Madison Keys latest Wimbledon seed to fall after grass masterclass from Laura Siegemund

THE ALL ENGLAND CLUB, LONDON — Another tournament favorite and top seed is out of Wimbledon. Madison Keys, the Australian Open champion and No. 6 seed, fell to a performance of craft and mastery of the grass from Laura Siegemund, the German world No. 104. Siegemund won 6-3, 6-3, to set up a fourth-round meeting with lucky loser Solana Sierra. Siegemund, a three-time Grand Slam doubles champion, bamboozled Keys into errors from all over the court, as can happen when a powerful ball striker runs into a player capable of absorbing their pace in awkward ways. But Siegemund most notably destroyed Keys' confidence on her second serve, at times flattening out returns, at times putting drop shot winners into court. The American won just one point on her second serve, hitting 19 across the match. Advertisement Siegemund's record was not much better, at just 37 percent, but the German was by far the steadier, hitting just 11 unforced errors to 31 logged for Keys, even though many of them were not 'unforced' at all, instead induced by Siegemund's court craft. The defeat was reminiscent of Keys' loss at Queen's, the Wimbledon warmup event. She fell to Tatjana Maria, another master of slice — but more extreme than Siegemund — with Maria going on to win the title. Keys is the 18th seed to exit the women's draw, and her departure leaves world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka as the only top-10 seed in the top half of the draw. Madison Keys falls to Laura Siegemund in the third round in another upset at Wimbledon

Madison Keys is the latest top-10 ranked women's singles participant to fall in the early rounds at Wimbledon. (AP Photo/Joanna Chan) Madison Keys, ranked No. 6, fell in the third round at Wimbledon after losing straight sets to Laura Siegemund, 6-3, 6-3, on Friday. No. 22 Sigemeund will advance to the round of 16 with the decisive upset. The German player established an early lead in the first frame as Keys failed to close the gap and dropped the set. The second set had a similar theme as Keys tried to climb out of a 5-3 hole for Sigemeund to shut the door and take the victory. This breaking news story will be updated.

Is Commanders' Jayden Daniels 'Cemented' as Top-10 QB?

Is Commanders' Jayden Daniels 'Cemented' as Top-10 QB? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jayden Daniels' rookie season for the Washington Commanders has been called one of the best ever, and now, as he approaches Year 2, the bar of expectation has been raised. Advertisement After a 12-5 regular season, two playoff wins and an NFC Championship Game, Daniels, to have a similar year in 2024, will need to have a lot of things go his way. But we know he's got the talent, and with the players around him, many expect the Commanders to challenge for the Super Bowl. So, Daniels was good in 2024, but what can we expect of him in 2025? When it comes to ranking the top 10 quarterbacks in football, fans are all wondering the same thing about the D.C. phenom ... And yes. Fox Sports has provided its list, and Jayden comes in at No. 9. "Daniels needed just one NFL season to break into the top 10 at his position," Fox Sports writes. "The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award and led Washington to its most wins in a regular season since 1991. He completed 69% of his passes for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns, while rushing for 891 yards and six touchdowns. But what cemented his ranking in the top 10 was his ability to lead the Commanders to the NFC Championship." Just ask C.J. Stroud, who struggled in his second NFL season, so Daniels does have it all in front of him. With wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tackle Laremy Tunsil, the two key signings this offseason, the Commanders got a whole lot better at two positions that will directly impact how Daniels performs. There's no denying that Daniels is already one of the top quarterbacks in the conference, but he has to stay there. All of this is based on his ability to back up what was an incredible rookie season, and while getting to the top is hard, staying there is even harder.
