
Police investigate after someone else spends S$400+ of family's SG60 vouchers
According to a report in Shin Min Daily News on Sunday (Jul 13), someone else had used more than S$400 of the SG60 vouchers belonging to the household of a certain Mr Li, which had received a total of S$800 in vouchers.
On Jul 2, the 64-year-old resident of Chinatown had claimed his vouchers at Kreta Ayer Community Club. To make it convenient for him, they were printed out by a staffer.
The problem with the vouchers first came up on Jul 5, when his wife attempted to use S$12 in merchant vouchers when she was making a payment. She was told that one of the vouchers worth S$10 had already been used.
The following day, Mr Li, who lives in Chinatown, attempted to use vouchers worth S$20 at a Sheng Siong grocery. To his surprise, he was informed that one of the vouchers he presented, also worth S$10, had already been used.
When he alerted the community club staff about the issue, they asked Mr Li if any of his other family members had used the vouchers. After finding out from his two sons that they had not, Mr Li proceeded to lodge a report at the Police Cantonment Complex on Jul 7.
An officer helped him access the transaction record of the vouchers via Mr Li's SingPass account. It showed that the person who used them began doing so on Jul 3, the day after they had been claimed.
He also found out that the person who had used their household's vouchers had spent S$417 by Jul 12. In contrast, he and his wife had spent just S$42.
Many of their vouchers were used in establishments such as a Jalan Kukoh medical hall, Old Airport Food Centre, and Redhill Food Centre—all of which are some distance from where Mr Li and his family live.
He said that his vouchers were used to buy food such as buns, fish ball noodles, economy rice, and nasi lemak.
Also, when the vouchers were used at a store in Chinatown, he asked if he could watch the camera footage from the store, in an attempt to find the person responsible for using their vouchers. He was told, however, that only the authorities can do so.
All this came as a complete surprise to Mr Li and his wife, who have never claimed nor shared their vouchers online.
The police confirmed with Shin Min Daily News that Mr Li had filed a police report and that they are looking into the matter. /TISG

Man faces attempted murder charge over alleged knife attack at Kallang Wave Mall
SINGAPORE: A 26-year-old man will be charged on Tuesday (Jul 15) for the attempted murder of a 29-year-old woman at Kallang Wave Mall, police said. Singapore retiree loses half of SG60 vouchers to suspected misuse, police investigating
SINGAPORE: A 64-year-old retiree in Singapore has found himself at the centre of an investigation after discovering that nearly half of his SG60 vouchers were used without his knowledge. Lee, who spoke to Shin Min Daily News, said he collected his S$800 worth of SG60 vouchers on 2 July, a day after they became available to seniors aged 60 and above. The vouchers, printed by staff at Kreta Ayer Community Club, were in physical form, in denominations of S$10, S$5 and S$2. Lee used a S$10 voucher at a supermarket on 4 July without issue. However, the following day, his wife attempted to use three S$10 vouchers and a S$2 voucher at Bee Cheng Hiang, but staff informed her that one S$10 voucher had already been redeemed. Suspecting an error, Lee tried to use two S$10 vouchers at Sheng Siong Supermarket on 6 July, only to be told that one was no longer valid. He returned to Kreta Ayer Community Club to clarify the matter. According to Lee, staff at the community club asked if a family member had used the vouchers. To confirm, Lee called his two sons on the spot; both denied using them. The staff then advised him to lodge a police report. Lee filed the report on 7 July. With the help of police officers, he logged into his Singpass account and discovered that S$459 worth of vouchers had been redeemed on 3 July by an unknown party. Only S$42 had been used by Lee and his wife. The remaining balance had been spent without their knowledge, despite the physical vouchers being in their possession. The police have previously warned the public to be cautious of phishing scams linked to SG60 vouchers. In an advisory on 4 July, police reminded Singaporeans that they would never be asked via calls, emails, or social media to share personal credentials or bank details to claim SG60 vouchers. They also stressed that no payments or unofficial mobile applications are required to claim the vouchers. To avoid scams, the public is advised to use the native QR scanning function on their devices instead of third-party apps. For those who need help claiming digital vouchers, Community Clubs and SG Digital Community Hubs offer assistance. More than 450,000 seniors have already claimed their SG60 vouchers since 1 July. This accounts for over 40 per cent of Singapore's 1.1 million seniors, according to Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling. The SG60 vouchers, a one-off initiative to mark Singapore's 60th year of independence, offer S$800 for citizens aged 60 and above. Singaporeans aged 21 to 59 will be able to claim S$600 worth of vouchers from 22 July.

Woman gets injured after PMD hit-and-run; has a message for the rider

The incident occurred at around 7:15 a.m. After she got hit, the rider made a run for it and quickly disappeared. She posted photos of the bright red skin abrasions she sustained on her right knee, the lower part of the palm of her right hand, and the area near the elbow of her left arm. Screenshot Despite her injuries, she had a message for the person on the PMD. 'If the rider comes forward and apologises and compensates my bills (with receipt), I won't pursue further,' she wrote. Many people have shared her post. Some of the commenters on her post have urged her to report to the authorities. 'Hit and run, sure cannot find the PMD on your own.
