Will not demand 2A reservation as long as Siddaramaiah remains CM, says Seer

BELAGAVI: Kudalasangama Basava Jayamruthyunjaya Swamiji has declared that the Panchamasali community will not demand 2A reservation as long as Siddaramaiah remains the state's chief minister.
Speaking to media in Belagavi on Friday, the seer said, 'During the Assembly session, the government tried to suppress the Panchamasali movement by resorting to lathicharge. For this reason, we have decided not to seek reservation during Siddaramaiah's tenure.'
He expressed happiness over the High Court's rejection of the Karnataka government's petition in connection with the lathicharge incident and said 'The government, acting illegally and in collusion with the police, unleashed a deadly assault on peaceful protestors. We had demanded that the officers responsible for the unl wful assault be suspended. Following this, we staged a nine-day agitation to press our demands, but the State Government remained indifferent,' he said.
'We then moved the High Court, questioning the wrongful actions of the government. On April 4, HC accepted our petition and delivered a historic verdict. It directed that an investigation be conducted by a bench of three judges within three months.
However, even after the three-month deadline, the government has made no effort to initiate an invest-igation. It appears the government is now filled with regret,' he added.

Siddaramaiah releases Rs 50 crore to each MLA amid pressure over fund shortage

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has approved the release of Rs 50 crore in development grants for each MLA, following weeks of internal discussions and mounting pressure from party legislators who had complained of fund shortages. The move comes after a series of one-on-one meetings that several Congress legislators held with state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, where they expressed concern over the lack of financial support to carry out developmental work in their meetings took place at the Congress party office in Bengaluru, where the legislators reiterated that the delay in fund disbursal was stalling key infrastructure projects in both urban and rural segments. Following the MLAs' representations, Surjewala is learnt to have taken up the matter with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, during separate meetings held in Bengaluru and Delhi. After several rounds of internal deliberations, the Chief Minister has now sanctioned the long-pending allocation, as was originally proposed in the state budget. Each MLA will receive Rs 50 crore towards constituency development, with the funds earmarked for infrastructure works such as roads and July 17, fresh concerns were raised again, this time by an Independent MLA supporting the Congress-led government. Darshan Puttannaiah, who represents Melukote in Mandya district, said the funds released were not enough to meet the needs of rural areas. Acknowledging the fiscal pressure of the five Guarantee schemes, he said there was a need to balance social welfare commitments with infrastructure development.'You know the financial situation and why we are not getting funds. They have given money now but we need more funds. This is not adequate, you know how many villages don't have roads and drains. There are 236 villages and we need Rs 5-10 crore for each. It is going for that (Guarantees) as well. We have to give it to that (Guarantees) and give funds. Both can't be done together,' Puttannaiah month, Congress MLA from Kagwad, Raju Kage, threatened to resign over prolonged delays in executing development works in his constituency, blaming the state administration for inaction. Kage expressed frustration that not a single work order had been issued, two years after the Chief Minister approved a Rs 25 crore special MLA accused the state machinery of complete failure and said he was disheartened by the lack of progress. 'I am so disheartened that I am even considering resigning. Don't be surprised if I go and submit my resignation to the Chief Minister in the next two days,' he had timely release of the grants is likely to ease discontent within the Congress legislature party, where some MLAs had publicly criticised the government's delay. It is also expected to boost grassroots-level development in the lead-up to civic and local body elections across the state.- Ends IN THIS STORY#Karnataka

Jagga Reddy asks KTR to explain purpose of secret meeting with AP IT minister Nara Lokesh

Congress senior leader and former MLA T. Jagga Reddy questioned the credibility of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao and asked him to explain the alleged secret meetings he had with Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh. 'Was the meeting held at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or not?' he asked at a press conference held in Hyderabad, further demanding that KTR should explain to the people the purpose of such a secret meeting. 'Is there any conspiracy and are you part of it?' he asked. Responding to BRS leaders' taunts on why Mr. Revanth Reddy doesn't chant 'Jai Telangana,' Mr Jagga Reddy sought to know why the BRS had taken out the Telangana word from its party's name. 'Is it not the BRS that has insulted Telangana?' he asked, appealing them to introspect before criticising others. Mr. Jagga Reddy also ridiculed the BRS narrative that Mr. Revanth Reddy was a disciple of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. 'Before Mr. Revanth Reddy even entered the Assembly, KCR was a three-time MLA, Minister, and Deputy Speaker in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) under Mr. Naidu. Should we not talk about that history?' he asked. Mr. Jagga Reddy claimed that KCR was afraid to face Mr. Revanth Reddy, and that is why he was deliberately skipping the Assembly sessions. 'After being in power for 10 years, questions will be asked, and KCR doesn't have those answers for destroying Telangana.' Taking a dig at senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao, the former MLA called him a 'great actor' and accused him of making baseless allegations against Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who is known for his integrity, and has served in the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot. Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy would not run away from challenges and he is used to face them bravely.

Next cabinet meet will discuss panel report on Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah

Eleven people died and many were injured in the incident. Responding to a question on demand by several people, including retired Supreme Court Justice V Gopala Gowda for immediate constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the alleged mass murder, rape, and mass burials in Dharmasthala, over the past two decades, the CM said, the government will go ahead in the case in accordance with the law, based on police department's report. "If SIT is necessary, it will be constituted. It will be based on the police department's report. The individual (eyewitness, a former sanitation worker who claimed that "hundreds of bodies" had been buried in the area), was absconding for 10 years, he has now made a statement before the police and has said whatever he has to. He has said that he is the one who has buried the dead bodies and that he will show the spot where they are buried. Let's see what the police say in a couple of days," he said. Asserting that there was no pressure on the government in this case, the CM said, "even if the pressure is put, we will not heed to anything, we will do things in accordance with law." Replying to a question on opposition BJP's criticism of his government's mega "Sadhana Samavesha" convention in Mysuru, planned on Saturday, Siddaramaiah said, development works worth Rs 2,658 crore will be inaugurated and foundation stones will be laid during the event. "Is it being done just like that." He questioned what the BJP has done for Mysuru. Amid speculations that the event was Siddaramaiah's show of strength to strengthen his grip over CM seat, he clarified that it is no one's show of strength. It was aimed at showcasing the Congress government's work before the people, because BJP is spreading misinformation that the government was not doing anything and it doesn't have money because of implementation of guarantee schemes. To a question on urban voters not supporting Congress during elections, Siddarmaihah said, it cannot be said outrightly. It is with support of all voters the party has come to power. He cited the examples of Mysuru and Bengaluru. Downplaying a question on curiosity surrounding "September revolution" as claimed by some Congress leaders, amid speculation about CM change, he said, "ask those who said it. Even if those who have said are from my party, they have not told me about it. Ask them."
