Two soldiers nabbed for attempted cattle theft in Jasin
JASIN: Two soldiers were arrested for attempting to steal cattle from a livestock pen in Simpang Bekoh here.
Jasin OCPD Supt Mohamad Rusli Mat said the two confessed to investigation officers that they tried to steal in a bid to sell the animals during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration next month.
"The duo's botched attempt took place at 1am on Saturday (May 24) and was discovered by the owner of the cattle and goat pen after being alerted by a friend.
"The owner's friend alerted the other villagers after seeing one of the suspects entering the pen, which contained 10 cows and 22 goats while the other accomplice was seen waiting in a saloon car nearby," he said on Sunday (May 25).
Supt Mohamad Rusli said several villagers attempted to apprehend the suspects, but they managed to flee the scene.
"The suspects later lost control and crashed into a river barrier. They then surrendered themselves at the Jasin police headquarters at about 2.30pm on Saturday (May 24)," he said.
Supt Mohamad Rusli said preliminary investigations revealed they intended to sell the cattle to meet demand during the festive season in June.
"They also confessed to being involved in a previous case involving the theft of a cow in the same area," he added.

Driver suffers heart attack, dies from crash in Kota Tinggi
KOTA TINGGI: A 46-year-old man died after suffering a heart attack while driving, causing him to ram into two stationary vehicles in a residential area here. Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said police received a report about the incident at Jalan Teratai, Felda Bukit Aping Barat at around 10.22pm on Saturday (June 28). "The incident involved three vehicles, including a van. "The victim is believed to have suffered from a heart attack before losing control of his car. He said that the impact of the collision caused the male driver to sustain severe internal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He said the victim's body was taken to the forensic unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital for further examination and post-mortem procedure. 'Post-mortem results have confirmed that the victim had suffered a heart attack," Supt Yusof said. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Two die in five-vehicle crash in Kota Tinggi
KOTA TINGGI: Two friends lost their lives in a five-vehicle crash, believed to have been caused by a car that veered out of control along Jalan Sungai Rengit - Kota Tinggi. Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the incident occurred at KM66 around 4.10pm on Friday (June 28). "Initial investigations found that a 26-year-old male driver lost control of his car, which then crashed into three vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. "The impact of the collision caused another car, driven by a 68-year-old man, to lose control before ramming into a lorry," he said in a statement. Supt Yusof added that the man and his 73-year-old passenger both suffered major head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims' bodies were taken to the forensic unit of Kota Tinggi hospital for further examination and a post-mortem procedure. "Two other male drivers aged 26 and 27, also involved in the crash, were taken to the same hospital for medical treatment," he added. Meanwhile, a 49-year-old lorry driver and a 30-year-old female driver were detained by police to assist with the investigation. He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. "The public is advised to always stay alert and obey traffic laws and regulations to ensure everyone's safety on the road," he said. Earlier, the Kota Tinggi fire and rescue department reported that a five-vehicle collision near Felda Pasak resulted in the deaths of two elderly men, while nine others, including a baby, survived. Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue chief Mohd Shawaluddin Ami Nordin said a total of eleven victims were involved in the incident. He added that the two deceased have been identified as Thai Toon, aged 68, and Lor Ah Kwee, aged 73, were travelling in one of the cars and were found trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Businessman loses over RM930,000 to college scam
KUALA TERENGGANU: A businessman lost RM932,300 after falling victim to a bogus college procurement project in Kemaman. Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor said the 52-year-old victim received a WhatsApp message on May 28 from a man claiming to be a representative of the college. He said the suspect offered the victim a closed tender for the supply of portable generator sets. 'The victim made deposits totalling RM932,300 into two different bank accounts using company funds and personal savings. 'However, upon checking with the college, the victim discovered that no such tender had been offered,' ACP Azli said in a statement, Bernama reported. The victim lodged a police report at 11.53pm on Friday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
