FRISCO - Star edge rusher Micah Parsons and coach Brian Schotteheimer hooked up on the phone over the weekend.

That was fun.
On Tuesday, Micah is in attendance here at The Star for the start of mandatory minicamp, with a now-revealed plan to participate in the workouts.
"He will be on the field doing some stuff,'' Schotty told us before the practice session.
This follows up a viral social media trend where people call their friends out of the blue to say "goodnight". ... with Micah having called Tyler Smith, Trevon Diggs, Osa Odighizuwa and KaVontae Turpin ... and then seeing things turning a bit serious when Parsons called first-year coach Schottenheimer.
"Look, I know this is weird for everybody man, but look you're handling everything the right way, bro," Schotty said after Parsons explained how he reached out to check on his coach.

Schottenheimer, of course, was referencing Parsons' ongoing contract negotiations.
"This thing's going to get worked out, and again I'm thrilled to see where we take this thing, man,'' the coach said. "We're building something special and you're going to be a huge part of it, bro."
This "promise" from Schotty is reassuring news that Parsons will soon be signed to a long-term deal to stay in Dallas. Regardless of how much the contract is worth - what CowboysCountry.com reports could touch $40 million a year - fans will be glad that things are finally settled.
And Micah's response that night to the coach?

"See you Monday," Parsons said during the call, a hint to his attendance at the upcoming mandatory minicamp festivities this week.
After a team dinner Monday, the Cowboys have three days of work. Then they have six weeks off before flying to Oxnard for training camp.
To this point, Parsons has vowed to not use a holdout as leverage in his negotiations. Tuesday is the first official day for progress on this "promise" issued by Schottenheimer.
Micah has stated how important it is to him to be with the team and with this coach.
And so here he is.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott is at his most dangerous right now, with nothing to prove

Every player lives out a character arc. In 2025, Dak Prescott's is quiet, dangerous, and slow-burning, the kind of season that says more with execution than explanation. Last summer, Dak Prescott stood at the center of uncertainty. Talks of an extension loomed over every news story. CeeDee Lamb, Prescott's best offensive weapon, was absent from training camp due to his own contract negotiations. The return of Ezekiel Elliott brought the warm and fuzzies, but didn't solve much, leaving the state of the run game still in question. With shoddy depth at offensive tackle and a lame duck coach at the helm, buy-in was a mystery. The usual pillars of Prescott's success were either absent or unstable, and when the season began the pressure was still on him. When Week 1 kicked off, ink barely dry on the deal that made him the league's top-paid quarterback, questions about whether he deserved it came fast. At first, the answer was affirmative. The Week 1 win against the Browns? Loud. Promising. Hopeful. But it didn't last. The offense sputtered, the stats dipped, and the Cowboys slipped to 3-5 before Dak's season ended with a brutal injury and a trip to the surgeon's table. Prescott ended 2024 with the lowest passer rating and QBR of his career, on pace to break personal records for interceptions and sacks taken. It wasn't just a bad year. It was a murky one. Who was to blame? Was it the protection? The play-calling? Or was it Prescott himself? Depends on whose asked. Things have reached the point in the Prescott discourse where no one's changing their mind. If one supports him, the argument goes something like this. Lamb held out. The protection was a mess. The offense was searching for identity. Those folks are looking ahead to what could be a new play-caller with a revamped O-Line and newly-acquired weapons. If one doesn't believe, they're not waiting to be convinced by training camp quotes or Instagram clips of uncontested passes. There's no budging until the NFC title game is in hand. Which means for once, Prescott doesn't have to win the debate. He just has to play ball. For the first time in years, Prescott enters a season where the noise doesn't matter. He's not here to win hearts or change minds. He's here to move the chains. Changing minds takes a body of work, and that won't come for weeks, maybe not until season's end. The story is stuck until January anyway. So why waste energy trying to shape it? Hot takes will fly. They always do. But nothing meaningful can be proven for months. And Prescott, if he's smart (which he is), should treat that like a gift. No arguments. No off-field battles. No mental drain trying to justify things before they unfold. All he has to do is lead. Stay healthy. Be consistent. Week after week. Play after play. Series after series. And honestly? That's the dream. No PR spin. No politics. Just execution. Since the injury, all that's been seen are glimpses — clips of Prescott working out or throwing, looking lean and sharp. And sure, they're encouraging, but anyone who knows football knows better. Training footage is curated. Quarterbacking is chaos. And nothing posted in July can replicate the toll of October or the stakes of December. The real questions don't live in July. They live in the weekly grind; in the hits, the reads, the cold stretches where a rhythm must be found. That's what makes this year so compelling. Because for the first time in a long time, Prescott doesn't have to talk his way through the noise. He just has to outlast it. So what does a man do when the noise fades and all that's left is the work? Observers about to find out. Follow Cowboys Wire on Facebook to join in on the conversation with fellow fans!

Penn State Ranks Inside Top Five in EA Sports College Football 26, QB Drew Allar Makes Rating Jump

Penn State Ranks Inside Top Five in EA Sports College Football 26, QB Drew Allar Makes Rating Jump originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After making a deep run in the college football playoffs last year, and garnering another top tier roster going into the 2025 season, Penn State has gained the respect of the rating makers on EA Sports College Football 26. Advertisement Last year before the highly anticipated game was released, the Nittany Lions ranked as the 9th best team in the game. They now sit in the four spot, although they have the same rating as they did last season, 88 overall. Nevertheless they saw a rise in their ranking, and are ranked as the second ranked team in the BIG 10, behind Ohio State who is number three on the list. Starting quarterback for Penn State Drew Allar did see a rise in his individual rating. He decided to forgo the NFL draft and come back for his senior season at Penn State. With back to back seasons of great numbers the rating makers seem to think Allar is due for a leap. His first full season as a starter in his sophomore season Allar threw for 2,631 yards. He also had 25 touchdown passes flanked by just two interceptions. Last year he threw for 3,327 yards, 24 TDs, and eight INTs. Advertisement Allar is ranked as the third highest overall quarterback prior to the game's release at a 92 overall. Last year before the game was released Allar was rated an 88 overall. Allar again this year is surrounded by some of college football's weapons. It would not be shocking by the end of the season that people look up and he is the highest rated QB on the game. He is walking into his last season of college ball with things you can not teach. He has top-level arm strength, top-level talent around him, and most importantly experience. He has played at the some of the biggest stages you can in his career, and has faced some of college football's best teams. In 2025 there is not a lot of things that will catch Allar off guard. Blue Jays Announce George Springer News After Leaving Yankees Game

Blue Jays Announce George Springer News After Leaving Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays secured a hard-fought 5-4 win over the New York Yankees on Monday night at Rogers Centre, earning back-to-back victories to gain ground in the AL East. The game remained scoreless through three innings before the Yankees broke through in the fourth, scoring twice to take an early lead. Toronto didn't let that advantage last long, answering with a crucial four-run rally in the sixth to swing the momentum their way. Advertisement Leading 5-3 going into the seventh, the Blue Jays were dealt an unexpected blow when George Springer had to leave the game following a scary collision at third base. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (4) and New York Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. (13) © Nick Turchiaro-Imagn Images Springer slid aggressively into Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. and appeared to take a knee to the throat or windpipe area. He stayed down in visible discomfort before trainers helped him off the field for immediate evaluation. After the final out, the Blue Jays announced via manager John Schneider that Springer took a knee to the throat and was having trouble breathing but added that he was 'OK' after receiving medical attention — a positive sign given the nature of the collision. Advertisement Before exiting, Springer had managed to reach base twice, continuing his steady production near the top of Toronto's order. The veteran outfielder left the game batting .263 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs this season. Toronto will now hope Springer's injury is nothing more than a short-term scare as the team pushes to stay in the American League postseason race. With the All-Star break approaching, keeping one of their most experienced players healthy will be key to maintaining momentum after a gutsy win.
