I tried a £19.99 Home Bargains fan - now I can't live without it

Daily Mirror19-06-2025
With another heatwave underway, now is the ideal time to get your hands on a fan to help bring the temperature down in your home
With temperatures high - and staying that way - this week, many people will be desperately looking for ways to stay cool. I've always struggled with finding the right temperature no matter the weather; I'm always too hot or too cold. However, I might have finally found a good solution.
I bought a £19.99 fan from Home Bargains last year and pulled it out of winter retirement this week to deal with a heatwave. And what a lifesaver it has been.

Cool, compact and quiet, the fan has proven to be a must-have that I couldn't live without. The Pifco 32" Oscillating Tower Fan is also incredibly cheap for what you get, especially considering the high price tags often attached to similar devices.

The fan stands around 84cm tall, making it discreet enough to have in any room and compact enough to store away when not being used. It is much more powerful that a desk fan or some of the smaller devices you'll find on the high street, but may not be quite as impressive as a Dyson or Shark product.
However, the tower fan is still relatively strong, releasing an impressive amount of airflow, making it perfect for use in almost any situation. It comes with three speed settings and an oscillating function.
Super easy to use, the fan is operated using a dial on the top, and can be set to levels one, two or three, in a fixed position or oscillating. It is mains powered, making it easy to move around into different rooms in your home.
The three impressive speeds mean I can swap and change depending on how I feel or how warm it is. I can keep it on one to enjoy a gentle breeze when I'm working at my desk, ramp it up if I'm busy around the house, or switch it up to three for those incredibly warm evenings when I'm struggling to sleep.
I can also confirm that it really is quiet and it just emits just a gentle hum, so low that I'm able to sleep through it.

However, the only thing that lets the product down is the somewhat short power cable. It is only around a metre long, which makes it difficult for those with plug sockets that are few and far between.
The £19.99 fan is a great buy and can be snapped up in Home Bargains stores now. If your local store doesn't have stock or you don't mind waiting a few days, the retailer stocks the fan online too.
Some shoppers could be eligible for Home Bargains' free Saver Delivery option when spending £100 online. The retailer offers 'hassle free' returns to stores too.
Home Bargains also stocks a range of other fans, including the £16.99 Pifco 16" Stand Fan or the smaller Pifco 14" Oscillating Tower Fan for £14.99. For those who prefer a much smaller, personal cooling device, there's the £2.99 Pifco 4" USB Mini Desk Fan or the Pifco Clip-On Fan, priced at £7.99.

Amazon's reduce best-selling vacuum shoppers say is 'better than Shark' to £150

Buyers claim the discounted cleaning gadget rivals big name brands. Amazon has slashed the price of one of its top-selling vacuum cleaners, which customers have compared to pricier models from Dyson and Shark. The Ultenic U20 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner usually sells for £239.99 but is currently on offer for just £149.99. The cordless vacuum cleaner boasts a 600W brushless motor and advanced noise reduction technology, promising to operate 40 percent quieter than traditional models. The floor brush features a four-layer design: stiff bristles (for collecting carpet hair), V-shaped silicone flaps (for deeper cleaning), soft PP bristles (to capture fine dust particles), and durable nylon (to remove pet hair and prevent tangling). Ultenic's U20 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner comes with an extendable arm to reach difficult areas such as under low furniture. The floor brush is equipped with an integrated green light to expose hidden dust. Meanwhile, over at Shark, shoppers can find discounts on bundle deals. For example, this Classic Upright Cleaning Bundle includes a corded upright vacuum cleaner, with two floor modes, and a corded floor mop with three settings. Normally priced at £369.98, it is currently on sale for £281, reports the Mirror. Dyson also has some offers available, including a discount on its best-selling V11 Advanced vacuum. It has been reduced by £80, now available for £349.99, down from £429.99. Shoppers looking to invest in a robot vacuum can snag a bargain at Argos, where the Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Cordless Robot Vacuum Cleaner and Mop is currently on offer for £240, down from its original price of £400, saving them a hefty £160. Although the same deal was available on Shark's website, the gadget has since sold out. The Ultenic U20 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner boasts an impressive customer satisfaction score of 4.8 from Amazon users, with over 1,000 reviews to its name. A satisfied customer praised it as a 'lovely vacuum' with 'good suction', adding: "I have always had a Dyson or Shark. But this is a great alternative, and to be honest, I think it is better than my Shark one." Homewares deal of the week Looking to beat the heat as temperatures continue to rise? Then look no further than Dunelm's White Rechargeable USB Desk Fan that has an almost perfect five star rating for its small, yet mighty, design that means it works "even on the lowest setting." Easy to connect via a USB cable that can be connected to laptops and computers, this desk fan is perfect for those who find themselves working from home on these sweaty, humid summer days. However, it doesn't need to remain plugged-in, as the rechargeable element and compact six-inch design means it can be taken anywhere, even placed on a bedside table overnight on summer nights thanks to its "quiet" operation. It's finished with four speed settings to choose from and an adjustable angle that can help direct the cool breeze where it is needed, unlike other models that can sometimes be stuck in one place. As for Dunelm's own mini desk fan, it has received an impressive 4.8 rating from impressed shoppers who say that, despite its size, it is "surprisingly powerful" and "a literal life-saver" during this kind of weather. One five-star review read: "Fantastic fan, surprisingly powerful, quiet, lasts for quite a long time when charged, very hard to find a decent small rechargeable fan but this is it, will be buying more!" Beat the heat with Dunelm's White Rechargeable USB Desk Fan that costs just £25. Another shopper expressed their contentment, stating they were 'far very pleased with it'. They elaborated: "To try it out, I started vacuuming the house (I had already done it the day before) and couldn't believe how much dust, etc it picked up. The lights on it let you see where the dust is." Continuing their praise, the same buyer remarked: "It is excellent on the stairs, using it hand-held and the pull-out brush. Having previously had a Dyson and a Shark I would say this cleaner is better. "Great that it stands upright too. Coped very well with picking up pet hair and did not get tangled in brush." However, some customers encountered issues with suction power, with one noting: "Very lightweight and easy to set up. Battery life is accurately described. "However, it is not a particularly powerful suction vacuum cleaner. You need to run over the same area several times to get a suitable clean." Another customer stated: "Having previously had a Shark cordless vacuum, I was looking to replace like for like. However, having read all the positive reviews on the Ultenic U20, I decided to go for it. "The Ultenic arrived the next day and was super easy to put together. It's lightweight with a decent-sized dust bin that's really easy to empty and clean."

How to save money at B&M Shoppers have saved hundreds of pounds a year by using B&M's scanner app. The scanner lets you see if an item's price is cheaper than advertised on the shop floor label. Products that are typically discounted are seasonal items and old stock that B&M is trying to shift. The app is free to download off the B&M Stores mobile app via Google Play or the Apple App Store. According to one ex-B&M manager, you'll want to visit your local branch at 10am on a Wednesday too. Here's how you can join the B&M bargain hunt: Download the B&M app for free on any smartphone with an App Store or Google Play. Once you've installed it on your device, click on the option labelled "more" on the bottom, right-hand side of the app home page. You'll then find an option that says "barcode scanner". Click on this and you'll open a camera screen. Use the camera to hover over the barcode of the product you wish to check. If the price comes up as lower, take it to the cash desk and it will automatically scan at the lower price. You don't need to sign up to the B&M app to use the barcode scanner. While it has a slightly longer battery life, this gadget is similar to the B&M version in that it has a hair de-tangling feature and a dust detector sensor. It also helps to identify any overlooked dust by illuminating it and boasts 99.99% advanced filtration. More on cleaning gadgets And Amazon is selling a window-cleaning gadget slashed from £80 to just £46. Plus, Dyson has reduced the price of its V10 vacuum cleaner. Aldi is selling a no-effort household gadget that cuts cleaning time in half. Shoppers can also pick up another no-effort cleaning gadget that's £500 less than a pricier version. Aldi has a similar vacuum available for just £44, and it also rivals a Dyson product.
