Kanimozhi calls for spirited checking of voters' list to thwart BJP's plan to have ‘manufactured victory'
Addressing a party workers' meeting held at Senkulam near Palayamkottai on Monday, she said several challenges and obstacles for Tamil and Tamils were being created by the BJP-led Union Government. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was the only person from Tamil Nadu who was questioning the atrocities of the BJP, and the DMK was the only political movement from the State resisting its sinister designs.
The ancientness of Tamil was being obliterated by the Union Government and Hindi was being imposed through the Centre's New Education Policy. Even the Central funds were being denied to Tamil Nadu to hamper its development.
Hence, 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' had been launched to mobilise Tamils under one umbrella to strengthen its resistance. One crore new members had been enrolled in the DMK during the drive. Since each family in Tamil Nadu had received at least one welfare assistance from the government, the DMK had every right to meet the people and seek their support.
The DMK men should tell the people about the betrayal of the AIADMK. At the same time, the drive had given the cadre an opportunity to meet the people at their doorstep instead of election eve. Moreover, 'Ungaludan Stalin' would be launched on Tuesday for mobilising all government departments at one place to take the government services closer to the public. The DMK functionaries should facilitate the exercise.
Ms. Kanimozhi appealed to the party workers to check the voters' list as the BJP was pinning its hopes on preparing a 'fabricated voters' list' for the Assembly election. 'The DMK men should thwart the attempts of opponents by checking the voters' list. We should be prepared to face these challenges and keep the documents ready for including genuine voters and delete the fake ones. It is necessary for the DMK's victory this time.'
During an informal chat with reporters, Ms. Kanimozhi, without naming Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam founder and actor Vijay, said a few actors, who had justified custodial deaths in their movies, were staging a protest against lock-up deaths. 'It is a comedy.'

Tejashwi's 'mutton party' dig at PM ahead of his Bihar visit: He's coming again
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Friday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit to Bihar, fuelling the ongoing controversy over non-vegetarian feasts during the holy month of Sawan and accusing the BJP of "double standards".In a post on X, Tejashwi listed a sarcastic schedule for the Prime Minister's visit, claiming he would begin by "honouring leaders who hold mutton parties during Sawan".advertisement"First of all, he will feel proud to honour leaders who hold mutton parties during Sawan on stage in Motihari, publicly showcasing the double standards of his sermons. He will blame uncontrolled crime in Bihar on governments from five decades ago. He will unleash such a heavy downpour of 'jumlas' (rhetoric) that even Lord Indra will be embarrassed," Tejashwi Yadav said in a post in Hindi. "He will not announce whether Nitish Kumar will remain NDA's Chief Minister after the election. He will excessively use words like Jungle Raj, Opposition, Lalu Prasad, RJD, Muslims, etc," the former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister added. Along with his post, the Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly also shared an image which showed a cartoon potrayal of PM Modi with a note on paper which read: "Bihar bado bado ko deta hai sudhar, dekho! Ye dikhane lage hain pyaar. Fir aa rahe hain Bihar. (Bihar teaches lessons to the mighty, see! Now he is pretending to show love. He is coming back to Bihar again)Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address a public rally in Motihari in East Champaran district today where he will inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 7,000 crore. Assembly elections in Bihar are most likely to be held later this controversy over non-veg feasts during holy months has remained politically sensitive in Bihar. Two years ago, the BJP attacked the Congress-RJD alliance after RJD chief Lalu Prasad hosted a mutton feast during Sawan, attended by Rahul Gandhi. Last year, Prime Minister Modi accused Tejashwi of insulting Hindu sentiments after a video showed him eating fish during Navratri — a clip the BJP still uses to hit back at the Tejashwi Yadav took a jibe at Union Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Lalan Singh for hosting a "mutton party" in Lakhisarai district, which falls under the Munger Lok Sabha constituency, represented by him. When PM comes here tomorrow, I hope he will speak on Lalan Singh, that he is feeding mutton in Sawan," the RJD leader told news agency ANI. - EndsMust Watch

Bengaluru tunnel road sparks fresh clash: Tejasvi Surya dares govt for open debate, alleges mega scam
Bengaluru: The politics surrounding Bengaluru's controversial tunnel road project has taken a fiery turn, with BJP MP Tejasvi Surya launching a direct challenge to the ruling Congress government — accusing it of pushing a 'white elephant' project marred by massive corruption while ignoring real urban mobility solutions. The young Bengaluru South MP, known for his sharp attacks, has not only held a press conference exposing what he claims are shocking facts about the tunnel road's cost-benefit failures but has also thrown down the gauntlet for a live, public debate with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is spearheading the project. Name the time and place, I am ready for an open debate. ' If the Congress government really believes in technical scrutiny and public consultation as it claims, then D.K. Shivakumar must accept this open challenge. Let Bengalureans see for themselves who is telling the truth about this gigantic scam,' Tejasvi posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. Two days ago, Surya had laid out a blistering indictment of the tunnel road plan in a detailed press conference. He claimed that the multi-thousand crore rupee project would benefit only a handful of affluent commuters while draining public money that could be used to expand Metro rail, suburban trains, and city buses. 'This tunnel road will destroy the city's existing infrastructure, displace thousands, and open the floodgates for corruption and misuse of funds. It has zero benefit for common Bengalureans stuck in traffic jams every day. This is a scam in the making, plain and simple,' he had said. Surya presented documents and figures to argue that the cost per kilometer is unjustifiably high, there is no credible feasibility study on traffic decongestion, and land acquisition will fuel real estate speculation to benefit cronies. Unwilling to let the charges go unanswered, the Congress responded with a flurry of posts on X defending the tunnel road as an essential step towards building a 'Brand Bengaluru' of the future. 'This is not about political mileage. This is about integrated mobility for Bengaluru's next generation. Metro, suburban rail, buses and tunnel roads — all of it together will cut travel time, reduce air pollution and boost the economy. Please don't sabotage every project for petty politics,' the party said in its posts. The Congress also claimed that it welcomes 'technical advice and public scrutiny' but accused Surya of grandstanding for the sake of headlines. 'Public audit, technical review and open consultation will always be welcome. But painting every bold vision as a scam stalls Bengaluru's growth. The people want execution, not endless bickering,' the party asserted. Undeterred, Surya doubled down on Wednesday, telling the Congress to stop hiding behind tweets and face the people. 'If you genuinely stand by your plan, debate me publicly. Let experts, citizens, urban planners watch it live. I'm ready. Are you?' he asked, tagging D.K. Shivakumar in his tweet. Surya has also hinted that he will soon submit a memorandum to the Governor and even move court if the government pushes the project without wider consultations and a detailed independent review. Urban transport activists say the government has failed to clearly disclose detailed project reports, cost-benefit studies or independent environmental impact assessments. 'Everything is hush-hush, and that's what makes people suspect another mega scam,' says Suresh Kumar, a member of the Bengaluru Mobility Forum. Meanwhile, the Congress insists the plan is part of a multi-modal strategy to 'decarbonize' city traffic by reducing idling vehicles and creating signal-free corridors. It argues that flyovers and tunnels, if executed properly, can complement mass transport — but admits that the public must be kept in the loop.

Bihar's free electricity promise is ‘Karnataka model': DKS
Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Thursday that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's promise of free electricity up to 125 units is a 'Karnataka model'. Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar claimed that in the entire country, only the Congress party has stood for the welfare of the people. 'After independence till today, whenever Congress party is in power, either in the Centre or in the state, it has given various schemes,' he said. He said it was Karnataka that started the trend with five guarantees. Congress does this for the development of the people. 'But to come to power again, they (BJP) have also used this in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and other parts of the country,' he said. The Deputy CM said whatever Congress party has given in Karnataka, the entire country is following. 'So, it is a Karnataka model to the country.' The Congress government's five guarantee schemes are —200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti), Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family (Gruha Lakshmi), the additional 5 kg of rice to every member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya), Rs 3,000 every month for unemployed graduate youth and Rs 1,500 for diploma holders for two years (Yuva Nidhi), and free travel for women in public transport buses (Shakti). In a major populist move ahead of the upcoming assembly polls, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced free power up to 125 units to all domestic consumers in the state. Kumar came up with the announcement on social media, stating that the benefit will reach 1.67 crore households. He also said the free power benefit will be effective from August 1.
