Delhi govt inks MoU to strengthen governance, public service delivery
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra; Member (Administration), Capacity Building Commission, Alka Mittal; and other senior officials from the Commission, Karmayogi Bharat and the Delhi government, a statement issued by the Personnel Ministry said.

CM Delhi launches ‘Swachhata Challenge'
Delhi chief minister (CM) Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced that the 'Swachhata Challenge' will be launched soon, as part of the ongoing month-long 'Delhi's Freedom from Garbage' campaign. Aiming to create a network of 'cleanliness champions' across the city, the initiative will start with the nomination of 78 citizens to mark the 78th year of India's independence, each of whom will then have to nominate five more individuals. Gupta also led a cleanliness drive in Sanjay Basti in north Delhi's Timarpur on Tuesday as part of the campaign. (HT Photo) Gupta revealed that prominent public figures will be invited to participate in the initiative, in order to spread more awareness among the public, and inspire the youth. This is being done to mobilise public participation to increase cleanliness across the city, stated by the CM to be one of the main aims of the campaign. 'To further energise the campaign, notable celebrities will also be engaged, bringing greater visibility and momentum to the mission,' she said. Gupta also led a cleanliness drive in Sanjay Basti in north Delhi's Timarpur on Tuesday as part of the campaign, where she joined residents of the locality in cleaning the area, and noted that significant improvements have been made in the area's sanitation. Delhi mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, and member of legislative assembly from Timarpur Suryaprakash Khatri also joined the CM in the drive, along with residents welfare and civil society organisations, and local residents.

Withdraw free symbols, bring back ballot system: BRS urges EC
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has asked Election Commission (EC) for the immediate withdrawal of eight free symbols and permanent safeguards to protect the visual identity of state-recognised parties, particularly in states where they are dominant players. The party said there was persistent misuse of free symbols that closely resemble its reserved election symbol, the car. In particular, the party flagged eight free symbols — camera, chapati roller, dolli, road roller, soap dish, television, sewing machine, and ship — which, when displayed in small sizes on EVMs and ballot papers, are indistinguishable from the car symbol, especially for illiterate and elderly voters. These included abusive and derogatory statements by leaders of rival parties, disparities in the Commission's response to complaints filed by BRS versus those filed against it, and inaction on the model code of conduct violations, including misuse of social media, hate speech, and politicisation of govt events. KTR also submitted a detailed representation to EC urging the constitutional body to address critical concerns affecting electoral integrity and a level-playing field. He highlighted four major issues: the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls underway in Bihar, the party's call for a return to paper ballots, the repeated misuse of identical free symbols that dilute the party's identity, and non-action on past representations regarding violations of the model code of conduct (MCC). BRS has called for a withdrawal of the current SIR in Bihar and also expressed its concerns over the continued use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), citing growing public distrust and international precedents. "BRS would like to voice its serious concern about suspicions over the usage of electronic voting machines. Several media reports to this effect have surfaced over the last few years. Many political parties, activists, and voters have also expressed their concerns about the usage of EVMs," BRS mentioned in its letter. It urged EC to consider reinstating paper ballots, starting with the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in Nov 2025, to restore public confidence in the democratic process.

Prince Harry says ‘damage done' after Sentebale probe clears him of wrongdoing: ‘The kids will pay the price'
Prince Harry has responded to the criticism after the UK's Charity Commission wrapped its investigation into Sentebale, the African charity he co-founded nearly two decades ago with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. While the Commission found no evidence of bullying, misogyny, or racism within the organisation, clearing Harry of the accusations brought forward by current chair Dr. Sophie Chandauka, the damage, the Duke says, is already done. On August 5, the investigating commission said it found 'no overreach' by either Harry or Chandauka. The controversy began earlier this year with a major fallout inside the charity's board. Things got out of hand by March 2025, and the Duke, along with the entire board resigned. In a joint statement, they called the working relationship with Chandauka 'beyond repair' and said they could no longer serve under those conditions. They also claimed she was asked to step down but refused, and instead sued others to hold her position. But while both walked away clean, the Commission slammed the charity's leadership for its failure to handle disputes internally and for letting the mess spill out in full view, damaging not just Sentebale, but trust in charities overall. In response to the report, a spokesperson for Harry welcomed the Commission's findings but made it clear, the Duke isn't satisfied. The spokesperson said that although the report found no fault with Harry, the consequences of the drama wouldn't be borne by either Chandauka or the board, but by the children the charity was created to help. Earlier, in a statement responding to the finding, a spokesperson of Harry told PEOPLE, 'Unsurprisingly, the Commission makes no findings of wrongdoing in relation to Sentebale's Co-Founder and former Patron, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.' They added, 'Despite all that, their report falls troublingly short in many regards, primarily the fact that the consequences of the current Chair's actions will not be borne by her — but by the children who rely on Sentebale's support.' They established it 19 years ago and in that time put in blood, sweat and tears and their own money into building this charity up to what it was: a multi-million pound charity that delivered nothing but good for the beneficiary community that is supported in Lesotho and Botswana,' the source told PEOPLE. Dr. Sophie Chandauka, meanwhile, issued her own statement. She said the report backed the governance concerns she had flagged earlier in 2025. Reflecting on what she called a pressure test for the organisation's resilience, she claimed Sentebale had kept serving tens of thousands of young people in Lesotho and Botswana. 'The unexpected adverse media campaign that was launched by those who resigned on 24 March 2025 has caused incalculable damage and offers a glimpse of the unacceptable behaviours displayed in private. We are emerging not just grateful to have survived, but stronger: more focused, better governed, boldly ambitious and with our dignity intact.'
