David Beckham's gesture to Inter Miami players speaks volumes about Man Utd icon
Inter Miami star Ian Fray has revealed that club co-owner Sir David Beckham is always there for his players, regardless of their standing in the squad. Beckham made waves in 2018 when he founded the Major League Soccer side.
Since their inception, Inter Miami have built a squad that boasts several high-profile names, most prominently World Cup-winning legend Lionel Messi. He's been joined by his former Barcelona team-mates Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.
Such is Beckham's hands-on approach, he is often seen at Miami's training facility and frequently attends games. His focus isn't just on the team's household names, however.
According to Fray, Beckham makes time for everyone and even goes as far as offering an on-call service of sorts for his players - a gesture that simply says it all about the recently knighted Manchester United icon.
"Yeah, he's good," Fray told Mirror US Sports. "He's been here quite a few times and he says hi to everyone in the morning. If you want something, you can go and ask him at any time. He gives you his number so you can text him if you need anything. He's a great guy."
It's been a huge week for the 50-year-old, with the former England captain recognised for his services to sport and charity in King Charles' Birthday Honours list. Last Friday, the ex-PSG man became Sir David.
Yet the former Real Madrid winger's dedication to his club was on full display once again just hours later. He was in attendance for Miami's Club World Cup opener at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, a day on from receiving his honour from King Charles in London.
Speaking to DAZN on the day of the game, Beckham said: "'It's been an emotional week I must admit. For me and for my family. It's obviously very special. It's a huge honour, but one that has been shared with myself and my family and so, it's been emotional."
Miami have been drawn in a group with Egyptian outfit Al Ahly, Brazilian side Palmeiras, and Portugal's FC Porto at FIFA's revamped Club World Cup. Before kicking off their campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Al Ahly on Sunday, Fray expressed his belief that they can make an impact in the tournament.
"We had a really strong week of practice last week, it's been super hot here. I think we are definitely ready," the 22-year-old said. "Once we heard we were in from even last year, we were looking forward to this. Everyone looks at MLS as a lower league - we want to go in and make a statement and show that we can hang with whoever."
Miami will now come up against Porto on Thursday as they bid for their first win of the competition. The Club World Cup also features Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester City.
Enzo Maresca's team get their campaign underway on Monday evening against Los Angeles FC. Pep Guardiola's team meet Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca on Wednesday afternoon.

Zoe played Zoe Carpenter in the Channel 4 show between 2006 and 2010, making a brief return in April 2017. A writer as well as a performer, mother-of-two Zoe has also contributed to 56 episodes of the soap, which marked its 30th anniversary this year. Other past acting jobs include roles in Midsomer Murders, Crime Stories and Staff Room. According to her management company Harvey Voice's website, she has been the voice of Jet2Holidays for four years. Marcus Rashford and the Manchester United transfer boffins
The transfer boffins at Manchester United didn't have a great record last summer when it came to the club's departures. Scott McTominay was deemed not good enough for Ruben Amorim's squad, sold for around half of Manuel Ugarte's fee, and went on to win Serie A Footballer of the Year, leading Napoli to a historic Scudetto. Antony couldn't trap a beanbag in the first half of the season, registering one goal (a penalty in a 7-0 Fizzy Cup win over Barnsley in September) and no assists in the first five months of the campaign in United colours, yet went on to be one of the standout players in La Liga in the second half on loan at Real Betis, scoring nine goals, registering five assists and helping the Seville side reach a European final. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, now of West Ham, was crowned last season's Hammer of the Year for his performances at right back, and despite being named United's Under-23 Player of the Year in 2022, Álvaro Carreras departed Old Trafford for Benfica last summer for just £5m without making a first-team appearance, despite the club desperately needing a good, fit left-back. Make that make sense. This is the same Álvaro Carreras who, this summer, is now worth £43m after signing with Real Madrid to become their first-choice left back. Recent history tells us – and hopefully the transfer gurus behind each and every one of the above transfer blunders – that Rashford might not be the problem but rather, the club's seemingly unquenchable desire to be a lurching behemoth of a bin fire. Football Daily isn't an expert (in anything, really) but might suggest to Big Sir Jim and his lieutenants that falling out and ostracising the club's best young, home-grown talent probably isn't the best way to get Manchester United back on track. It feels a whole lot more likely that Rashford will have a brilliant season with Barcelona than Manchester United having a brilliant season without him. Sure, Rashford as the 2026 Ballon d'Or winner does seem like a bit of a stretch at this point, but then again, 12 months ago, we didn't expect to see McTominay crowned as the new king of the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Al Hilal withdraw from the Saudi Super Cup
July 21 (Reuters) - Al Hilal are to skip the 2025-26 Saudi Super Cup, set for next month, amid their hectic schedule. Al Hilal finished the recent Saudi Pro League season second behind champions Al-Ittihad in late May, having been knocked out of the King's Cup quarter-finals and AFC Champions League elite semis. The Riyadh-based club then headed to the United States, where they kicked off their Club World Cup campaign on June 18 against giants Real Madrid. They made it to the knockout stages, where they stunned Manchester City in the last 16 before losing to Fluminense in the quarter-finals on July 4. The Saudi Super Cup is to be held between August 19-23 in Hong Kong, with the league campaign usually getting underway in late August. Their CWC campaign and following flight complications "reduced the players' annual leave to only 24 days in the event of withdrawal, and to 21 days if the club participated in the Super Cup," with the rules granting them "a minimum of 28 days of annual leave," the club said in a statement. Al Hilal were forced to postpone their pre-season preparations, "which further increased the competitive imbalance among participating clubs," the statement ran citing a letter sent to the local soccer federation. The Saudi federation (SAFF) said, in response, they "will begin taking the necessary measures in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations through the relevant committees," without providing more details.
