot thrown in hell hole Caribbean jail 'for forcing ill wife to go to work'
A Scottish businessman is being held in a hellhole foreign prison - after he arrested over claims he tried to force his wife to go to work when she said she wasn't well.
Michael Breslin and his wife live in San Juan, the capital of US territory Puerto Rico, and he was remanded in custody over domestic abuse claims on the island.
The 32-year-old is being held in the Caribbean island's Bayamón Correctional Complex, which sees inmates housed based on gang affiliations and has hit the headlines over a number of incidents.
As well as drug deaths and squalid conditions, the complex has also been staffed by crooked prison guards helping criminals smuggle in drugs and other contraband, and has seen a number of prisoners break free.
Breslin, of Ardrossan, Ayrshire, was charged with one count of battery under the predominantly Spanish speaking island's Domestic Violence Prevention and Intervention Act.
A Policía de Puerto Rico mugshot of Breslin released after his arrest describes him as having red hair, white skin and blue eyes, and being 5ft 10ins tall.
Puerto Rican daily newspaper Primera Hora reported that Breslin's partner claims he began yelling and insulting her because she didn't feel well enough to go to work, and he insisted that she leave the house.
The woman decided to get into his vehicle to go to her parents' house, and when he got in too. On the way, he continued yelling at her in front of her four-year-old son, causing her to feel intimidated.

Furthermore, the incident report indicated that while he was driving along Jesús T. Piñero Avenue, his steering wheel moved and he was nearly involved in a traffic accident, so he decided to file a complaint.
The evidence was presented to Judge Arelys Ortiz at a court in San Juan, who determined cause for arrest and set bail at $80,000, which he did not post.
After a court hearing in connection with the case in March, Breslin was sent to Institution 705 of the Bayamón Correctional Complex, until a preliminary hearing takes place.
It's understood Breslin and his wife, who is believed to be from Puerto Rico, got married over there in March 2023. His construction company, MBRESLIN LTD, was dissolved in March 2021.
Government documents list his occupation as a steel erector and state the company was involved in "manufacture of metal structures and parts of structures" and "construction of bridges and tunnels".
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting a British man detained in Puerto Rico and are in contact with the local authorities."

Between 2020 and 2022, prison deaths nearly doubled in Puerto Rico, going from 59 from 2020 to 2021, and 94 deaths between 2021 and 2022, with independent senator and physician José Vargas Vidot saying: "The increase in deaths is due to opioid overdoses".
In 2021, three prison officers were charged with smuggling contraband to the jail Breslin is being held in. The contraband included mobile phones, chargers and cigarettes.
Payments were made for supplying the smuggled items, which also included drugs, such as synthetic cannabis and suboxone, a medication used to treat heroin and morphine addicts.
In 2017, thirteen prisoners went on the run from Bayamón after a power cut caused when Hurricane Maria hit the island allowed them to make their escape.
The hurricane left the prisoners in the overcrowded jail without running water and electricity for weeks and led to a civil rights storm, bringing protests and unrest.

The "manipulative, emotionally volatile, and jealous' ex was this week jailed for life over the death of the 31-year-old, who had suffered horrific abuse at her hands. The Mirror reports she was told she must serve a minimum of 25 years, after being found guilty of Louis' murder following a hearing at Stafford Crown Court. The court heard how killer Carless, 33, had already been on police bail for strangling Louis the month before she brutally murdered him, in an act "motivated by anger and jealousy and fuelled by cocaine and alcohol". Father-of-six Louis had been considered by police officers to be 'at very high risk of domestic abuse'. Following the strangulation incident on November 11, 2024, Louis had called 999. He told of how Carless had poured bleach over tracksuits worth £400 after putting them in the bin. He'd also said she'd thrown a glass candle holder at him, pulled him down the stairs, and choked him. In a harrowing witness statement, Louis described how the relationship, which began in 2021, had been 'on the whole, abusive', adding that Carless had stopped him doing things he enjoyed, such as playing football, as well as physically abusing him. Hauntingly, at a funeral held at the end of November 2024, Louis confided in his friend Demi-Louise Deakin about his on-off relationship with Carless. He admitted he was 'scared of Kirsty' and feared that 'something bad would happen' if he did not leave her. Mere weeks later, he was dead. The terrible events that unfolded began on Christmas Eve 2024, an evening which Carless, from Cannock, Staffordshire, spent at the pub drinking double vodka and cokes with a male friend. She then went back to this man's house, where they had sex. It was at around 1.30 am on Christmas Day that a female friend sent Carless a screenshot of Louis' Tinder profile. Furious, Carless took a taxi back to her house, where she collected a kitchen knife. She then ordered another taxi to Louis' parents' home, where he'd been staying since the abusive relationship ended. While waiting for this second taxi, Carless called Louis repeatedly. Call records show she rang him a total of 45 times between 2.15 am and 2.44 am. Once she arrived at his family home, Carless asked the driver to wait outside. About 20 seconds after Carless let herself into the property with a key, the driver heard a 'very loud and prolonged' scream from a man who 'sounded scared'. Disturbing CCTV footage shows Carless running up Louis' front garden path into the house before 'stalking' him around the garden. He was later found on the floor of the conservatory, with a single stab wound to the chest. Less than two minutes after they pulled up, an 'anxious and sweating' Carless got back into the taxi and demanded the driver take her back to her parents' home. It was then that she confessed what she had done, and 999 was called. Giving evidence to the trial, Carless claimed she had no recollection of stabbing Louis. Stating she was 'not a violent person' Carless told the court she'd only gone to Louis' address as she believed he'd taken money from a card she had in her home. After picking up a knife with the intent to destroy the caravan Louis had been staying in in his parents' back garden, Carless claimed she'd 'panicked' after he was stabbed and fled the scene. As well as being found unanimously guilty of murder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, Carless was also found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm relating to a previous incident, but cleared of intentional strangulation.

Baby P's mum is high risk if she is freed from prison and allowed to see children, experts have warned as Tracey Connelly launches a fresh bid for freedom. Connelly herself does not even support a full unconditional release back into the public, the Parole Board will be told. A judgement was published ordering that a two-day parole hearing is heard in public. In it, the Parole Board said: 'In the current psychological risk assessment, it is assessed that her risk of violence remains low. Ms Connelly, in interview, has stated that she will not be seeking unconditional release due to the support she would lose." Connelly was jailed at the Old Bailey in 2009 for causing or allowing the death of Peter. She was released on licence in 2013 before being recalled for breaching parole conditions by selling nude snaps online in 2015. Connelly – who had parole bids in 2015, 2017 and 2019 rejected – was then freed on licence in July 2022. She was hauled back to jail in September for flouting the conditions of her release while living at a bail hostel. It was not clear how she breached her licence but she was placed on curfew and had to disclose relationships. Connelly's internet and phone use was also monitored and she was barred from certain places. She had reinvented herself on a WeightWatchers forum as a woman named Connie. In documents, it is claimed she suffers PTSD and was subjected to 'bullying and aggression' after her recall to prison. Her solicitor fought for the upcoming parole hearing to be held in private. The report states: 'He submits that a public hearing will only exacerbate these issues." He also stated he believes that "will have a significant and detrimental effect upon Ms Connelly's ability to give effective and accurate evidence at the hearing.' But the Parole Board decided the hearing would be public. Peter – initially referred to in news reports as Baby P – suffered 50 injuries, including a broken back and fractured ribs, at his home in Tottenham, North London. Connelly, stepdad Steven Barker and Barker's brother Jason Owen were jailed over his death.

Cops attacked eight times during TRNSMT and police responded to 43 drug incidents
Police Scotland has now disclosed a breakdown of the 124 incidents which occurred. Police officers were attacked a total of eight times and attended 43 drug-related incidents during TRNSMT last month. A Freedom of Information request has revealed that a total of 19 people were charged during the Glasgow Green event, which was headlined by 50 Cent, Biffy Clyro and Snow Patrol. These were relating to a number of offences including police assault, assault, sexual assault, culpable and reckless behaviour, hate crime and possession of weapons. The festival took place during the weekend of July 11 to 13 and an FOI released by Police Scotland has now disclosed a breakdown of the 124 incidents which occurred. Officers were assaulted eight times, with five of the attacks occurring on the opening day of the music festival. Police also responded to 12 attacks on members of the public. Over the weekend, 43 drug-related incidents, including misuse of Class A, B and C substances, took place. Two sexual assaults were also reported to authorities during the event. On Friday, July 11, one incident involved an individual wearing an item linked to a proscribed terrorist organisation. Police were called to two incidents of people with weapons, including someone with a bladed article.
