Police nab foreign duo caught after high-speed chase, seize meth
PONTIAN: An attempt by two foreigners to evade a police inspection failed when they were apprehended following a 15-kilometre chase, leading to the seizure of drugs believed to be methamphetamine last night.
District police chief, Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib, said the incident occurred at about 10pm when the driver of a car refused to stop after being ordered to pull over by a police mobile patrol unit along Jalan Kampung Parit Haji Othman, Seri Bunian, for inspection.
He said the driver ignored the order and instead sped off towards Jalan Kampung Tenggayon, prompting a police pursuit that stretched for approximately 15 kilometres.
"Police managed to stop the vehicle at the traffic lights along Jalan Sungai Gurap.
"Upon inspection, the car was found to be driven by a male foreigner, accompanied by a female passenger, also a foreign national," he said in a statement today.
Mohammad Shofee said further checks led to the discovery of two transparent plastic packets believed to contain methamphetamine, weighing 7.94g and 0.65g, inside the suspects' vehicle.
He added that both suspects failed to produce any valid identification documents.
The case is being investigated under the Penal Code, the Immigration Act, the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Road Transport Act 1987.

TAWAU: A dispute between two men believed to be under the influence of alcohol turned violent when one of them was stabbed outside a supermarket here yesterday afternoon. Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the victim lying on the ground with serious injuries. Several bystanders were seen surrounding him at the scene. The victim was later rushed to hospital for treatment.

Senior citizen killed, nine injured in van crash on Kunak-Lahad Datu road
KUNAK: A 74-year-old substitute driver was killed while nine others were injured in a van crash at Km29 of Jalan Kunak-Lahad Datu around 7am today. Acting Kunak police chief Assistant Superintendent Reduan Rahman said the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the Hiace van, causing it to veer off to the right side of the road. "The van, carrying 10 passengers, was travelling from Semporna to Sandakan. "Four passengers sustained minor injuries, while five were seriously injured," he said when contacted. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue operation commander Mohd Ridzuan Shahidun said the department received an emergency call at 7.19am and arrived at the scene at 7.50am. He said the van was found on the road shoulder. The driver, who was trapped in the seat, was extricated using Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) equipment before being handed over to the police. The passengers, aged between 46 and 75, received initial treatment before being taken to hospital using the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle and an ambulance.

Young suspects: The five MRSM students being remanded to assist in investigations over the bullying case in Kuala Terengganu. — Bernama KUALA TERENGGANU: Five students have been remanded to assist investigations in a bullying case at Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut. The three-day remand order, which expires tomorrow, was issued by Senior Assistant Registrar Yuhanis Mohd Roslan at the Magistrate's Court here yesterday. The five students, aged between 15 and 17, were remanded for investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code, Bernama reported. Besut police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said a Form Two student lodged a report alleging he was bullied by several Form Three students around 11.30pm on Tuesday. In a statement on Thursday, he said the boy suffered pain in his abdomen and right rib, as well as bruises on his back. The incident was discovered by a dormitory warden who informed the victim's family.
