Chandigarh police bust inter-state gang of vehicle lifters, kingpin among 4 held
The operation cell of UT police have busted an interstate autolifters' gang, known as 'Munna Gang', which is allegedly involved in a series of auto thefts across Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. Police arrested three key gang members, including the kingpin, and one receiver of stolen property, cracking 11 vehicle theft cases in the process. On June 26, a police naka was set up near the National Institute of Technical Teacher Training and Research (NITTTR), Sector 26. The team stopped a Splendor motorcycle and the rider, Aslam, failed to produce valid documents. Its theft had been reported in an e-FIR on June 15, 2025, at the IT Park police station.
During questioning, Aslam disclosed the whereabouts of his accomplices, who were roaming in Manimajra with a stolen Bullet motorcycle. Police promptly acted on the input, deployed a team, and arrested Manoj Thakur alias Munna and Navneet Pratap Singh near the Sports Complex, Manimajra. The Bullet motorcycle was found to have been stolen.
Based on further disclosures, police recovered three Honda City cars, three Honda Activa scooters, four Hero Splendor motorcycles, a Royal Enfield bullet, eight vehicle batteries and stolen vehicle documents.
The gang operated by parking stolen vehicles in various areas in Chandigarh and later transporting them to Ludhiana for resale, often dismantling parts like batteries to sell separately. During the police remand, the team raided a location in Ludhiana and arrested Jaiparkash alias Betia, the property receiver. Eight batteries and several stolen vehicle documents were seized from his possession.
The arrested individuals include: Manoj Thakur alias Munna, 40, a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and a history-sheeter who faces over 33 FIRs in the region. He is also a proclaimed offender in several cases. Aslam, 57, is a resident of Ludhiana, who is involved in multiple cases including theft, kidnapping, and assault across Punjab, Panchkula, Mohali, and Chandigarh. Navneet Pratap Singh, 33, is from Kanpur, with a prior Excise Act violation. Jaiparkash alias Betia, 36, is a scrap dealer from Ludhiana with no prior criminal record.
All accused have been sent to two-day police custody.

Truck kills woman riding pillion in Bengaluru, driver held
Bengaluru: A 52-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter was killed after a speeding cement truck knocked her down near the NICE Road entry at Veerabhadranagar junction along Nayandahalli Ring Road on Sunday afternoon. Alert commuters rushed the injured to Dayanand Sagar Hospital in Kumaraswamy Layout. However, doctors declared Renuka as dead on arrival. The truck driver was arrested soon after the accident and has been booked under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(A) (act endangering life), and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He tested negative on the alcometer.

Three drunk friends pose as cops, steal bike; caught
New Delhi: What began as a night of revelry turned into a misguided act of thrill-seeking and crime. Garvit Sharma (25), a BCA graduate, Prashant Kumar (22), a graduate, and Aniket (23), who holds an MCA degree, had been close friends since their college days. On June 26, after consuming alcohol, the trio hatched a reckless plan—to impersonate police officers and steal a motorcycle. Their target was Amarpal Singh, a security guard riding his Hero Splendor motorcycle near the Mahipalpur underpass. Garvit blocked Singh's path while the others posed as police officers, falsely accusing him of rash driving. Prashant snatched the keys from Singh, and when the victim demanded to see their identification, Aniket responded by allegedly slapping him. Prashant then fled on the bike, while Garvit and Aniket escaped on their Bajaj Enticer. Next morning, IGI Airport Police swung into action. After verifying Siddharth's alibi and confirming with the victim that he was not involved, police focused their attention on Garvit. "The team tracked down Garvit, who confessed to the crime. He further revealed the involvement of his friends, Prashant and Aniket. Police then apprehended the duo as well," police said. During probe, the accused cited their intoxicated state and a misguided desire for excitement as the motive behind their actions. All three were arrested, said police.

3 ‘drunk' men pose as Delhi cops, rob bike to experience thrill; arrested
Three men staged a heist in the national capital on Thursday by posing as Delhi Police personnel to allegedly seek a thrill. The police said the trio took away a security guard's bike near Aerocity, claiming that he was driving rashly. The three accused, Garvit Sharma, 25, Aniket Singh, and Prashanth Kumar, were arrested in different parts of Delhi on Friday. The victim, Amarpal Singh, 47, an Etah native and a security guard with GMR RAXA at Worldmark II in Aerocity, made a PCR call around 7.30 pm on Thursday. 'The complainant stated on June 26, 2025, around 7.10 pm, while he was on his way to Aerocity riding his Splendor, he was stopped near the Mahipalpur underpass by three individuals on another motorcycle. These individuals falsely claimed to be police officers and accused him of rash driving,' Usha Rangnani, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), Indira Gandhi International, said. One of the accused reportedly snatched the key to Amarpal Singh's Splendor bike and hurled abuses at him when he asked the three to show some ID. Aniket Singh then slapped Amarpal Singh as Prashanth Kumar rode away on his bike. The other two, Garvit Sharma and Aniket Singh, followed Prashanth Kumar on the black bike that they arrived on. 'During the course of the investigation, all available CCTV cameras at and around the scene of the incident were meticulously examined. Three specialised teams were constituted under the leadership of Inspector Sumit, Inspector Satish, and Inspector Avdesh, and an analysis of approximately 250 to 300 CCTV cameras spread across the possible routes of the accused was done,' Rangnani said. Siddharth, during the investigation, revealed that he lent his bike about a year ago to his friend, Garvit Sharma. The police raided Sharma's house, but found that he was missing. Based on intelligence, Sharma was finally tracked at his hideout in Palam. Thereafter, Aniket Singh was arrested in Kishangarh, while Prashanth Kumar was nabbed in Dashrath Puri. 'Garvit and Prashant travelled to Kishangarh on Garvit's motorcycle on June 26 (Thursday). There, they called Aniket, and the three friends decided to consume alcohol together. As per their plan, they purchased a bottle of liquor from a nearby shop and consumed it in a park. While under the influence of alcohol, Prashant, reportedly intoxicated, expressed a desire to do something 'thrilling'. Acting on this impulse, they conspired to rob a motorcycle by impersonating police officers,' Rangnani said.
