Police seize £500k worth of cannabis in operation tackling 'Western Balkan' organised crime
The hauls were part of Operation Mille, a national enterprise launched in 2023 tackling Western Balkan organised crime groups across the country - something the force say is 'a growing problem'.
This year's 'intensification week' saw nine warrants executed across Greater Manchester, resulting in the discovery of six cannabis farms.

Subsequently four people were arrested, with three remanded and charged, and one released on bail.
GMP say cannabis cultivation is 'inextricably linked' to serious crime, with the profits "funnelled into fuelling further criminality and exploitation".
As well as posing anti-social behaviour issues for local residents, cannabis farms can also pose a fire hazards due to potentially faulty wiring.
Detective Inspector Abigail Thomas, from GMP's Modern Slavery and Organised Immigration Crime Team, said: 'Organised crime gangs distributing drugs blight our communities, causing fear and harm for residents with total disregard for others, interested solely in their own gain.
'I hope our intensive action sends a clear message to them that we are watching, and we will continue to pursue them and disrupt their criminal activity to protect our communities.
'We would like to let people know that we do take any intelligence submitted by the public seriously, and we will act on it – it plays an important role in our investigations.
'Please, let us know if you have any concerns about drug activity in your local area.'

Man arrested on suspicion of having imitation gun after 'disturbance'
A man has been arrested on suspicion of having an imitation gun after a "disturbance" last night, July 31. Officers were called to reports of a "disturbance" on Barrow Bridge Road at just after 7pm. Police have now confirmed that a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm and remains in custody. Police issue update after nine people arrested in major investigation
Police have issued an update after nine people were arrested following a string of raids in Salford. Officers smashed doors in across Irlam early on Thursday morning (July 31) as Greater Manchester Police targeted an alleged gang. The force had received intelligence to suggest an organised crime group (OCG) in Irlam had been responsible for smuggling at least half-a-million pounds worth of cannabis into the UK through 'fast parcels'. In an update issued today (Friday), GMP confirmed that all nine suspects had since been bailed, pending further enquiries. Officers had also seized £14,000 in cash, a cannabis farm and a further 7kg of the class B drug during the raids. The operation focused on the use of 'fast parcels' to import drugs - high-speed deliveries which are made by ordinary companies, which would be familiar to anyone who has bought items online. Salford is a known hotspot for this type of criminal activity compared to most other areas of Greater Manchester. Detective Inspector Rebecca McGuigan said she was 'confident' the operation on Thursday had 'significantly disrupted the operations of criminality' in Irlam. 'Drugs like these wreak havoc on communities and individuals," she added. "The mental health impact, the added strain on the NHS, and the exploitation of vulnerable people are all consequences of the importation, supply, and use of drugs. "I'm incredibly proud of the team and the work that's gone into this operation. "We're committed to stemming the flow of drugs in Greater Manchester, reducing harm, and bringing those responsible to justice." Village road blocked this evening as emergency services called to incident
A village road was blocked off this evening by a huge emergency response. Police and ambulance were called to Barrow Bridge Road near to the car park of Moss Bank Park. Residents said they had earlier witnessed a police chase, before seeing blue lights on the road. There were also reports a police helicopter was in the area It has not been confirmed by police whether the incidents are linked.
